Clemmons Elementary PTA provides parents, teachers, and community members the opportunity to work together to improve our children's’ lives through programs and activities that address
health, education, and social concerns. We support the State and National PTA which allows us to pool our resources with others to best address issues that affect our children with one powerful
voice. We encourage all household members to become vested in our children’s future by joining and participating in the Clemmons Elementary School PTA.

Help us to teach all of our students to understand and practice the difference between Tattling and Telling.
● Tattling:
If it will only get another child in trouble, don’t
tell me
● Telling:
If it will get you or another child
out of trouble, tell me,
●
If it is both, I need to know
● Ground
rules: in trouble, out of trouble,
or both
Even with four to six year old children you can
start teaching the difference between telling and tattling. ―John is sucking
his thumb again‖ (Telling me is an attempt to get him in trouble; don’t tell).
―Jack isn’t sharing the slide‖ (Don’t tell but use skills I have taught you to
negotiate with him). ―John’s front tooth fell out, and his mouth is all
bloody‖ (Telling me can get him out of a mess; tell)‖. On the bus, the kids
are taunting and being mean to Sam. (Tell, telling may help get him out of
the bullying on the bus and also get some students in trouble). If this distinction is taught to children when they are young, it can pay off in the teen
years, when some serious and life-threatening things can occur that a kid
might be aware of and need to tell.

Physical Education News
We are finishing up a great first semester of Physical Education here at Clemmons
Elementary School. We have had many exciting and energizing classes while learning about many options and opportunities to stay physically active. Some of the
highlights have been baseball, football, frisbee, hula hoops, speed stacks, and winter
games. I am looking forward to another fun-filled semester! Although, during the
second half of the year we have two very big events: Jump Rope for Heart and Field
Day.
Our Jump Rope for Heart campaign which raises money to support the American
Heart Association will kick off January 10th. This is when you should start looking
for your students’ donation forms to be coming home. We will then start our actual
in class Jump Rope for Heart Program on January 31st and continue until February
11th. All forms are due February 11th. Last year our school raised $5,028 for the
American Heart Association, this year I have set our school goal at $6,000! Cardiovascular disease effects 1 of 3 Americans, therefore, all of us in someway can benefit
from the great work of the American Heart Association. So, please lets all do our
part in reaching our goal!!
Field Day 2011 has been tentatively scheduled and approved by administration.
As of now our dates will be June 7th for K-2 and June 8th for 3-5. Both sessions
will be during the morning hours of school. Please make arrangements to take part in
this special, fun, culminating event with your student. Although, please be aware
that if we have missed days due to bad weather these times could be
changed.
If you have any questions about any of these events feel free to contact Miss
Lewis anytime at: [email protected].
