OPENING 16 JUNE
Director, Ewen Coleman’s
expert management of the numerous
vignettes and excerpts of life in
England during the war, and on the
battle front in places like the Somme
and Passchendaele, has captured the
highs and lows of that time.
Musical director, Anne Meggett
has brought to life the music of the
war era with the spirit and the
undaunted joy de vivre, this
production demands.
Lively and exuberant, the show
also has many poignant moments and
time for reflection as it shows the
futility and hopelessness of a war
where so many young men lost their
lives and the lives of many more were
changed forever.
With ANZAC Day still fresh in
our minds, why not take the
opportunity to reminisce, remember
or explore the experiences and
actions of our ancestors. Get a group
together and book on our 24-hour
answerphone, for an entertaining
evening of singing, dancing and
stories.

Well, we are in full rehearsal for "Oh What a Lovely War.” The amount of work going into
this production is huge with some of our team showing their multi tasking skills. It's
amazing to be able to meet new people and work with our dedicated theatre members.
Once the show is over the one thing I would like to do as President is to reintroduce some
play readings and a couple of mix and mingle, fun events. The committee has been talking
about this so some ideas are afoot. The main focus now is to get bums on seats for the show,
so please encourage your friend and work mates to come along.

La Casa Azul – Inspired by the Writings of Frida Kahlo invites you to experience not only Frida
Kahlo’s world, but also her unique way of seeing the world.
Originally directed by Robert Lepage (Ex Machina), director Lyndee-Jane Rutherford and
designer Ian Harman (Midsummer, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Ache) put their spin on this
exquisite piece of theatre, inspired by Kahlo’s Intimate Diary. Historical events are overlaid with
her paintings. Documentary texts are used alongside her most personal diary entries. Images
flourish where words alone cannot convey the sheer strangeness and intensity of her life.
La Casa Azul (The Blue House) is Kahlo’s birthplace in Mexico, where she lived with husband
artist Diego Rivera and where she died in 1954.
Duration: 21 - 25 June 2016
Price: $46 - $25

The History Boys is largely set in an English grammar school in the early-1980s. It is a multi-themed
play about theories of education, issues of adolescence, issues of adults and of course history.
It concerns a class of bright boys (aged 18 to 19) who are sitting Oxbridge entrance exams. The
boys have a range of abilities and personalities, from the high-spirited to the meek and thoughtful.
No pupil has got into Oxford or Cambridge from the school in recent history but the ambitious
headmaster is keen for this to change. There are three teachers tasked with getting the boys through
the process and they all have vastly different takes on education methods and also the meaning and
significance of history.
The play manages to be a lovely mixture of drama, comedy and a little sadness.
