Upcoming Voted Bond Referendum
On August 2, 2016, the Lake Linden-Hubbell Public Schools will be asking its residents to
vote on a bond referendum not to exceed $2,770,000 for “remodeling, furnishing, equipping
and re-equipping and installing security measures for school buildings, acquiring and
installing instructional technology equipment for school buildings; purchasing school buses;
and developing and improving athletic fields, a playground, and sites.”
If approved, the estimated millage that will be levied for the
proposed bonds in 2017 is 1.25 mills ($1.25 on each
$1,000 of taxable valuation). The maximum number of
years the bonds could be outstanding, exclusive of
refunding, is 14 years. If approved, the estimated simple
average annual millage anticipated to be required to retire
this bond debt is 2.22 mills. (As the millage needed for the
existing debt declines, that millage would be replaced in the
later years by what would be needed for the new debt.)
Earmarked for this potential project are infrastructure and safety improvements. The high
school turns 100 years old this summer and still utilizes the original waste and water lines.
The elementary school was built in 1998. The skywalk connecting the two buildings has
leaks that create a hazard for students traveling from one building to another and has ice
which forms on the uninsulated roof and falls off, endangering those below. There is also
ice formation on the side and back steps of the elementary school.
The District is constantly working to provide a safe environment for all of its students.
Currently, inadequate door latches pose potential safety issues in the high school. Years of
different doors being added have created a number of keys required in the buildings. A
keyless entry system would provide more security to the facilities. Also, the fire alarm
system is in need of updating.

LLHS to Host 100th Year
Open House
The Lake Linden-Hubbell High School building turns
100 years old this year. In celebration of this
milestone, the District will be holding an Open
House on Sunday, July 3 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The community is
invited to stroll
through the building
and see the changes
that have taken place
over the years. Tours
will be provided and
refreshments will be
served.
Our Mission: Working together to ensure that all students achieve their maximum potential and contribute to society.

Bond Referendum (continued from front page)
If this referendum passes, the District would renovate the
existing walkway between the two buildings, replace high
school entrance doors, update the fire alarm system in all
buildings, replace stair treads in the elementary, replace
exterior masonry on the high school building, replace the
elementary roof, remodel high school locker rooms, remodel
first floor restrooms in the high school, add roofs to the side
and back elementary entrances, improve the football practice
field/playground, renovate the high school concession area
to include a commons area, replace some classroom
furniture, and replace some kitchen/lunchroom equipment.
Other possible projects would include ventilation in the gym
and auditorium, an exterior programmable sign, bus
purchases, and computer purchases/lab replacements.
The school election takes place on Tuesday, August 2, 2016
as part of the primary election. The polls will be open from
7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Throughout the upcoming weeks, the
District is committed to providing the community with detailed
information on the bond proposal. Please visit our website at
www.lakelinden.k12.mi.us for up-to-date information on the
proposal and information on community meetings and
presentations. Also, feel free to contact Superintendent
Craig Sundblad directly at [email protected] or
(906) 296-6211.

Lego Robot Summer Camp
The “Robotic Turmoil” Robotics Team will be offering a
Summer Lego Mindstorms Robot Camp for students ages

build and program the Lego Mindstorms robots to see, hear
and perceive their surroundings using light, touch and
ultrasonic sensors. Students will use their building and
programming skills to complete challenges, run courses and
have fun! Go to http://roboticll.edublogs.org for more
information and to download the application form.
The sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and include
snacks and a Robotic Turmoil t-shirt. There is a $100 fee
and checks may be made payable to Lake Linden-Hubbell

Congratulations to
Lake Linden-Hubbell
Industrial Arts
Teacher, Jason
Erva, for receiving a
$5,000 Lowe’s
Toolbox for
Education grant.
The grant will fund a project that involves the construction of
a storage building. The building will then be put up for sale
and the proceeds will fund future building projects for the
Building Construction classes. The grant also includes new
tools for our building program.
We would like to thank Lowe’s for generously supporting this
project!
