bourg City Tourist Office also organises a large
number of popular events and concerts. “Summer
in the city” is a series of events, which presents visitors of the city with a huge amount of choice.
THE SPECIAL TIP FOR SUMMER:
BY REQUEST OF THE GRAND DUKE
When Luxembourgers talk about the “Count of Luxembourg” they usually refer to
Count Siegfried, who was the founder not only of the House of Luxembourg, but
also of the country. Alternatively, they could also be talking about the counts of
Luxembourg, who bore the German. Today the head of state is the Grand Duke.
The Grand Duke's Palace, the state residence of the Grand Duke has one
of the most beautiful facades in the city, in the Flemish Renaissance style (16th C.).
The splendid
interiors and sumptuous furnishings (with light
installations by the designer Ingo Maurer, amongst other things) can be viewed
during the summer months and give a royal insight into the Luxembourg
monarchy. More information can be found from May onwards at www.lcto.lu

RESOLUTE – DESIGN CHANGES
The exhibition “Resolute – Design Changes” explores contemporary graphic design and its social relevance. While the frequency and effect of imagery in
our society increase, the influence of designers on
our behaviour and opinions is amplified. The emerging generation uses technological development and
social awareness to truly engage people in making
change happen. Driven by technological inventions
they unleashed an innovative race in communication,
eventually propelling graphic designers as one of the
most important influencers of man's behaviour and
opinions in our time.

M+M – 7 TAGE
For a few years, M+M (Martin de Mattia and Marc
Weis) have been developing a work of art focused
on the media and their mechanisms, not only analysing modes of communication but also the manner
in which these are perceived and "consumed" in our
society of today. To strengthen their message, the
artists adopt a visual, formal language which is very
close to their subject and they don't shy away from
producing videos in an almost cinematographic manner. The images thus have a quality which can be
immediately identified with this medium which is then
reworked and manipulated by the artists.

IMPERIUM ROMANUM
Alfred Seiland, Professor of Photography at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design, is one of the
leading modern photographers. For many years now,
he has been visiting antique sites in the former Roman
Empire, capturing them with his analogue, largeformat camera. They are often difficult to access –
some are not public places and otherwise hidden
from tourists.
Seiland's photographs mirror famous showplaces
of history with their architecture and works of art.
The photographs confront the viewer with themes
that shed light on the conflict between antiquity and
modernity. Seiland condenses moments into perfect
compositions, employing colour like a painter. The
artistic flair of this master of large-format photography
makes some people smile, but others unsettled, as
they tell time and again of the destruction of antique
legacies by mankind.
The exhibition in the Musée national d'histoire et d'art
is a series of 90 large-format colour prints.

History and Art Luxembourg presents, in close collaboration with the Reiss-Engelhorn Museums (rem)
– the world’s largest exhibition of mummies to date

embark the visitors on an immersive 5,000 year journey through the history and science around the globe,
learning about mummification as practiced not only
in ancient Egypt, but on almost every continent, and
during almost every historical epoch. The exhibition
also shows mummification to be a natural process,
occurring in hot, dry desert sands, in eternal ice, in
moors, and even, amazingly, in dry cellars. Countless
associated finds and priceless burial site treasures,
as well as sensational historical research crown this
impressive multimedia exhibition, and afford a fascinating cultural and historical insight into people of bygone generations.
