1. Concept of slewing bearing
1) Definition
Slewing bearing is a large bearing with special configuration, which can endure biggish multiply load, such as axial & radial load,
overturning moment, etc.
2) Structure
Slewing bearing is composed of outer ring (teeth or non-teeth), rolling element (steel ball, cylindrical roller, tapered roller), cage, inner
ring (teeth or non-teeth) and seals (the one with sealed structure).
3) Classification
Slewing bearing can be classified by different structure: four point contact ball slewing bearing; double – row different diameter ball
slewing bearing; cross roller slewing bearing; three – row roller slewing bearing, etc.Slewing bearing also can be classified by teeth:
slewing bearing with non-teeth, slewing bearing with external teeth, slewing bearing with internal teeth.
2. Function and characteristic of slewing bearing
2.1 Function
Slewing bearing itself is featured in compact structure, convenient lead to slew, easy for installation & maintenance, which is widely
used as slewing set in the fields of heavy machine, slewing platform in the steelworks, excavator grab, material taking & stacking set,
material traveler, harbor machine, missile launching cage, CT set, etc.
2.2 Characteristic
1) Four point contact ball slewing bearing can take more dynamic load, and suitable for the application with speed.
2) Cross roller slewing bearing can take more static load, it’s pre-interference is better for more support rigidity and slewing precision.
3) Three – row roller slewing bearing is a high load capacity slewing set, different direct raceway and rollers can take load from different
side. So when have the same load, it can be smaller size that can make the application compact.
3. Choosing type
How to choose the slewing bearing type to suit the application best?
Most of the companies chooses slewing bearing depends on the load chart.
Most of slewing bearings work under eccentric load, take axial load (Fa), radial load (Fr) and overturning moment (M). So before
choosing a suitable bearing need to have calculation for the bearing using condition, need to calculate the load for dynamic and static
condition. Calculating the service life according to the safety factor of different application. Then may choose the suitable bearing.
2797/2680K slewing bearing load curve
Curve 1 means when material is 42CrMo, it is the allowable static load curve for ball bearing with allowable contact stress 3850Mpa, or
roller bearing with allowable contact stress 2700 Mpa.
Curve 2 means rated dynamic load curve when bearing has whole turning with reliability 90%, life time 0.03×106, under condition of
not high radial load, low speed of turning and not high working precision.
Curve 3 means when material is 50Mn, it is the allowable static load curve for the ball bearing with allowable contact stress 3400Mpa,
or roller bearing with allowable contact stress 2100Mpa.
The maximum load curve of the bolt is when its joint length is five times long as the bolt diameter, and the preliminary stress is 10% of the
yield strength of the material.
4. Slewing bearing’s materials & technique required
4.1 Main materials
1) Rings
1.1) Materials:
Steel 45#, 50Mn (carbon structural steel), 42CrMo (alloy structural steel). 50Mn and 42CrMo are usually used. Their chemical
component and mechanics capability are showed in the form below.

Normalizing hardness of the rings is 187HB-241HB, quench & temper hardness is 229HB-269HB, hardness of the raceway after
quenching is 55HRC-62HRC.

DS is the harden depth of raceway surface when hardness≥48HRC.
1.5) Quenching soft belt of the raceway
I. Width of soft belt: to the rings without filling hole, when rolling element diameter Dw≤25mm, width of soft belt should be less than
2Dw; when Dw>25mm,width of soft belt should be less than 50mm. As to the rings with filling hole, width of soft belt should be less
than filling hole diameter plus 35mm.
II. Marking of soft belt: soft belt on the ring with filling hole should be the place of taper pin(filling hole) and don't need to be marked,
on other rings should be set to non-installation part with the visible permanent mark “S”. As to the soft belt of double half rings, except
setting mark, the two soft belt should be set between 180°or in one point.
2) Rolling element: it is made of chrome steel GCr15 or GCr15SiMn.
I. Steel ball should accord with the standard of GB/T308-2002, roller should accord with the standard of GB/4661-2002.
II. Rolling element tolerance should be chosen based on slewing bearing tolerance grade, which should accord with form3

Material selection of slewing bearings: mainly based on working condition, size, capability required
Material selection of rolling element: GCr15SiMn is selected for larger size rolling element, GCr15 is selected for smaller size rolling
element.
Material selection of rings: steel 45# is for those which are low slewing speed, low precision & capability required. 50mn is for those
which are higher precision & capability required, 42CrMo is for those which are higher precision & capability, higher intensity or larger
size required.
5. Clearance of slewing bearings
The clearance of slewing bearings is mainly used to equalize the manufacture & setting errors, which is caused by slewing bearing’s
support part and application’s assembling part, in order to ensure the bearings right operation. It is listed in Form 5 ----- 8 with the data of
clearance, which is based on slewing bearing’s structure, tolerance grade, and rolling element’s diameter.
We also can supply slewing bearing with preload, 0 even minus clearance.

6. Lubrication & seal of slewing bearings
It is necessary measure to lubricate & seal bearings effectively and sufficiently for ensuring bearings’ safety operation and avoiding early
abnormal damage.
6.1 Lubrication of bearings
Slewing bearings are usually operating in high-load & low-speed working condition, it is recommended to fill lubricate grease to do a
good job. There are kinds of lubricate grease widely used, such as calcic lubricate grease, lithium lubricate grease, aluminum lubricate
grease, high temperature lubricate grease, etc. Customer could choose the most suitable lubricate grease based on actual condition. It is
listed with recommended lubricate grease types in form 7.
6.2 Seal of slewing bearings
The seal of slewing bearings is used for avoid leakage of filled lubricate grease on one side, and the other side is to avoid in-leakage of
outer dust, impurity and water which can cause abnormal operation of slewing bearing. As slewing bearing is operating in the condition
of high-load & low-speed, there are two seal structures usually used, rubber and labyrinth. Rubber is widely used because of simple
structure, little space occupied, good seal capability. But it will aging easily at high temperature and lose seal capability. So it is
recommended to use labyrinth when in the high temperature condition.

7. Operating temperatures
Standard RTR Slewing Ring can be used in ambient temperatures from -45℃ to up +70℃, please contact us in the case of higher or lower
operating temperatures.
8. Service life
The service life of the slewing bearing depends on the operating conditions. The following factors are keys:

·Duty factor
·Ambient temperature
·Lubrication etc.
9. Inspection to rings
Inner & outer diameter size, height, magnetism remained, thickness of the raceway for ball, central diameter of the mounting holes, space
between holes. For those with outer teeth should also inspect teeth height, constant cord thickness, etc.
10. Package & storage of slewing bearings
10.1 Package of slewing bearings
Every slewing bearing before delivering to customers should be packed well,of which inside,outside surface and raceway are spreaded
with antirust&lubricate grease.Inner package is made of plastic film,and then compositive kraft,outer package is enlaced with flax pieces.
10.2 Storage of slewing bearing
RTR slewing bearings are well treated with antirust and oil seal before delivery, which can ensure non-rust in 12 months in the normal
storage condition. When slewing bearings are in antirust period, they can be stored when their original package is in good condition. As
to the storage is in excess of antirust period, slewing bearings should be treated with cleanout and oil seal again.
Slewing bearings should be placed horizontally in a dry breezy flat field, which are away from chemical and other erosive things. If
slewing bearings are piled up for storage, it’s necessary to use at least three stow-wood in equal height, which are equally placed between
every slewing bearing, and their location between up & low level should be consistent。
11. Installation & Maintenance of slewing bearings
11.1 Installation of slewing bearings
Before installation of every set of RTR slewing bearings, it’s necessary to check the host installation plane. Make sure that the support
part has enough rigidity, and it should be mechanically processed in order to remove the sundries and burrs. Technology required to joint
surface of support part should accord with Form 10.

There’s a quenching soft belt marks “S” on the rings’ surface of every set of RTR slewing bearings offered to customers. Soft belt should
be located in non-loading area or non-regular loading area (Where filler plugs locate) during installation. Installation should be begun
with slewing bearings’ radial location, screw down the mounting bolt and check the slewing condition. In order to ensure the slewing
steadiness of bearings, gear mesh checking is needed before screwing down the bolt completely. It should has enough preload when
screwing down the bolt, which should be 70% of yield strength of bolt material. Mounting bolt should be used with Q & T flat gasket not
spring gasket.
The fastening bolt must reach the required preload when assemble the slewing bearing. Preload of different diameter bolt should accord
with Form 11.

12. Maintenance of slewing bearings
RTR slewing bearings should be checked with mounting bolt preload moment to see whether it’s qualified as required after 100 working
hours. Since the first check, it should be repeated every 500 working hours.
After installation, some lubrication grease should be filled into bearings, when doing this, remember to slew the bearings in order to
ensure grease equal arrangement. It’s normal for slewing bearings to lose some lubrication grease after working for some time, so grease
refilling is necessary for working slewing bearings once every 50~100 working hours. This period should be reduced in the working
condition of high temperature and dust. This refilling is also needed when machine stops turning for some time.

The double-row ball slewing ring has three seat-rings.The steel balls and the spacers may be directly arranged into the upper and lower
raceways.Two rows of steel balls with different diameters are fitted according to the load. Such open mode fitting features extraordinary

The hardness is tested by Brinell Apparatus (HBW10/3000). The Brinell Apparatus may bring a depression in the surface of the forged rings.
 Fastening Bolts
RTR can supply the fastening bolts for the slewing ring bearings for mounting. We can produce as customer requirement, according to
the bolt grade. Normally the bolts for mounting the slewing rings need very strong abilities. Normally the bolts can use the same material
as the slewing ring bearings, or also can use others as requires.And we can do some coat on the surface of the bolts.
 Pinion
We can produce the match pinion of slewing rings according to the spec. If customers purchase pinion together with slewing rings, that
can be better it matching work, and make your purchasing easily and all solved by RTR. We also can provide fastening bolts for the
slewing rings.
 Slewing ring repair and refurbishment
Slewing ring refurbishment can offer significant savings when compared to a replacement slewing ring. Repair or refurbishment is
usually only economic on slewing ring with large bore size and depends on the degree of wear or damage. Repair on smaller slewing
rings is possible, but only becomes economic on larger batch sizes.
Certain types of damage are easy to repair, such as minor surface scuffing or light staining. Moderate surface conditions, such as
corrosion, indentation of fine spalling, and more difficult to repair and will probably require raceway grinding. Also some bad condition
we have to change the rollers/balls and cage, re-grinding on the raceway and surface. It all depends on the status of the slewing rings.
So if you want to repair on your slewing ring, please contact with us to show the condition of the slewing rings and better the photos to
let us check if can be repaired and give you the repair suggestion on this.
Before repair
1, Send us the details status of the slewing ring (bearings),
include photo and drawing
2, We will see if we can repair or not, if needed we will send
engineer to check.
3, Send customers repair plan and rough cost
4, Customer send us the old slewing rings (bearings)
After repair
5, After receiving, we may clean, measure and give you the
detailed test report and exact cost.
6, Repair according to plan, and if some old parts can not be
used, we may do the new one.
7, When finish, customer can come to factory to inspect.
8, Send good finished ones to customers.
Slew drive
1. RTR Slew Drive Introduction
Introduction:
RTR slewing drives are powered with hourglass worm technology for maximum gear torque and the smoothest rotation. Typical slew
drive applications include solar industry, truck cranes, man lifts, utility equipment, hydraulic attachments, oil tool equipment, marine
cranes, tire handlers, digger derricks and automotive lifts, but the slew drives are used in many other applications requiring load holding
and rotational capability. We offer different slew drive models with different moment load capacities.
The standard slew drives are fitted with an open housing and single self locking hourglass worm shaft. Once the power source input is
returned to neutral, the worm shaft will lock the load into position without requiring any external braking device.
The slew drive can be with worm gear and helical gear. And also for the inside slewing ring, it can be single-row ball slewing ring, and
also can be double-row ball slewing ring. The one with double-row can take much more load. It can be chosen depended on your
application.

5. Installation adjustment& attentions in operation for slew drive
1. Slew drive must be installed on a hard horizontal surface, and the bolts of the firm steps must be tightened in case of loosen and
abnormal vibration; remove painting residues, burr and extraneous material to make sure installing datum plane and bracket surface flat.
To prevent local overload of slew drive and ensure its flexible running, mounting bracket shall be eliminated internal stress and done
mechanical treatment after welding processes. Flatness(including horizontal angle deviation) should be controlled in a certain range.
2. The special bolts size for slew drive should be in keeping with the standard GB/T5782-2000 and GB/T5783-2000 of the People’s
Republic of China, the bolts strength grade should reach the national standard GB/T3098.1-2000 regulations of grade 8.8.
(1) washer size should be in keeping with the standard GB/T1230-2006 and standard GB/T123-2006. Spring washer is not used; the
washer should be required quenching and tempering and selected correct strength grade based on the load of slew drive.
(2) Nut size should be in keeping with the standard GB/T6170-2000 and standard GB/T6175-2000 of the People’s Republic of China.
The mechanical properties should be in keeping with the national standard GB/T3098.2-200 regular of the People’s Republic of China.
(3) Tighten bolts should be pre load tightening force according to mainframe design rules, unless there are special provisions, general
tightening force for pre loading should be 70% of bolt yield limit, screw thread is allowed to oil in small quantity when it is tightened.

In order to avoid the deviation between the bolt locking force, please pay attention to the following items:
� Oil the screw thread and head in small quantity to ensure to resist the unified friction (adhesives are not used).
� Preload to the bolt including the washer, if necessary, in 3 steps with 30% 80% 100%.
For hydraulic motor, the preload clamping force con not exceed 90% of the finished product.
3. After installation, clear dust and dirt on the slew ring in time, paint the exposed part with antirust paint and adjust power source.
6. Maintenance instructions for slew drive
1. According to JBT2300-1999, slew drive should be oiled in small quantity of lithium base grease before delivery, please check and oil
new grease in the different operating condition before installing.
2. Relubrication intervals mainly depend on the prevailing work and environmental conditions as well as on the version of the slew drive.
The following table can be used for a reference value. Slew drive shall generally be relubricated before and after long inactive periods.
While rotating the slew drive, inject grease into all the cleaned grease nipples consecutively until a bead of fresh grease spills from seal
and the grease fills in the raceway equably.

3. It is necessary to clear the sundries on the surface of slew drive away and check whether seal is aged, dissilient, breakage or loose. If
any one of above conditions happens, please replace new seal to prevent sundries getting into raceway and running grease off, then
relubricate grease to avoid corrosion of roller and raceway.
4. Grease types can be determined under actual operating conditions by customer, for example: raceway can be lubricated by 3#,4#
graphite, industry grease, 203# grease, 7002# bearing grease and 2# aluminum base grease and so on. It is necessary to check the
pre-load of bolt to keep enough pre-load after first 100 hours in operating. And this inspection shall be repeated after every 500 hours.
5. After 2000hours in operating, if any bolt looses m,ore than 20% torque, please replace the bolt and two neighbors, if 20% of bolts
loose more than 20%, please replace all the bolts. After 14000 hours in operating, replace all bolts, nuts and washers with new ones.
6. It is necessary to give close attention to operating condition, in case of increasing noise, impact or power suddenly, it should be fixed
until clearing all the faults. If necessary, dismantle the slew drive, clean and check it.
RTR Turntable
Turntables are part for fitting onto trailers and agricultural vehicles to connect the A-frame to the trailer chassis so it can swivel.Their
purpose is to transmit both the axial load, thrust and traction forces. None of their parts is susceptible to wear. Each turntable consists of
two steel rings designed for flange mounting. The raceways are machined so as to ensure that the load transmission is favorable directed
between the antifriction bearing steel balls
that are fitted. An initial filling of grease protects the raceway system.

The turntables are supplied as either undrilled or drilled bearings with the standard type being filled with lithium-saponified grease and
the low-maintenance type. Every turntable is coated with a primer and can therefore be painted at the same time as the trailer. The primer
is based on a synthetic resin compound.

Gears and gear box
1. Spur Gears
A spur gear has a cylindrical pitch surface with teeth that are parallel to the axis. Spur Gears are widely used in kinds of application. We
can do the shaping, hobbing and grinding, the max size we can do is 6000mm.
2. Helical Gears
Helical gears have teeth that are cut at an angle. During the engagement of the teeth, contact begins at one end of the tooth, and then
spreads gradually throughout rotation, until full mesh is achieved. The teeth of the helical gears then gradually exit mesh in the same
manner.RTR max size for helical gears is 2000mm.
3. Worm Gears
A worm gear is used when a large speed reduction ratio is required between crossed axis shafts which do not intersect. A basic helical
gear can be used but the power which can be transmitted is low. A worm drive consists of a large diameter worm wheel with a worm
screw meshing with teeth on the periphery of the worm wheel. RTR max size for worm gears is 2000mm.
4. Spiral Bevel Gears
Spiral bevel gears are used to transmit power between shafts that are at a 90-degree orientation to each other. Spiral bevel gears have
teeth that are curved and oblique.It is used in the oil fields, mining, metallurgy and marine fields.The max size we made is 2000mm.
5. Bevel Gear Sets
Spiral bevel gear sets are most commonly used to transmit power between shafts that are at a right angle or 90 degree orientation to each
other, although almost any shaft angle is possible. With these gears, the gear teeth gradually enter into mesh during rotation until
maximum mesh is achieved, The teeth then leave mesh in the same manner.
6. Gear Shaft
The gear shaft is the axle of the gear, providing the rotation that allows one gear to engage with and turn another. Through the gears and
shafts in an automobile transmission, the engine is able to run at a constant speed, while the auto wheels can be run faster or slower, or
even in reverse, using the same engine rotational direction and speed.
7. Gear Box
Gearbox uses gears and gear trains to provide speed and torque conversions from a rotating power source to another device.
