Thon Hotels a subsidiary of The Olav Thon Group
originally started out as Rainbow Hotels in 1989.
Olav Thon our charismatic owner and driving
force of the company, had at this point seven hotels
and made a good decision to establish a
Norwegian hotel chain.
The hotels were located in the first and second
cities of Norway; Oslo and Bergen respectively, a
brilliant concept of supplying the hotel market with
high quality accommodation and a sumptuous
breakfast, without all the extras that are seldom
used in the main city centers of Norway, at
reasonable prices.
The concept was an amazing success adding
hotel after hotel each year!

In October 2005 another bold step was taken by
the group to re-brand itself.
But what name….? Why not use the name of
our illustrious owner! The decision was made and
‘Thon Hotels’ was born.
The success story continued further a field to
the European capital, Brussels. Since the 1st
January 2007, the Thon Hotels portfolio includes
airport and city centre locations with hotels and
apartments ranging from quality rooms, conference
to high elegance and luxury properties.

The Stanhope Hotel was inaugurated as the first 5-star hotel in
Belgium. After an extensive renovation and enlargement of the property
