• India is made up of
– several dozen ethnic groups,
– speaking their own languages and dialects,
– having distinct cultural traditions
• The music of India includes multiple
varieties of folk, popular, pop, classical
music and R&B.
• India's classical music tradition, remains
fundamental to the lives of Indians today
as sources of spiritual inspiration, cultural
expression and pure entertainment.
• But even though this country is far away
from Spain, it has always been an
endless source of inspiration and
celebration.
• Throughout the history, western musicians
have composed
about
Indian
Topics.
• For instance:
• During the 19th century, a French
composer called Delibes gave us
an opera:
“Lakmé”
This opera captures the ambiance of the Orient
that was in vogue during the
latter part of the nineteenth
century
Set in British India in the mid-19th

• In the first act, Lakmé and one of her servants
pause by a river to gather flowers.

the opera's exotic atmosphere, and that

most familiar numbers any composer, in any
genre, has ever written.

is a song by The Beatles, first released in1965.
• It is the first example of a rock band playing
the sitar in one of their songs; it was played
by George Harrison
• During The Beatles' American tour in August
1965, Harrison's friend introduced him to
Indian classical music and the work of sitar
player Ravi Shankar.
• Harrison became fascinated with the
instrument, immersed himself in Indian music
and played an important role in expanding the
emerging interest in the sitar in particular and
Indian music in general in the West
• Three decades later, this interest was still alive
• With a monochromatic bluish appearance
throughout, the video shows Madonna playing
an ethereal role, with long black hair, black
gowns, and mehndi on her hand showing the
Hindu word Om on her palm
• It was released in 1998
• Musically, "Frozen" is an electronic ballad.
• Frozen" was a radical change for Madonna. The
darker electronic undertones, eastern strings, a
touch of Middle Eastern percussion in the
opening and her new vocal range were all
previously unexplored territory for Madonna.

campaign ‘Open Your World‘.
• You will notice that the date takes place in a
Chinese restaurant, but for some reason the
backing music is in fact a 1960s Bollywood
number called, ‘Jaan Pehechaan Ho’.
• The commercial will no doubt appeal to the
younger male audience
