The earliest evidence of the existence of the Denver Chapter of the
University of Nebraska Alumni Association (now known as Coloradans
for Nebraska) is a listing of Edmund ). Churchill, "85, as president in
1913.
There is no one who can tell us today what the organization was like
in those early years. But since the early 1950s Co4NU has participated
in many functions like a Founders' Day dinner in February or March,
summer family picnics, a party the night before the Colorado-Nebraska
game every other year when it was played in Boulder, Alumni Night at
1960s, biennial migrations to Lincoln aboard the Denver Zepher were
the Rockies, and special performances of the Scarlet and Cream. In the
planned for the Colorado-Nebraska game.
Beginning in 1989 Co4NU began funding scholarships for graduates of
a Colorado High school wishing to attend the University of Nebraska.
Money raised through various raffles and from membership
contributions has helped CFN to provide two $1,000 scholarships to
incoming freshmen and to create an endowment that funds a SI,000
junior and SI,000 Senior scholarship. Over the years additional
scholarships have been provided with Co4NU selecting 25 students to
receive $1500 for the 2012 / 2013 school year as well as the endowed
upperclassman scholarship. For the 2013 / 2014 school year, endowed
Scholarship program, for Freshman, with the Chancellor providing
scholarships in the amount of 512,000 were part of the Legends
matching $1000 scholarships and 15 additional $1500 scholarships
provided directly by Co4NU for Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors.
