Danieli is the sole supplier of technological equipment
for this state-of-the-art 2.4-Mtpy minimill complex,
that includes an electric arc furnace, a ladle furnace,
a vacuum degasser, a thin slab caster, a hot strip mill,
a continuous pickling line, a cold rolling mill,
a hot dip galvanizing line, and a color coating line.

PROJECT MILESTONES / GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY
On March 15th, 2008, MMK-Atakas,
a joint venture between Russian
Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK)
and Turkish Atakas, officially
inaugurated the site of the new
2.4-Mtpy steel complex.
According to the contract signed
between MMK Atakas A.S. and Danieli,
the latter is the main contractor
for the supply of technological
equipment and engineering,
as well as supervision of installation
and training of personnel for both
production sites in Iskenderun
and Istanbul.
Amongst the numerous authorities
that attended the event, were
Mr. Redgep Atakas, Chief Executive
Atakas Group, Turkey;
Mr. Viktor Filippovich Rashnikov,
CEO and major shareholder
of MMK, Russia; Mr. Nazim Ekren,
Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey;
Mr. Gianpietro Benedetti,
President and CEO, Danieli;
Mr. Ivanovskiy Vladimir Evgenievich,
Russian Ambassador;
Mr. L. Levante, Italian Consul.
The groundbreaking ceremony
was opened by Mr. Atakas,
who addressed a warm welcome
to all authorities and distinguished
guests. He emphasized that,
with this project, MMK-Atakas
is the largest private investor
in Turkey with an equal Turkey
and Russian capital.
PROJECT MILESTONES / OFFICIAL STARTUP
Thanks to close cooperation between the Danieli
and MMK-Atakas teams, an extraordinary job
was successfully accomplished with the production
of first coils processed on the continuous pickling line
and rolled on the two-stand cold reversing mill
in October 2010. Construction of the hot part
of the complex (meltshop, Thin Slab Caster and hot
strip mill) progresses according to schedule.
On January 15, 2010, MMK Atakas has produced
its first color-coated coil at its new works in Iskenderun.
Flat Products Complex Milestones
On April 17, 2010, MMK Atakas successfully produced
the first galvanized coil on the new hot dip galvanizing
line supplied by Danieli.

PROJECT MILESTONES / OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY
On March 9 2011, MMK Atakas staged the Opening
Ceremony of the new 2.4-Mt Electric Arc Furnace
steel complex.
Attending the solemn ceremony was prime minister
of the Turkish Republic, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan;
the chairman of board of directors of MMK
Mr. Victor Filippovich Rashnikov; the head of Atakas
Mr. Recep Atakas; Mr. Gianpietro Benedetti,
the President and CEO of Danieli; Mr. Vladimir
Evgenievich Ivanovskiy, Russian Ambassador;
Mr Igor Di Bernardini, Italian Consul, together with
all authorities and distinguished guests.
