to lead a range of technology projects; a manager confident of taking on responsibility, grounded in human values and conscious of the challenges of sustainable
development.
2
We will develop your skillset based on a precise framework of 40 competencies
essential for engineers, and evaluate you on them.

You will be able to choose an original course profile, enabling you to target your
talents, your ambitions and your dreams; you will gradually construct a precise
concept of your future and you will be given the resources to achieve it.
4

Here is a recap of what
you will need to apply
for visa:
The first step is to obtain a visa from the French
consulate in your country of origin. Because of your
nationality or for other reasons (if you are a resident
of the European Union, etc.) you will possibly be
exempted from a visa.
A valid passport (with a date of validity covering
the period of your stay, or covering at least 1
year of your stay)
There are two types of visas:
Administrative fees
Passport photos
• Short-stay visas (visas de court séjour) for stays
shorter than 90 days.
The letter of admission from the Ecole
des Mines de Nantes
• Long-stay visas (visas de long séjour) for stays
longer than 90 days (up to 3 months). The Student’s
visa is a long-stay visa and will allow you to stay
on the French territory during one year. After the
first year, you will have to ask for a residence
permit (in French: carte de séjour). The school will
help you with the administrative process.
Proof of resources enabling you to live in France
for the stated period (for grant holders, this
will mean a certificate stating the amount and
duration of your grant)
Proof of health insurance coverage
(depending on consulates)
Accomodation certificate
Please register at Campusfrance in your country
several months before leaving your country in order
to apply for visa. Campusfrance will provide you with
information about higher education in France and will
be the starting point for the visa process.

How to get
to the school
LUGGAGE LOST DURING THE TRANSPORT
Thanks to inform the EMNantes by a signed letter
when your luggages are lost, if you want the school
to receive them. Without your signed letter we can not
accept your luggages.
Finding your way to the student
residence from the airport
or the train station
You will have to travel by yourself in Nantes from the
airport or the train station to the “Maison Des Eleves”.
You have two solutions:
The more simple one but also the more expensive is to
take a taxi as soon as you arrive and go straight to your
student residence.
Time needed (from the airport to the “Maison Des
Eleves”): between half an hour and an hour depending
on the traffic.
Time needed (from train station to the “Maison Des
Eleves”): between 20 min and an hour depending on
the traffic.
The second solution is to use public transport.
Official
welcome
If you arrive at the airport you must take the airport
shuttle and stop at Commerce. At Commerce you have
to take the tramway line n°1 towards Beaujoire and
stop at Beaujoire, the end of the line.
A few administrative
procedures
Finally you take either bus n°72 or 76 towards Gachet,
your final stop for the school is Christian Pauc.
An official Welcome is organised with the Head of
the school, the Dean of the Graduate School and the
teaching staff.
Time needed: 2 hours. This solution is difficult if you
come with a lot of luggage.
If you arrive at the train station, take the tram line n°1
towards Beaujoire. Stop at Beaujoire and take either
the bus n°76 or 72 in direction of Gachet. Your final
stop for the school is Christian Pauc. Time needed: 1
hour.
Picking up the keys to your room
at the “Maison des Elèves”
You can only pick up the keys to your room during the
opening hours of the student residence:
Monday to Friday from 9.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and
from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m.
If you arrive too late or at the weekend you will
have to stay in a hotel. See page 28 for a list of
hotels near the train station and the airport.
Here is a note you can show to the taxi driver so that he brings you to your student residence:
«Je souhaite me rendre à la Maison Des Eleves de l’Ecole des Mines (adresse: 6 Avenue Augustin-Louis Cauchy,
Nantes). Je dois y arriver strictement pendant les horaires ouvrés de la résidence: de 9h à 11h30 ou de 14h à 16h.
Pensez-vous pouvoir m’y conduire sur ces horaires? Si ce n’est pas la cas, veuillez me conduire à l’hotel (voir p28)»*
*Translation: “I would like to go to the “Maison des Eleves”of the Ecole des Mines (address: 6 Avenue Agustin-Louis Cauchy, Nantes).
I have to arrive during the residence opening hours from 9.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. or from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. Do you think you can
drive me there in time? If not could you drive me to the hotel (see page 28)?”

Since they are trained to elaborate projects, students
are strongly encouraged to organise and take part in
leisure activities, sporting events, business ventures
and to support public initiatives.
The “Association Sportive” (AS/The sports club)
This association edits the school’s sports magazine,
and organises sporting events and competitions with
other schools, etc.
“MiND”
This association constitutes the students’ own
company. It is run by ten students from the EMNantes
and recruits volunteers to carry out projects requested
by business companies. These projects are quite varied,
ranging from the creation of web sites and databases
to translations, company visits… As a matter of fact
MiND provides good opportunities for students eager

The city
of Nantes
Geography
Nantes is situated in the West of France on the Loire
estuary and is the administrative capital city of
the Pays de la Loire region.
The city has a network of rivers, for example the Erdre
and the Sèvre nantaise.
Nantes is the 6th biggest city in France.
It takes 2 hours to go from Nantes to Paris thanks to
the TGV (high speed train) and it is 50 km from the
Atlantic ocean. In fact you can easily go to the beaches
of La Baule and Pornic by car or by train.
Climate
Nantes is characterised by a temperate oceanic
climate because of its closeness to the seacoast.
The overall average temperature is 12°C. Winters are
usually mild and rainy (on average 5°C). Summers are
hot but not in an extreme way (on average 18.5°C).
Historical and cultural inheritance
The city of Nantes is strongly marked by its historical
past and has always wished to protect and promote its
historical districts.
The castle - the Château des Ducs de Bretagne - is
the emblem of Nantes. It was built between the 15th
and the 18th centuries under King François II and his
daughter Anne de Bretagne.
The medieval districts of Decré and Bouffay in the
town centre date back to the 15th century.
Daily life
The cathedral of Nantes was built between the 15th
and 19th centuries.
The Passage Pommeray was inaugurated in 1843 and
is considered as one of the most beautiful 19th century
shopping arcades.
The Quai de la Fosse stands as a testament to the
city’s maritime past.
A dynamic cultural life
Thanks to its cinemas, concert halls, the Zenith, the
numerous festivals and other cultural events, Nantes
is reputed to be a young at heart and pleasant town
to live in.
One of the most famous cultural attractions is situated
on the Île de Nantes, a island on the river where the
company Royal de Luxe presents its Machines de l’Île,
amongst them a 12 m high wooden elephant.
