e just had our second work group out at Phoebe’s Place and have another scheduled for mid-April. One
group was a team of people from a company and the other was a group of college youth. It was amazing
how many things got done when they split up on different projects. They were laughing and having a good
time and getting the many projects completed that we just couldn’t get to on our own. Yes, we dangled play
time with a Golden Retriever as an incentive, and it worked! All the volunteers were great.
In the old days, companies would pay big money to “experts” to have you hike up a mountain blindfolded,
and they called it “team building.” I must admit that I never felt any great sense of satisfaction from
those exercises.
If your company is involved or wants to be involved with the community, please let me know and we would
love to put you and your group to work. Volunteering for Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies is a great
team building exercise. Volunteer groups can come out and accomplish something very valuable for us. We
have lots of projects on our list, most of which are behind the scenes. We will pay you with something much
better than money. You will get Golden Retriever love. What could be better?

Gear Up for Summer
Help our Golden Angels dig in for summer and plant some donations in GRRR’s Golden Angel Fund. One hundred
percent of Golden Angel Fund donations go toward the medical expenses of our most in-need dogs.
Three of our Angel sweeties will be on the GRRR Facebook page and website starting April 26th. They want to go
camping, fishing, and make s’mores—yum! Help our Golden Angels gear up for summer. Watch for it April 26th thru
May 3rd, then come to the Spring Fling at GRRR on May 3rd.
ver the years I have belonged to various civic organizations. Kiwanis, Optimists, Rotary, Lyons, and others
typically have a program portion of their weekly meetings. Usually, a speaker comes in and talks about
a specific topic of interest. At GRRR, we have done this on occasion as well, but I think we are missing the
bigger opportunity to spread the word about GRRR and about rescues in general. Rescuing a dog is a great
way to put a crimp in the “backyard breeder” business. Often, rescues are the best source for a sweet loving
companion, whether a hiking mate, jogging buddy, or just an all-around best friend.
If you belong to a civic organization please let us know. We would love to be on the program schedule. Where
permitted, we bring along a couple of very well behaved Goldens (who get a lot of love at these types of
gatherings). We would love to speak to your group and share information about GRRR and rescues in general.

s mentioned in past e-blasts, we get lots of questions about other ways to support GRRR. So far, we
have discussed “in memory” and “naming tributes” donations as well as employee match programs and
retail match programs (e.g., AmazonSmile). You can see a complete listing on our website under “Other
Ways to Give.”
This time, I’d like to highlight recurring gifts through monthly auto deductions. If you think about it, recurring
gifts are very logical for the non-profit world. It’s comparable to the paycheck you get from your job. Having
that weekly or monthly check makes it easier for you to schedule and manage monthly expenses. It works
the same way for GRRR. Recurring donations help us schedule and manage our monthly expenses and help
smooth out those financial valleys that we have periodically through the year.
Believe me, we cherish and appreciate every donation that is made, whether small or large and no matter when
it comes in. We’ve seen a slight uptick in recurring donations and have had a couple questions about whether
we accept recurring donation. It is the first option on our donate page:

The Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies’ 11th Annual Photo Contest
is now open! Your Golden could be featured in the 2016 calendar!
The Grand Prize Winner will have their photo on the cover. Last year’s
calendar was a huge success—we received over 500 entries and sold
almost 1,500 calendars!

• $5 per photo entry fee; no limit to number of photos you can submit!
12 Monthly and 12 Honorable Mention winners all receive a free calendar.
• Golden Retrievers only; doesn’t have to be a GRRR or Rescue dog.
