PRAY FOR THOSE CELEBRATING THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY Krzysztof “Chris” Balon & Marissa Ann Krawczyk on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. Our Lady of the Wayside 3 Arlington Heights, Illinois A CLOSER LOOK Our Lady of the Wayside Ministry Fair Special Needs Ministry The Special Needs Ministry identifies the needs of parishioners with special needs and investigates the ways and means to meet those needs. In the past the assessable door at the portico was installed. About six years ago a railing was installed to allow parishioners better access to the altar. Signage has been installed near the outside entrances to indicate the assessable entrance. Signage has been added to support “Don’t park on Park”, allowing senior citizens and parishioners with limited mobility easier access to the church. Members of the Knights of Columbus and Special Needs Committee greet and assist parishioners at the portico before 5 p.m. and 11:30 a.m. Masses. Watch for more exciting additions in the furture! Please visit our booth in the back of the church this weekend. Elizabeth Ministry The Elizabeth Ministry is an international movement designed to support women and their families during the joys, challenges and sorrows of the childbearing years and beyond. The areas include, but are not limited to: pregnancy, birth, miscarriage, regretted abortions, infant or child death, crisis or special needs, adoption, fertility and infertility. To contact a minister, please complete a card from the banner in the back of church or contact the Elizabeth Ministry Coordinator at [email protected]. Please visit our booth in the back of church after Mass this weekend! MAY ROSARY TO HONOR MARY As we have been doing for the past few years, during the month of May we will be saying a decade of the rosary after communion at every weekend mass. We will begin the weekend of May 7th and 8th. This devotion dedicated to our patroness Mary, only adds a few minutes to each Mass and is a wonderful way to remember and reinforce our connection to our Blessed Mother in this month devoted to her honor. Each weekend will focus on a different set of the mysteries of the rosary – the Joyful Mysteries, the Sorrowful Mysteries, the Glorious Mysteries, and the Luminous Mysteries. The person leading the decade for each mass will introduce the mystery, read a few lines of a meditation on the mystery, and then lead the congregation in an Our Father, ten Hail Marys, a Glory Be, and the “O my Jesus…” prayer: “O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of hell, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy.” If you are interested in leading a decade of the rosary at one of our weekend Masses in May, please contact Mandy Dillon at [email protected]. BECOME Jesus invites us not only to receive God’s mercy, but also to become God’s mercy in this world. What we receive from God, we give to others. The whole Christian life is giving from the gifts we have received. “Be merciful just as your Father is merciful.” (Luke 6:36) The ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO in partnership with LOYOLA PRESS. When people watch us, do they know that we are the disciples of Jesus? As Christians, we are called to do more than love the Lord. We are called to be his witnesses in the world by loving others as well. In today's Gospel reading, he gave us a new commandment, "As I have loved you, so you also should love one another." Anyone, everyone, should be able to look at us and see this love in action. If we are not witnesses to this love, then we are falling short of our mission. So, how did Jesus love us? Selflessly. His love was never motivated by personal gain. On the contrary, he often suffered for us, and not just on the cross. He faced rejection and animosity for loving those who were considered "unlovable" in his culture. He lived a life of poverty and simplicity, never focused on amassing things for himself, but always willing to give of himself. This is the love we are called to imitate.
