The BSBPA and Saratoga Automobile Museum are once again partnering to present the
14th Annual “The Way We Were” Car Show on Sunday, October 9 from 9am- 4 pm on
Front Street in Ballston Spa. The rain date will be October 16. This is one of the biggest
downtown events of the year with over 500 cars on display and hundreds of spectators
strolling the car route. Front Street will be blocked off from Milton Avenue past the Old
Iron Springs to accommodate car exhibits and vendors. In addition to food and merchandise vendors, the show will again feature a “Kids Zone”, located by the Old Iron Springs,
which will feature several free children’s activities. The car show is a judged show and
several trophies will be awarded, including Best of Show, Mayor’s Choice, Best Engine,
Best Paint, Best Stock, Oldest Vehicle plus the top 3 in each of 13 categories. Judging begins at 9:00 am with trophies awarded at 3:30 pm. The event is free to spectators. Car exhibitors can pre-register by September 30 for $10 per car or $15 on the day of show. All
proceeds will benefit BSBPA community activities and the Saratoga Automobile Museum’s
mission to combat distracted driving. Dash plaques will be given to the first 400 cars registered and the first 200 cars registered will receive car show souvenirs. Pre-registration
(recommended) can be completed online at by visiting www.ballston.org and clicking on
the online registration link. A printable, mail in registration form is also available on the
website, as well as general entry information, and information and printable application for vendors. Sponsorship opportunities are also available For more information, contact the BSBPA at [email protected] or 885-2772.
Car Show Sponsorship Opportunities
As one of the BSBPA's largest fundraising events, we are looking for sponsors to help offset the cost of putting
on this event. Last year, we had over 500 registered cars and many more hundreds of spectators in the Village. We are
very fortunate to have over 50 volunteers who work on this event each year to make this a great marketing opportunity
for your business. Without our sponsors and the many volunteers, there would be no show. We are offering sponsorships at the following levels:
Checkered Flag Sponsor - $750.00
1. Large Logo on Car Show T-Shirt.
2. Logo on poster.
3. Logo on BSBPA and SAM website sponsored events page.
4. Logo on registration table sponsor sandwich board.
5. Name on major trophy and announced at award presentation.
6. 10–15 second business promo on sponsorship loop played every half hour throughout the day.
7. Logo on newspaper advertisements.
8. Prime vendor space at show, if desired.
9. Best of Show Trophy Presenter.

The Adirondack Trust Company
partnered with the leading education
technology company, EverFi, Inc., to
bring this interactive, web-based financial education program to over
1,460 students since the program’s
inception in 2014. In the 2015 – 2016
school year, the program reached
more than 900 students, through
eight different school programs.
Among the valuable topics covered
were savings, banking, investing,
renting versus owning, credit scores,
financing higher education, and consumer protection. In other news,
The Adirondack Trust Company
Community Fund continues to
accept grant applications from eligible nonprofit charities until the submission deadline of September 30,
2016, according to Mary Gavin, Chair
of the Community Fund’s Independent Advisory Committee. Grant information and application forms may
be obtained from the Adirondack
Trust Company Community Fund
website at ATCCF.org/Nonprofits.
The fund was established in 2009 to
build an endowment that acts as a
perpetual source of funding for the
broad array of nonprofit organizations
in the community, which improve the
quality of life and address issues of
common concern to the area. The
fund also seeks to foster a community
spirit of giving by providing donors
with unique and flexible ways to manage charitable donations. In 2015, the
Community Fund allocated $44,600
into 23 “Lend-a-Hand” grants averaging just under $2,000 each. These
grants were awarded to local, nonprofit organizations, supporting programs in such diverse areas as veteran’s outreach, mental health services, wildlife education, homelessness prevention, youth services, and
the arts.
BSBPA resident member Dan
Berggren is joined by Ed Lowman
for an evening of folk songs and fiddle
tunes at the historic Round Lake
Auditorium, Saturday, September 10
at 7:30 pm.
Dan's songs
celebrate an
Adirondack
heritage,
mixing old
favorites and
brand new
sing-alongs. Inspired by the stories
and songs of north country neighbors,
Dan has developed a ballad style that
explores the many dimensions of
home, hard-working people, taking
care of our planet and each other. Ed
Lowman is known throughout the

The Ballston Spa Rotary Club
will be one of the featured food vendors at the Curtis Lumber Car
Show on Sept. 11 at their Ballston
Spa Store on Rt. 67. Hundreds of
beautiful show cars and trucks will
be featured. Come visit our stand
and remember, as with any of our
fundraisers, all proceeds go directly
back to the folks that need them the
most in our own community. We are
also progressing nicely with the 9/11
Memorial. There has been an artist's
rendition of the design for the memorial and we are in the process of
setting up the necessary paperwork
to allow us to accept donations towards the project.
The Ballston Spa Cemetery Association is looking for volunteers
to help with gravestone cleaning.
Cleaning dates have been scheduled
for Tuesdays, Sept. 6 & 20 and Saturday, Sept. 17 from 9 am-noon. If
you can help out, please attend.
Wear work clothes, there will be supplies for gravestone cleaning. More
of these work days will be scheduled
this year. Community, school,
church groups and organizations are
welcome to become involved. There
are several hundred gravestones in
need of some degree of cleaning.
There is a special need for help to
clean and document the ‘Old Catholic Cemetery’ section. Most of these
gravestone are extremely old, soiled
and nearly impossible to read. Volunteers should meet near the brick
vault nearer to the Ballston Avenue
entrances. You can express your interest by going to ballstonspacemetery.org or simply stop by.

Margaret Suchow—
Suchow—The Literary Cat/The Equine Hobbyist/Math Doctor
The Literary Cat is a new business that I just started. I was just driving by and saw the for rent sign and decided now or never!
The business is a used bookstore which features the nonfiction collection of my late father, William J. Durka, otherwise known
as Bill. William Durka was appointed the Director of International Trade by President Carter and was the director of International trade for The General Electric Co as well. He was writing a book about the Israeli/Palestine solution when he died from a
fall in the shower. I felt people should enjoy and learn from Dad's extensive library. Dad's passion was books and cats and
thus the name- The Literary Cat, I have a large fiction book inventory as well.
Another part of the store features my other business, The Equine Hobbyist which sells Breyer, Peter Stone, and Collecta model
horses as well as Hansa and Steiff plush animals.
Thirdly, I am a college Math Professor and hope to have a math tutoring practice as well—Math
Math Doctor. The store is located at
52 Front Street in the Medbery Inn building. Fall hours will be Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings 5-8 or 9 depending on
business and Saturday 9-4. Tutoring is by appointment.

Be A Part of the Filming of Fireball Run in Ballston Spa!
On September 29th, the internationally broadcast/streaming series, Fireball Run, will be filming the
finale of an episode in the village. The Fireball Run follows 40 teams of contestants, driving fabulous
cars in a “life sized trivia game on the road less traveled” to underunder-discovered places and obscure historic artifacts across the US. Each season highlights a different part of the country in an 8 day, 2000 mile journey. For the
the upcoming 10th season of the series, the focus is from western New York, Pennsylvania, the Hudson Valley and Saratoga region,
ending in western Massachusetts. The entire series is filmed in real time, in front of thousands of spectators, and it’s all for
for contestant bragging rights and the cause of bringing awareness to missing and exploited children. Working with the Chamber of
Southern Saratoga County, the producers of Fireball Run have chosen Ballston Spa to be a finish line for one leg of the journey.
journey.
On Thursday, September 29, from about 2 pm to 6 pm, Low Street and Front Street will be closed to regular traffic, while the
production company films the cars and contestants arriving and their interactions with the people and places here in the village. This is where you come in—
in—we need PEOPLE! School groups, community groups, residents, fire companies—
companies—we want
everyone to turn out to show them Ballston Spa’s great community spirit. You’ll be lining the streets for the filming, meeting

the contestants, who will be going into businesses as well. It is a great opportunity to show off Ballston Spa to the world, literliterally! Please mark your calendars now, so that you can be a part of this very special event! Contact Ellen Mottola at the BSBPA
