FROM THE PASTOR
We rejoice in the pastoral visit of Pope Francis to Brazil
during July. The primary purpose of his visit was to attend
World Youth Day (WYD) in Rio de Janeiro. Pope Francis
asked the WYD pilgrims “Where does Jesus send us?” He
encouraged them “There are no borders, no limits: He
sends us to everyone.” Pope Francis explained that Jesus
did not tell his disciples to share the Gospel “if you would
like to, if you have the time”. Instead, he commanded
them to proclaim the Good News to the world.
Pope
Francis told the young people that evangelizing requires a
personal witness of love for God and love for others,
especially the weak, the poor and the defenseless. The
pope did not mince words with his young audience, telling
them: “Evangelizing means bearing personal witness to
the love of God, it is overcoming our selfishness, it is
serving by bending down to wash the feet of our brethren,
as Jesus did.”
Pope Francis said he knows how daunting it can be to
recognize that each Christian bears personal responsibility
for sharing the Gospel with his or her actions and words,
but Jesus told the first disciples and tells disciples today,
“Be not afraid.” We are all pilgrims on this journey of faith.
Listen to our shepherd who reaches out to all. Let us be
renewed in the charge of our Baptism and Confirmation to
proclaim the Good News in Word, Charity and in the Body
of Christ.
Fr. Robert McDermott
OUR NEW PARISH OF ST. JOHN FISHER
TRANSITION INFORMATION
Merger of Holy Saviour, Immaculate Conception and
St. John Fisher Parishes
WORSHIP SITES
Holy Saviour Church and Immaculate Conception
Church are worship site churches for Saint John Fisher
Parish. A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday,
July 23 at Immaculate Conception Church and a
Nuptial Mass on Saturday, August 3 at Holy Saviour
Church. Fr. Amalfitano was a concelebrant for the
funeral at Immaculate Conception. The parish church
is to be the normal site for the celebration of the
Sacraments.
Funerals and devotions may be
celebrated in a worship site church. Weddings that are
already scheduled for worship site churches may take
place as planned. Going forward, weddings should be
scheduled only for the parish church, unless permission
is obtained from the chancery. Baptism, Confirmation
and the Easter Triduum are to be celebrated only in the
parish church. The Most Blessed Sacrament must be
reserved in the parish church. If the pastor of the new
parish in consultation with his Parish Councils would
determine that providing Sunday Mass in a Worship
Site for a short period to help parishioners to make the
transition to one worshiping community in the parish
church, Sunday Mass may be offered in the Worship
Sites during the first year of transition. Every effort
must be made to prepare the parishioners to celebrate
every Sunday Liturgy in the Parish Church.

PRAYER FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM: O God, our
Creator, through the power and working of your Holy Spirit,
you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world,
bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel to
every corner of society. We ask you to bless us in our
vigilance for the gift of religious liberty. Give us the
strength of mind and heart to readily defend our freedoms
when they are threatened; give us the courage in making
our voices heard on behalf of the rights of your church and
the freedom of conscience of all people of faith. Grant, we
pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united voice to all
your sons and daughters, gathered in your Church in this
decisive hour in the history of our nation, so that, with
every trial withstood and every danger overcome – for the
sake of our children, our grandchildren, and all who come
after us – this great land will always be “one nation, under
God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” We ask
this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
THINK ABOUT THIS: God Himself doesn’t propose to
judge a man until he is dead. So why should you?
