2003-2008 Toyota Corolla Short Shifter
Installation Manual
-Remove stock shift knob by rotating counter clockwise.
-Pull up on the shift boot console to remove it.
-Disconnect the wires underneath the console and remove the console.
-In the center compartment remove the 2 bolts at the bottom with a 10 mm socket and a ratchet.
-Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the 2 screws at the front of the console.
-Disconnect the wires pictured here and remove the complete center console from the car.
-Remove the pin holding the side cable with needle nose pliers as pictured. Keep the pin aside.
-Remove the push clip on the right side of the shifter by prying it off with a flat head screwdriver. You
can destroy it as a new clip is provided with the short shifter.
-Using a punch and a hammer, slide the pin out of the shifter assembly as pictured.
-Remove the pin from the shifter assembly.
-Remove the side lever with the spring. Pay good attention to how the spring legs are installed around
the side arm of the shifter to install it the same way with the short shifter.
-At the bottom of the shifter, spread the metal legs at the end of the shifter cable outwards to remove
the cable from the bottom pivot point of the shifter by pushing down on the cable.
-Using a flat head screwdriver, pry the top white bushing up to remove it from the shifter assembly as
pictured. Work your way around the bushing with the screwdriver. Remove the shifter from the car.
-Using a 12 mm socket and ratchet, remove the 4 bolts at each corner of the assembly.
-Pry out the metal sleeve and rubber bushing from each corner.
-Install the aluminum bushing with smaller diameter facing up as pictured on each corner. Secure in
place with the stock bolt and washer, making sure the assembly is completely seated on the bushings.
-Remove the boot retainer from the stock shifter and install it on the short shifter.
-Remove the bottom pivot bushing with the provided special tool, a punch and a hammer on a vice.
-Grease the bottom pivot point on the short shifter and press the pivot bushing on it.
-Grease the main pivot ball and side pivot ball on the short shifter.
-Install the short shifter in the car by reversing the previous steps. Installation is completed!
