DISTINCTIVE TRAINS
The story of the Burlington Zephyrs is one of the
most brilliant and fascinating chapters in all American
rail history. On May 26, 1934, the first of these renowned stainless steel speedsters astonished the travel
world with a 1015-mile non-stop run from Denver to
Chicago in 785 minutes-an average of 77.6 miles per
hour. On Armistice Day, 1934, it entered service between Kansas City, Omaha and Uncoln establishing
the first diesel-powered streamline train service in
America.
The Burlington Zephyrs now number more thari a
dozen and travel considerably in excess of three million miles a year linking many of the important cities
of the West with the fastest train service in history.
