Daniela Lorenz Expressive – Powerful – Virtuosic Daniela Lorenz was born into a musical family in Switzerland. From a very early age her heart was touched by South American music and played Charango and Quena in Andean music groups while she was a teenager. During her 4 year degree at the Rhythm Seminar at the Conservatory of Zürich, she also learned how to play the Paraguayan harp. After graduating from University, she continued to learn more about harps and played with a range of harpists including Marcelino Benitez and Nicolás Caballero in Paraguay and Madrid. Along with many performances and concerts in Switzerland and around the world, Daniela Lorenz also composes and arranges music for the Paraguayan harp. In addition to her solo career, she also takes part in various instrumental and vocal formations as well sharing her knowledge in courses and workshops. Many of her own records have been aired on Swiss radio. Currently, she is focused on the research and development of South American Harps as well as their origins. Latin American Harp Music Through the diversity of the Latin American Harp, the listener experiences great virtuosity, powerful expressions and dynamics which melt together into exhilarating rhythms and melancholy. With passion and feeling, Daniela Lorenz reveals the immense sound of the Paraguayan harp and awakens yours desires and dreams as well as making its ambiences come alive. The artist has added short but interesting annotations throughout the programme so the listener can get a feel for the musical and cultural background of the music. The Paraguayan Harp Since the harps and music of the Jesuit missionaries in the 17th and 18th century, various types of harps and music styles have developed in Paraguay, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Mexico The Paraguayan harp has become one of the most structurally developed and well known harps of Latin America thanks to the international success of music group «Trio Los Paraguayos». The harp is made from light cedar wood and has between 36 and 38 Nylon strings, which is played using your finger nails. The harp is the national instrument of Paraguay.
