Joined The Radiochemical Centre in 1972. I was placed in the
Pharmaceutical Department where I led a production team producing
radiolabelled vitamin B12. Later I was involved in setting up the first
R&D Molecular Biology Group in about 1979. This evolved into a more
general Life Sciences R&D group and evolved with the company in
Amersham International, In the early 90s I joined the Commercial Group
within Amersham Life Sciences and had varied jobs as product manager,
business development manager and other marketing roles. In the mid
90s I rejoined R&D and in time became part of Amersham Pharmacia.
I retired in 2000 and have been very content doing a little consulting,
gardening etc.

My time at Amersham started when it was called The Radiochemical
Centre in the late 1960s. After having a break to have children
I returned and continued until it became Amersham International
and joined the excitement of buying shares in the newly launched
company.
I always worked in the development of in vitro medical diagnostic test
development and saw the move from the radioactive label originally
used to the chemi-luminescent system which saw us seeking
partnership with Kodak. This also saw us being moved to Pollards
Wood and eventually being sold off to Kodak who then sold us to
J&J when OCD was created. We all loved our time at Pollards Wood
and have great memories of the parties we held in the House and
grounds. By the end of my time there, I had moved into the Research
Group and enjoyed liaising with the university research teams in
various places. I was there to the end of OCDs occupation of Pollards
Wood when a large number of us were made redundant when the
R&D was transferred to the US.
At this point I took early retirement and have since enjoyed becoming
a grandparent, a great joy to my husband Derek and I. We have also
indulged our passion for travel and continue to try and explore as
much of the world as we can afford and have the energy for.

not a scientist after all – I have just finished my welsh history Masters

The first Christmas at PW in the Manor House was a unique and
magical time. Canapés in reception complete with Father Christmas
(Peter Sykes), greeting all with a welcome drink before sitting down to
Christmas lunch in the dining room. This was followed by showing an
amazingly funny and inventive ‘Pollywood’ movie made by and starring
quite a few of the staff. A perfect end to a really memorable day. I left

I would have been great to have attended this reunion, but as

However, I will keep the date on my calendar should something change.
Please say “hello” to everyone! Best regards, Andy.
Anne Jones
Would have loved to go but the date does not work for me, sorry!
Bill Castell
I was delighted to learn of the Amersham reunion at Latimer. If I had
been in the UK I would have attended like a shot. As it happens I
am visiting Dr Avijit Lahiri in Cyprus on a trip that has been planned
for over a year. Dr Lahiri was responsible for organising the Myoview
trials which gained us successful registration in Japan and Europe in
1994 and in the USA in 1996. Amersham has a lot to thank Dr Lahiri
for and I am delighted that he and I continue as good friends as well
as him being my personal expert cardiologist! Whomever decides to
hold another Amersham reunion may I suggest we have a date at least
a year in advance. I look forward to receiving reports on the success
of the meeting and I am delighted that some of our long term R&D
investments are starting to shine within GE Healthcare.
David Fernie
As much as I’d love to be there and meet with some old colleagues,
I regret that I have a prior engagement here in sunny Wales. However,
I appreciate the mail and I hope that you have a truly great evening.

I’m sure you will have a great reunion anyway
