Kelly A. Carlson: Our New Activity Director
I am so excited to be your
new Activity Director. I
realize you have all been
through many changes in
the recent past, but know I
will do everything in my
power to make the Activity
Department a happy environment that you would all
be motivated to participate
in.
I hail from right here in
Olean.
Originally from
Dunkirk, NY, I moved here
with my family in 1972.
My last job was at the Olean Times Herald where my
mother retired from after 28
years. My father worked
New York State job service
and has since retired.
I am one of six children.
Most of my siblings live
locally.
My two children are grown:
Justin lives here in Olean
and works for the City of
Olean. Janessa is my daughter. She lives in New Jersey
and is a professional dog
groomer.
Joe, my husband, works at
Team Chevrolet and is presently still serving our country as a Master Sergeant in
the United States Air Force.
In 1988 I moved to New
Jersey in order to attend interior design school, eventually finding employment as
an Interior Designer in NYC
designing showcase windows for affluent companies
and clients.
I then moved on to gain a
degree in Computer Science. With this degree I
landed a job with SONY. I
was responsible for all corporate functions. This department was relinquished
when the company was restructured. I then gained
employment with Ingersoll
Rand as the Secretary to the
VP of Accounting.
My most recent employment was in sales and marketing.
With my extensive background in customer services,
knowledge of organizing
large functions, and my genuine love of people, I knew
that I could bring my skills
and personal vibe to this
community in order to create new opportunities for all
residents.
I enjoy watching football,
spending time with my family, cooking, cleaning, and
my 3 poodles - Patton a
standard poodle, Paolo a
miniature poodle and Pinot
a toy poodle. Hopefully
very soon you will be meeting them.
Mark the Bird Man
Mark Baker of Eagle Dreams
Rehabilitation brought his two
owls, Tillow and Scarlet , for a
visit to Eden Heights. Mark explained how he acquired the
owls and also discussed the other
birds he has rescued, including
an eagle with an eight foot wingspan. He also spoke of some adventures that rescuing these bird
have brought him. Mark invited
all of us here at Eden Heights to
his sanctuary in the spring
to see his other birds and
some of the tricks that they
can do.
Presentation by Laura Lamb
Eden Heights was very thankful to have Laura Lamb, a local audiologist, come and
speak with us. Laura went
over the importance of hearing. She told us some of the
things that we may have done
to damage our hearing without
Page 2
even knowing it. After the
presentation Laura went
from resident to resident
answering questions or concerns they may might have
had. Before she left Laura
surprised everyone with
doughnuts and fresh juice.
We are looking forward to
her returning. She said the
next time she comes we
may even do some hearing
testing.
