PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Design of women’s headwear, neckwear and other small accessories for Bollman Hat
Company owned brands and private label customers.
OVERVIEW
Interpretation of the design direction or brand strategy to create a range of products that
are creative, and drive a consistent trend right position. Product design is to be
completed in a timely manor and to strictly follow the designated timeline. Designer will
be responsible for Betmar, Karen Kane and all other women’s related product needs as
indicated by the Design Director. Will be expected to communicate with factories and
Product Managers throughout the development process to ensure product developed
meets all design, cost and quality requirements. Potential for design work to extend into
other categories such as men’s or kids products as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create seasonal trend package for Betmar and Karen Kane and other
projects as needed.
- Ability to create technical, detailed & accurate design specifications
- Execution of all design work within timeline and meet specified deadlines
- Must show a strong understanding of brands and customers within both a
commercial and directional context
- Be proactive and invested in development of ideas
- Communicate progress regularly with Design Director
- Assess the sales performance of previous season’s product from a design/
trend perspective to provide comments/ recommendations during range
planning meeting
- Travel to factories, customers and trade shows as required
- Create a product ranges that are the correct balance of aspirational product,
mass market appropriate styles and carry over
- Oversee sampling of prototypes in all stages of development
- Communicate with Product Managers and factories on development and
revisions of all of your designs and other designer’s products as directed
- Able to explain, present trends and product details in all milestone meetings
- Ability to present the final range to internal sales team, distributors and sales
agents/reps for sales conferences and customer service meetings
- Design & creation of product specific branding, swing tickets etc.

Responsible for adhering to departmental budget
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s Design Degree
- Computer literate on Adobe design software and Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of Headwear Manufacturing techniques
- Material and manufacturing process knowledge
- Experience working with Blue Cherry is a plus
- Excellent time management and interpersonal skills
- Must possess confident decision making ability
- Excellent communication, organizational and presentation skills
- Knowledge of technical construction of various accessories including knitwear,
blocked headwear and cut& sew
- Thorough understanding of product direction as it relates to brief and brand
direction
- Minimum 4 years experience with design and development of product
- Possess strong fashion aesthetics and attunement to market fluctuations and
trends
- Extremely motivated and a self starter

The Women’s Accessories Designer may need to manage multiple projects at
one time and may be interrupted frequently and/or make changes frequently to
meet deadlines. They may find that their environment is at times fast paced,
stressful with aggressive deadlines to meet.
