Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion
March 20, 2016
During Holy Week each year, we enter most deeply into the foundation of our
Christian faith—the mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus.
The Season of Lent ends on Thursday of Holy Week. Then the Church remembers the death and
resurrection of Jesus during the Easter Triduum. The Easter Triduum begins on Holy Thursday with
the evening Mass of the Lord's Supper, is continued through Good Friday with the celebration of the
passion of the Lord and on Holy Saturday, reaches its high point in the Easter Vigil, and concludes
with Masses on Easter Sunday. These three days are the most important time of the Church year.
Please join us for these holiest of days.
Holy Thursday: Mass of the Lord's Supper
On Holy Thursday we remember the Last Supper and that Jesus gave himself in the
Eucharist. We recall that Jesus chose his apostles to serve and lead the Church.
Remembering that Jesus washed the apostle’s feet at the Last Supper, the priest
washes the feet of members of the congregation. The evening Mass of the Lord's
Supper on Holy Thursday is a beautiful and joyful celebration. Because Holy
Thursday is a feast day of the Blessed Sacrament, there is a procession of the
Eucharist after the Mass to an altar of repose set up in the Parish Hall.
Thursday, March 24 (No morning Mass this day)
7:00pm Mass of the Lord’s Supper
Eucharistic Adoration 8:00pm-9:00pm in the Parish Hall
Good Friday of the Passion of the Lord
(No morning Mass this day)
On Good Friday we remember the death of Jesus. According to an ancient
custom, Mass is not celebrated on this day or before the Easter Vigil on Holy
Saturday. The celebration of the Lord's passion and death takes place in the
afternoon. There are three parts to the liturgy of the day: the Liturgy of the
Word; the Veneration of the Cross; and Holy Communion with Hosts
consecrated on Holy Thursday.
Friday, March 25 (No morning Mass this day)
11:00am Stations of the Cross—the 7th & 8th Graders will be at the Church to lead the Stations.

Holy Saturday Easter Vigil
On Holy Saturday the Church meditates on the suffering and death of
Jesus. Then the Church gathers to celebrate the Easter Vigil. Our
celebration of the Easter Vigil takes place at 8pm and begins with a
gathering on the Church steps around the fire.
Saturday, March 26 (No confessions, adoration or 5pm Mass this day)
8:00pm Bilingual Mass

Rev. Thomas V. Murphy was
the first pastor of St. Didacus.
To celebrate our 90th anniversary,
we are putting together a 2016 Parish Directory.
The biggest part of that project is for YOU to
have your photo taken for it! As in year’s past, we
are partnering with Lifetouch and they will be
here on sight to take photos of each parishioner or
parish family to be
included in the directory.
We’ll be getting more
information to you during
the month of April and
we’ll have photography
dates available here in the
hall in May and June.
Good Friday Collection
Next Friday has been designated
for the 2016 Collection for the
Holy Land. Your contribution
helps support Christians and
maintains shrines in the Holy Land of our Lord’s
birth, agony, death and resurrection. You are
encouraged to consider a generous gift.

Commending ourselves into God’s hands
For most of us Holy week unfolds
like many other weeks; we still
contend with work, school, preparing
meals, doing laundry, cranky folks,
the usual triumphs and setbacks.
Palm Sunday begins an extraordinary
week— a week that concentrates in a
few days the ultimate meaning of our
whole Christian life. We must slow
ourselves down and make choices so that this week
doesn’t go by without our taking the time to enter into its
meaning. We celebrate in the liturgies what we live every
day—all the dying to self that characterizes truly faithful
disciples of Jesus, all the dying to self that proclaims our
choice to live in God’s kingdom. This choice is our way of
continuing Jesus’ saving mission, our way of making
visible our ultimate desire: to live forever with God, united
with this Jesus who suffered, died and was buried. This
Jesus who was raised. Living in this kingdom is possible
when we, too, commend ourselves into God’s hands.
—Living Liturgy
On the Cover: Jesus Carrying the Cross by Liam Jones. Find
out more about this artist at www.liamjonesfineart.com.
Today, as we read the
passion of the Lord, we
cannot but realize that the
cross is a central mystery
in our faith. Suffering is
part of every person’s life,
just as it was part of
Jesus’ life. However, Jesus’ suffering led to resurrection. Through his suffering Jesus redeemed the
human race from sin. If we join Jesus in his suffering we will also join him in his victory over death.
—Breaking Open the Lectionary
Thanks to everyone who helped clean the
Church last Saturday!
Thank you to all the
groups who provided dinner on
Friday nights during Lent: the Altar
Society, the Parish Council, the
Spanish Community, the School,
and the Small Faith Groups.
Thanks, also, to the Knights of Columbus for the great
Classic Fish & Chips dinner.
Thanks to the Choir for our awesome
Taize prayer services. Thanks to
Fr. Mike, Elena Platas, Deacon Dino,
Deacon Gutierrez and Donna Allen for
leading our Lent talks and to everyone
who participated in our Stations of the
Cross. It was a blessing to walk through
our Lenten journey as a parish community!

Pray for those of our
parish and those all over
the world who will be
received into the Catholic
Church at the Easter Vigil.
Lord, we pray for those
nearing the end of the
RCIA process. Strengthen their faith. Open
their hearts to the fullness of your love.
Deepen their understanding. Set their hearts
on fire for the kingdom of God. We ask this
through Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth, and
the Life for all. Amen.
