ALL YOUR LIFE YOU ARE TOLD THE THINGS YOU
CANNOT DO.
ALL YOUR LIFE THEY WILL SAY YOU’RE NOT
GOOD ENOUGH OR STRONG
ENOUGH OR TALENTED ENOUGH, THEY’LL SAY
YOU’RE THE WRONG
HEIGHT OR THE WRONG WEIGHT OR THE
WRONG TYPE TO PLAY THIS
OR BE THIS OR ACHIEVE THIS. THEY WILL TELL
YOU NO, A THOUSAND TIMES NO
UNTIL ALL THE NO’S BECOME MEANINGLESS.
ALL YOUR LIFE THEY WILL TELL YOU NO,
QUITE FIRMLY AND VERY QUICKLY. THEY WILL
TELL YOU NO. AND
wonderful Sponsors.
Join us at the Summer games
on March 3rd, at Coral
Springs High School. Pinion
will be serving lunch to the
athletes. It is a wonderful
day to experience and see
the friendly competition and
friendship shared on and off
the fields.
Pinion will be hosting our popular St. Patty social,
March 7 at Briny’s on the Riverfront. Eat and Drink
and feel Lucky!
Once again, thank you for supporting our wonderful
cause. I look forward to seeing you at the next Pinion
Event.

YOU WILL TELL THEM YES.
NIKE
Woman of The Year
I
read this advertisement and I was touched by the
power of its message...naturally, it brought my
thoughts to the individuals we support in Pinion.
Special Olympics provide free sports training for
individuals with intellectual disabilities...and the
program and its supporters never say NO. The program
encourages these wonderful athletes to compete and
succeed both on the field and off the field in school or
the workplace and in life. The athlete’s feel proud and
inspire others to join them in their efforts to bridge the
gaps of what they can achieve.
The years that I have been a part of Pinion, have
encouraged me to learn more about people and practice
better ways to treat people~ all people. I continue to
learn and hope to encourage others to do the same.
We are all different, and it is our differences that bring
us closer together. As we continue to support Special
Olympics Broward County and The Victory Living
Programs, our society is a better place because of our
efforts.
We ended 2011 with our signature Holiday Event
“Unwrap the Holidays” at the private residence of Jim
and Carol Stein. What a wonderful holiday evening!
Thank you to Vanessa, Jacki and Valerie and all of
the dedicated committees, Board of Directors and our
1000+ Club to Benefit Cancer, Inc.

Unwrap the Holidays...
O
n Friday December 2nd, Pinion, Inc. held their
annual Holiday Event “Unwrap the Holidays”.
The chairs Vanessa Lopez-DeLalla, Silent Auction
Chair Jacki Liszak and Cuisine Chair Valerie Kowanetz
kicked off the season in style with this signature event! The
festive bash, held in the beautiful waterfront home of Jim
and Carol Stein, treated over 230 guests to an enchanted
holiday evening.
The gala started with Galaxy Productions entertaining
the guests with a 20 foot live Toy Soldier, and a crew of
holiday performers. The fabulous food was prepared by
The McFatter Culinary School, served by students and
donated by Alan Lieberman, FreshPoint. The libations
were flowing with bars which included a Mini Martini bar,
compliments of Steve and Debbie Day of Blue Martini.
Guests danced the night away to live music provided by
Tony Rao and the Topazz Band. Jon Paul Jewelers
was on hand to help fulfill the guest’s holiday wishes with
beautiful baubles and gems.
The successful silent auction raised more than $14,000
was filled with amazing gifts, from art work to fun gift
baskets, and a dinner for 12 in your private home, donated
by Capital Grille Fort Lauderdale. The evening ended
with a Holiday Raffle and two lucky winners taking home
an NCL Bahamas cruise, donated by NCL Cruise Lines
and $500 in Delta Airline tickets, compliments of Regency
Travel.
In the spirit of the holiday season, it is important to
remember that the real winners with Pinion are the athletes
of Broward County Special Olympics and residents of
Victory Living Programs. For 20 years, through successful
fundraising and the support of many faithful members
and friends, Pinion has raised over 2 million dollars since
1991...now that’s a number that says Happy Holidays to
all!

A Special Thank You
to
Jim and Carol Stein
for
Graciously Hosting our
"Unwrap the Holidays"
event at their home.
Victory Living Programs
D
uring the holidays, Pinion went shopping for the
60 residents of The Victory Living Programs
and purchased gifts from their wish lists. This event is a
heartwarming experience for all to take part in the joy of
giving back.
Dave Meschi, Manager and the staff at Wal-Mart
(Atlantic and Powerline) gave Pinion a warm welcome on
our shopping day, making shopping easy and enjoyable. We
were joined by a great number of Board of Directors and
friends for the shopping: New member, Faith Gladding
and friends Cheryl Depretoro, and Nicole Linner who
joined in the shopping day-we thank you!
On Saturday December 10, Pinion hosted the Holiday
party at The Cokesbury Methodist church, home to the
VLP day programs. Santa Claus made a special trip to
deliver each resident with a gift bag. Anne Allen chaired
this wonderful event with a great committee: Janey, Lee,
Nancy, Mirtha, Pam, Jackie, Sandy, Marion, Wendy,
Debra, Vanessa, Valerie, Clio, Jacki and others.
A special thank you to The Kowanetz family for their
yearly support, cheer and Santa wish they make come true!
We are always happy when our Pinion events are shared
by friends and children of families --thank you to the
Linner, Gladding, Lisak-May and Lieberman families
for bringing their children to share in the holiday spirit!
Our friend Ron McCann and holiday staff of Capital
Grille Fort Lauderdale catered the holiday party and gave
us all a delicious and very special lunch to share with the
friends and families of The Victory Living Programs.
Thank you to Bobbi Wigand for coordinating the event
with Anne and Pinion.
Please join us next year for this great event!
