Mexican authorities require that you hold a valid passport while in Mexico (no Sentri or Global Entry
cards). U.S. citizens need to present either a passport, passport card, or Sentri/Global
Entry card when returning to the U.S..
Directions to Building Site in Tijuana, Mexico:
Take either I-5 or I-805 South to the 905 FREEWAY EAST
towards Otay Mesa and the USA/Mexico Border. When you cross
the Border, you will go through an area that says ‘Nada qué
declarar’ (Nothing to Declare). Depending on whether you
get a green light or red light, proceed forward.
If you get the green light, proceed straight ahead.
If you get a red light, pull over to the right-hand side
for inspection, and the officials will inspect your car. You
can claim $50 of personal belongings.
Assuming you have no problems, continue on as follows.
Once you have crossed the Border, go straight
over the bridge and continue straight at the
arches. At the end of the block at the signal light
stay to the left and turn left onto the Industrial
boulevard. This intersection is about a mile from
the border.
Note: sometimes this intersection is blocked off
by the police for traffic flow purposes. If blocked,
turn right, then the first left, and left at the light.
Once on the Industrial boulevard, continue
straight towards the "Tecate Cuota 2” (Toll
Road). You’ll be on this boulevard for about
5.5 miles.
After a short distance on the boulevard, there will
be a split in the road down to the right – remain
in the left lanes and pass over the bridge –
continue toward "Tecate Cuota Toll Road’.
Continue through the industrial area.
Once you have passed through the industrial area
and the twin towers monument, the road will
become "Tecate Cuota Highway
2." Proceed straight as the next exit will be a few
miles ahead.
Drive approx. 2 miles and turn right at the "M.
Matamoros/ Rosarito" exit. This is the last exit before
entering the Tecate Cuota Toll Road.
Drive through the hills, industrial area and
shopping centers for about 7 miles. You’ll pass a
Home Depot and Walmart on the right as you drive along this
road. You’ll arrive at an on-ramp for the “Tecate Libre”
(free) highway. Drive under the freeway overpass that
says, “Termina Zona Urbana.” Go under the sign and
towards “Tecate Libre/Mexicali”. You will pass a
sculpture, then be facing southeast toward Tecate.
Continue straight.
On the left side of the road you will see a large housing
development, El Refugio. Continue east/straight for
about 3 miles until you see a sign crossing the road.
Just past the sign is a traffic signal, directly across
from a Pemex station and Ley department store.
TURN LEFT at the traffic signal.
Continue straight on the paved road for about 1.5
miles - you will see a greenish-blue church building
on the left side of the road as a landmark.
Keep going straight for about 0.3 miles after you cross
over some railroad tracks.
When you get to a “T”. Make a right turn and remain on
the paved road.
In about 1-1/4 miles, you will see this small grocery store on
your right.
Take the first right directly after the store along a dirt
road that leads to some railroad tracks.
Proceed directly across the tracks.
Immediately after the tracks, straight ahead, you’ll see a
house with a red, metal gate. The gate will be open.
Pass through the gate to the back of the house, then
immediately turn right along a dirt road where you’ll see the
colonia of Fuentes del Valle in the distance.
Continue along this dirt road, then left in front
of the colonia, and right into Fuentes del Valle.
Directional signs will be posted. Follow
the site-map to you house location.
Return to the States
Follow the directions in reverse order. At the
paved road turn left, and go about 1-1/4 mile
to a stop sign. Turn left and go approx. 1.5
miles to the main road (Hwy 2 Libre) and turn
right across from the PEMEX station. Continue
on this road for about 3 miles. Bear right,
heading
back
towards the border at
overpass/traffic signal that says “Garita Otay"
exit.
Go straight about 7 miles – bear right at
"Tijuana/San Diego" exit. This road will
swing around and head back towards Otay Mesa
industrial area.
Go about 5.5 miles into the industrial area
until you reach the park on the right. Continue
straight ahead about 1 mile, following the
signs for Garita de Otay. Just past the
McDonalds, turn right at "Garita De
Otay/Vehiculos Ligeros" intersection. Continue
straight, up over the bridge until you reach the Otay
Border crossing lines.
For those with a SENTRI pass, turn right at the
park, following the sign towards Bella Artes
boulevard. Turn left onto Bella Artes (approx. 1/2
mile) and watch for the border entry on the right.
The SENTRI lane is in the middle.
