Mesh Diamond Powders – RB, MBRE, MBR
Mesh Diamond Powders – RB, MBRE, MBR
RB
A semi-blocky friable diamond that continually breaks down, forming new sharp cutting edges when used on a
wide variety of non-ferrous materials for cutting tools, including cermets. It is used in both phenolic resin and
glassy vitrified bond systems where low power and cost are primary considerations.
MBRE
An angular shaped strong crystal with some friable particles used when a stronger crystal than RB is required
and price is the primary concern. It is widely used for large resin bonded wheels where abrasive cost exceeds
25% of the total wheel cost, such as centerless and chamfering PCD grinding.
MBR
A sharp angular shaped crystal very similar to MBRE, but slightly more consistent in particle shape with a cleaner
surface. This is the best choice for both filled and non-filled phenolic bond systems used for wheels in the
manufacture of rotary and insert tools.

Mesh Diamond Powders – MB2, MB1, SG30
MB2
A diamond crystal, less angular than MBR and with fewer weak particles, recommended for more demanding
grinding applications requiring the best balance of free cutting and wheel life. Available with Ni30, Ni56, and
Cu50 coatings for stronger phenolic and some polyimide bond systems used in steel/carbide combinations and
polycrystalline tools.
MB1
A semi-blocky, strong diamond shape with sharp edges and excellent impact resistance required for harder materials.
SG30
A premium metal bond type mesh diamond, slightly stronger and less friable than MB1 used primarily in general
purpose, low-to-medium force bronze metal bonded grinding applications where sharp edges and good impact
resistance are required. Glass beveling, roughing and semi-finishing as well as low production automotive glass
grinding are common applications for SG30. It is also used in many electroplated applications, including grinding
glass, quartz and ceramic materials. Similar in price to SG40 and SG50.

Mesh Diamond Powders – SG40, SG50, SG55
SG40
A strong engineered crystalline diamond type with a combination of shapes including more cubo-octahedral
shapes than MB1 for metal bonded grinding applications. SG40 combines the sharp edges of MB1 and SG30,
lower friability, and higher impact resistance, making this an excellent choice for free cutting in brittle materials.
It is the best choice for high-production automotive glass grinding requiring minimal chipping and no burn in
pencil edging and seaming. Similar in price to SG30 and SG50.
SG50
A very strong crystalline diamond for metal bond applications requiring high impact strength, thermal toughness and
consistent particle shape. Best used when the grinding application involves high force per grit on brittle, hard glasses
and where dimensional accuracy is important. Typical applications include core drilling and grooving. Similar in price
to SG30 and SG40.
SG55
A very strong cubo-octahedral shaped diamond with very consistent shape from particle to particle, for metal bond
applications requiring the highest impact strength and thermal toughness. This premium-priced product is the
best choice for high-speed automotive pencil edging or any high-production, high-force applications that involve
grinding tungsten carbide, ferrites or other hard ceramic materials.

Coated Mesh Diamond Powders – RB Ni30, RB Ni56,
MBR Ni56, RB Cu50
RB Ni30 and RB Ni56
The RB crystal is available with both 30% and 56% electroless nickel coatings for phenolic and polyimide
resin bond systems. The coating significantly improves the mechanical adhesion of the diamond and bond
leading to increased G ratio for wheels in a broad range of grinding applications. ABC’s nickel coating is the
most consistent in the industry, with an optimized surface roughness and balance between ductile and
brittle characteristics.
MBR Ni56
MBR is available with the same electroless nickel coating used on our RB crystals. It further enhances the
retention of diamond in the resin bond by increasing the surface area of these more blocky crystals, and is
particularly helpful in high stock removal applications where coolant is used.
RB Cu50
A 50% by weight copper coating designed for both phenolic and polyimide resin bond systems with moderate and
high levels of copper filler. The copper coating allows for rapid removal of heat in the grinding zone, providing for
better cooling and less burn in sensitive applications like fluting small rotary tools and end work, and high stock
removal fluting from solid blanks. It is also commonly used in dry grinding operations with lighter stock removal
where heat can be a problem. ABC copper coating is stabilized and packaged to reduce oxidation prior to use.
