Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Are you, or do you know anyone, who has not
yet been baptized or was baptized in another
Christian faith? Ever wondered why Catholics
bless themselves with the sign of the cross,
what they believe about communion, what’s up
with all those saints and statues, and rosaries,
and standing, sitting and kneeling? Why does
Mary seem so important? Well, why not come
and see and come and learn?
This year’s RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) Program begins on Thursday,
September 8. There’s no cost, no obligation, no
commitment necessary. In a series of friendly,
informative and spiritually exciting classes we
will explore the major things Catholics believe
and why. We will learn more about the Mass
and what is happening and why. Learn about
prayer, scripture, sacraments and Church history, and much more.
Are you Catholic and interested in learning
more about your faith? Would you be willing
to be part of this program to be part of a faith
community willing to journey with and support
those interested in learning more about our
faith? Now may be the moment that God is
calling you to be part of an exciting ministry.
So, if you are currently a non-Catholic
wanting to learn more about Catholicism, or
a Catholic willing to be part of an exciting
ministry, please call Sandy Dodson at (512)
213-4554 or Deacon John Kerrigan at (214)
886-8239. You may also email Deacon John
at [email protected].
For those wanting to learn more about the
Catholic faith RCIA Classes begin Thursday,
September 8. See the bulletin for more information.
God may be calling you. Listen, pray and
come and see….

Jubilee Year of Mercy
September 4, 2016
Twenty-third Sunday
in Ordinary Time
“If anyone comes to me without hating... father and mother,
wife and children, brothers
and sisters, and even his [or
her] own life” (Luke 14:26).
Hating? Can anyone imagine a less appropriate Gospel for the Jubilee Year of Mercy?
But scholars call this Semitic hyperbole. Jesus exaggerates to jolt us into confronting
life-changing challenges. Faced with conflicting loyalties, disciples must reorder priorities, even relationships, to give Jesus and the
gospel’s demands first place. Today’s second
reading presents a real-life example. Paul
challenges his wealthy convert, Philemon, to
welcome back Philemon’s runaway slave, Onesimus, whom Paul has baptized in prison. Not
only with unconditional forgiveness but with a
counter-cultural, world-shattering change of
status—as an equal. No, even more—a beloved brother in Christ. What in my life does
the Jubilee Year of Mercy challenge me to
“hate”—meaning reform, redo, even utterly
revamp—so I can give everyone, no conditions, no exceptions, shockingly Christ-like
love?
Año Jubilar de la
Misericordia
4 de septiembre de 2016
Vigésimo Tercer Domingo del
Tiempo Ordinario

I-35 Corridor Project
Santa Cruz Parish along with other churches in the area of the I-35 Corridor between San Antonio and Austin are participating in a project to better understand
the issues that the families of our communities are experiencing in their daily lives.
We have all witnessed the rapid changes that have taken place in this region over
the past 20 years, changes that have created new pressures that affect our families.
This project will train people of our parish to go into our community and engage all
families around the challenges that they face: issues such as the dramatic growth
of our communities, increased juvenile delinquency, issues that affect access to
quality education and affordable health care, among others. Those who participate
in the project will be trained to organize the people of the community to work
together as neighbors through the church to identify these issues, develop effective
solutions and work with public officials to address them. This project has the full
support of Bishop Vazquez and will be similar to Austin Interfaith in Austin and
Communities Organized for Public Service in San Antonio. Ramon Duran is the
organizer who is working with Father and other pastors in the region. Participating churches are Catholic, Methodist, Lutheran, Baptist, and Unitarian in Buda,
Kyle, San Marcos, New Braunfels, and Seguin. We have held four information
sessions and will schedule two more to give everyone a chance to attend. These
will be held September 6 (English) and September 7 (Spanish). Both will be held
in Room 119 in the Education Building at 7:00 PM. For more information, call
Ramon Duran 210-260-2175.
Super Bingo that was scheduled
for Sunday, September 11, 2016
has been cancelled.
Re-scheduled date to be announced.
We hope our players will enjoy

incluyen Católicos, Metodistas, Luteranas, Bautistas, y Unitarias.
Duran 210-260-2175.

SANTA CRUZ CATHOLIC SCHOOL/ESCUELA CATOLICA
News from the Principal’s Desk
Noticias del Escritorio de la Directora
Our Holy Cross Festival committee is busy finishing last minute
preparations as the big weekend fast approaches. We are excited
that this festival looks to be even bigger than last year’s. Now, all
we need to do is pray for good weather! Please get out and sell
those raffle tickets!!
Last Friday, we had our annual Back-to-School Family Dance.
We raised over $1,300 for our Athletics department and over $400
for the Cardinal Club! Over 110 families had a great time dancing
the night away!
The school enrollment is up this year with 270 students in grades
PK-3 through 8th grade. It was good to hear Bishop Joe Vasquez refer
to our school as one of the largest in the Austin Diocese. We still
have room in a few classes and will continue to enroll new students.
Have a blessed week.
inscribiendo a nuevos estudiante. Que tengan una semana bendecida.
