M.N. Spear Library Fall 2013 Program Calendar Mondays at 10 am At the Library Tales and Tunes Story Hour with Julie! This weekly story time for children ages 0-5 and a caregiver is funded by the Union 2,8 Community Network for Children and the Friends of the Library. November Saturday, Nov. 2nd 6:30 pm at Town Hall Monthly Movie Night - Monster's University Entrance $1donation. Drinks, popcorn & goodies $1. Sunday, Nov 3Td 12-2 pm at Shutesbury Athletic Club Friends of the Library Annual Meeting and Library Volunteer and Patron Appreciation Brunch! Join neighbors and friends to celebrate the library, all the people who help it operate smoothly, and the wonderful patrons who visit it. Join us for a brief business meeting followed by a free brunch with homemade waffles and live music performed by the Brian Bender Jazz Duo! Tuesday, Nov. 5th ,:30 - 9:30 pm at the Library Monthly Ukulele Jam with Julie Stepanek Julie will offer lessons for beginners during the first 45 minutes, followed by a jam for all experience levels. Other instruments welcome too. Ukuleles are available to borrow during the jam. Thursday, Nov. 7th ,pm at Town Hall Who Doesn't Want to Be Happier? A workshop presented by Lori Tuominen. Come find out how you can increase the happiness, or positive well-being, in your life with some simple tools and strategies, as well as have some fun doing it ... because who doesn't want to be happier?! Friday, Nov. 8th 12pm at Town Hall Cyber-Crime Prevention for Seniors With Greg Page of Merrimack Anaiysis Group. A broad overview of topics such as phishing scams, malicious software, identity theft risks, social engineering, and more. Learn strategies for preventing and mitigating instances of cyber-crime, as well as steps to take if you believe you already are a cybercrime victim. Wednesday. Nov. 13th 7-9pm at Town Hall Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine with Rory Valentine. For beginners or those needing a refresher course. Participants must bring their own sewing machine, a simple pattern, fabric and supplies. Rory will provide basic instruction and assistance with learning how to use your sewing machine to complete a simple project. th Tuesday, Nov. 19 7-9 pm at Town Mall Needle Felting Workshop with Rory Valentine All materials will be supplied. Each participant will make one to three ornament sized gifts. Ages 14 and up, Register at the Library - 259-1213 Sponsored by the Shutesbury Education Foundation. Thursday, Nov 21st 7:30pm at the Library Drop-in Knitting group facilitated by local knitting expert Laura Walton. Learn the basics or get support for on-going projects. Ages twelve and up. Bring your own knitting supplies. Saturday, Nov. 23rd nam Town Hall Gift Making Workshop for children ages 9-14 with Rory Valentine AI materials will be provided. Each child will make 3-5 small gifts to take home. Register at the Library -259-1213 Sponsored by the Shutesbury Education Foundation. Spear Memorial Library Suggested donation $6-$10per person. Saturday, Dec. 14th 10-6 th Sunday, Dec. 15 11-6 Breakfast/Lunch/Bake Sale at the Holiday Shop at the SAC. Come out to shop for handcrafted items made by Shutesbury artist and crafters. Visit with neighbors and friends, old and new. There will be two ways to support the Friends of the Library while visiting the Holiday Shop. Have lunch or a snack or pick up some baked goods to take home and the Friends will be selling a large selection of Shutesbury items (T-shirts, sweatshirts, etc). Council on Aging Med-Ride Program The Med-Ride program is available to Shutesbury seniors age 55 and older who are unable to drive or have no means of transportation. Medical/Dental transportation is provided by a volunteer driver who will pick you up and drop you off for appointments in Franklin and Hampshire Counties. Shutesbury seniors in need of transportation should call 259-2123 and leave a message with their name, phone number and date/time/place of appointment.
