John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, was an 18th English

the gaming table, he instructed his valet to bring him meat tucked
between two pieces of bread. This fork-free sustenance allowed him
to continue gambling without interruption, with the added bonus of
keeping the cards grease-free.
The Wall Street Journal once described the sandwich as Britain’s
greatest contribution to gastronomy. They obviously haven’t tried
our fish and chips!

LONDON PUB FAVOURITES
In the 1960’s pubs in England were for drinking, the serious drinkers claimed the smell of food ruined the pleasure of drinking alcoholic refreshments,
predominantly beer, so you would be lucky to get any thing more than a packet of crisps (potato chips) to eat! In the 1970’s that began to change, here
are few of the early favorite dishes.
FISH & CHIPS
VOTED BEST IN THE COUNTY
Icelandic cod deep fried in our Pub beer batter,
served with tartar sauce, coleslaw and fries. $17
Just like in the chippys in London, except no newspaper wrapping,
served with coleslaw, not garden peas ... you want peas, just ask!
Smithfield Bangers & Mash
Pork and herb sausage served with real mashed potatoes
and garden vegetables $16
Smithfield meat market was established in 1174, yes, 942 years ago!
Our succulent bangers are a little fresher than that! Like them hot? Ask
for English mustard, who said the Brits don’t like it hot!
Brick Lane Curry
Classic curry served on basmati rice with naan bread and mango
chutney $13 vegetable $15 chicken $15 shrimp
Brick Lane is the home of the best Curry Houses in London.
Westminster Cottage Pie
Seasoned ground beef, mushrooms and vegetables in a rich
gravy sauce. topped with mashed potatoes, served with a side
of garden vegetables $16
A favorite in the Houses of Parliament.
“East Enders” Pastie & Mash
Cubed beef, potatoes and vegetables baked inside a flaky pastry
shell, served with mashed potatoes and gravy $15
As you leave London Bridge station in the Borough of Southwark,
London SE 1, the first kiosk on the left is the West Cornish Pasty kiosk.
Cockney’s Chicken Pie
Roasted chicken, herb gravy with peas and vegetables, topped
with flaky pastry, served with potatoes and fresh garden
vegetables $17
Any Londoners born within the earshot of Bow Bells are proudly known
as Cockneys!
