BBBS’ Bowl for Kids’ Sake
Kick-Off Party a Huge Success!
Food by Benno’s …. OUTSTANDING!
Silent Auction …. SOLD OUT!
Big Brothers Big Sisters has started something BIG!
If you missed the party this year, not to worry,
this will be an annual event!
Our annual fundraiser Bowl for Kids’ Sake (BFKS) bowling event
provides the funding for operations at BBBS each year. With 2011
state and federal budget cuts to our program we pulled out all the
stops in our efforts to raise the money that provides mentors, Big
Brothers and Big Sisters, for children throughout Galveston County.
This year we launched our fist BFKS Kick-Off Party to help raise the
money. We would like to offer a special thank you to our underwriters
Vic Pierson of Moody National Bank and Betty Massey for providing
the perfect location, The Moody Mansion and outstanding food from
Benno’s who prepared a buffet that was out of this world! Generous
supporters and donors including businesses and individuals from all
across Galveston County made the Silent Auction a huge success!
BBBS Executive Director Cindy Schulz with
Darrell John of DLJ Studios
(See special Thank Yous on page 2)
Special thanks to the Fund Development Committee led by CoChairs Janice Pierson and Karen Owen and their amazing committee:
Harriet Dues, Pamela Gabriel, Tami Alsobrooks, Susan Broll, and Suzanne Radcliffe. Special thanks also to our Master of Ceremonies
extraordinaire, Bob Senter, “the Voice and Doug Johnson look-a-like,”
and to our GCBBBS President, Susan Broll, for her inspiring words.
Mentoring is a crucial component to raising children. Every child
deserves and can benefit from having a positive role model and the
one-to-one attention and guidance provided in a mentoring relationship. For that reason, BBBS continues to leave no stone unturned
when it comes to raising the money and finding the mentors, especially
Big Brothers. Some boys wait a year or more for a Big Brother in our
program.
As a non-profit 501(c)3, we are responsible for raising 100% of our
annual operating budget. Without Bowl for Kids’ Sake, Big Brothers
Big Sisters would not have a presence here in Galveston County.

We would also like to thank AMF Star Lanes, Texas City for the
wonderful hospitality and for hosting our 2011 event again this year. Big
Brothers Big Sisters is a 501(c)(3) organization and relies solely on
grants and contributions for our day-to-day operations. BFKS is our
largest source of agency funds. The continued community support of
this event helps us to secure a brighter future for hundreds of at-risk
kids and for that we are most thankful.
Anyone Can Do It...Just get Involved!
By Barbara Legate ~ 1st Place Individual Fundraiser
I became interested in Big Brothers Big Sisters
many years ago when a friend asked if I would
bowl with her in the Bowl for Kids’ Sake
(BFKS )fundraising event. I started with my
family and friends and then started asking everyone I knew if they would sponsor me for the
event. I didn’t realize how easy it was to raise
Barbara Legate with husband Don
money!
Most everyone I asked agreed to sponTop Fundraising Individual
sor me at some level.
The first year I bowled, our team was the #1 fundraising team and we received a big trophy; which I proudly displayed in our house. For at least another
10 years I bowled on the #1 fundraising team. I no longer bowl in the event but
continue to raise money each year for BBBS with my husband at my side who
supports me every step of the way. The trophy and prizes are nice but the
“BIG” deal is thinking about the children we help with the funds raised through
BFKS each year. I love raising money for Gulf Coast Big Brothers Big Sisters and
know how much they appreciate all fundraising efforts. I look forward to BFKS
each year and to raising money for this wonderful organization. I hope that my
contributions to the organization will continue to be valuable in their own way.

The Following Memorial & Honorary Contributions
were made to Gulf Coast BBBS
“My Little Sister Anna, is a
natural ‘little surfer girl’. She is
very athletic and outgoing. She
brings a spirit of warmth and
joy to anyone she comes into
contact with.
We both had a great time at
the Mauli Ola Surf Event for
Children with Cystic Fibrosis in
August. She was in her element
surfing with a pro-surfer, Morgan Faulkner.”
Big Sister Melissa Paschenko
