Leen and Bertus started learning mens haircutting when they were just fourteen years old. With
their love of classic barbering and the influence of Rock n Roll, Kustom Kulture and its
subcultures, it was inevitable that one day they would open Schorem Haarsnijder en Barbier (aka
The Scumbag Barbers), an old school men-only barbershop in the heart of the working class city
of Rotterdam, Holland.
What Leen, Bertus and The Scumbag Barbers do better than anything else is cut hair. Classic
barbering for them is a profession, beyond a skill, beyond a craft. It’s a mission, a calling – a
commitment to provide nothing but the very best pomps, quiffs, flat tops, fades and razor shaves
on the planet, as featured on Schorem’s famous barbershop posters.
Since its opening, Schorem has been frequented by greasers, rockers, bikers, psychobillys,
ruffians and other fine gentleman scumbags from every echelon of society. So when they
couldn’t find the right pomades worthy of their exacting standards, they went and formulated
their own – and Reuzel was born.
Reuzel is actually the Dutch word for lard, and as old school barbers it’s a wink to the past when
pomades were made from animal fats and fragranced with apples. (The word pomade actually
comes from the french word pomme, meaning apple).
More than fifty years of barbering and grooming experience went into creating these products
(plus a lot of love), so Leen and Bertus hope you like them as much as they do – welcome to the
House of Reuzel!
