DanceTime
at Port Williams
DanceTime at Port Williams is a social dance
club comprised of people interested in both
Standard and Latin ballroom dancing. They
meet to dance Sunday afternoons from 3 to 5

with the regular season starting on Sunday,
September 7 and running until May. Anyone
interested is welcome to drop by and see what
we are all about. If you would like further
information, please feel free to contact Marion
Schlaich at [email protected]

The club has been in existence for 11 years,
with membership coming from all over with
different levels of dance experience. They are a
club and not a school, but do occasionally have
guest instructors offering workshops, and club
members are always willing to share expertise. In addition to their regular practice sessions,
they also host several dances throughout the
year: a Christmas and Spring Dance, and some
other Theme dances in between. The first
dance of the year is a Fall Dance on Sept. 27
featuring “Men Will Be Boys”. This event is
a fundraiser for the Port Williams Volunteer
Fire Department. Tickets are $10 per person,
available by contacting
Avary at (902) 6706910 or Marion (902)

The Port Williams Park is located on Highway
358, across from Centennial Drive. The park
was established in 2010 and was a community
effort with the goal being a safe and friendly
place for kids of all ages to gather and play. In
addition to having plenty of parking, the park
includes, an amazing play structure for children
2-12 years. There are five awesome slides,
climbers and stepping-stones. The equipment
is rounded out with swings (for babies as well),
some stationary pieces and most recently, a
tire-swing that was donated by a local resident.
There is a hard-surface court that is used for
basketball and ball hockey (a local resident
donated hockey nets). As their 40th anniversary project the Port
Williams & District Lions Club donated a
sun shelter built by local business, Wise Owl
Joinery. The walking trail features trees and
benches donated by residents. The Park is also
home to StoryWalk – an interactive initiative
that combines the benefits of physical activity,
time outdoors, literacy, art, community and
family time. Picnic tables and waste receptacles
are in good supply and there is even a portapotty! Visit our donor garden and take a peek
at all those who made this park possible. The
Port Williams Park – built by the community for
all to enjoy.

**Fit for Life
What is “Fit for Life”?
This is a program oriented toward developing healthy lifestyles. Main focus is weight and stress management. Program has an educational component, goal setting, measurement and coaching for success. Basis for this program is developed by the U.S. Navy in assisting their members in
moving to healthier lifestyles.
About our Instructors:
Christina Campbell took her Yoga Teacher Training at Sol Yoga and became 200 hour certified in May, 2012. Christina has taught Vinyasa Flow
classes regularly since her certification. Her relaxed teaching style and easy going personality has helped to make her classes incredibly popular!
We’re very happy to have her back again this fall! Christina teaches Yoga on Thursday evenings at the Louis Millett Complex.
Eve Dier is introducing a new program this fall. “Fit as a Fiddle: Mobility” will be similar to the ongoing morning classes, but it is designed for those
seniors with a physical disability, that may find it difficult to keep up with a regular fitness program or who may be confined to a wheel chair. The
classes will run every Tuesday and Thursday at 11:15 a.m. Eve is a certified senior fitness instructor and has been running her popular classes for over
two years now. Not only is she lots of fun, but she plays great music too! We’re excited to have her back!
Gary Ross is a health fitness specialist, certified yoga and tai chi teacher and a certified wellness coach, and the newest
member of our team. Gary has returned to the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia after living and working in California for
the past 15 years. We’re extremely happy to welcome Gary aboard for our 2014/15 season! Gary teaches Easy Morning
Hatha Yoga, Chair Yoga, Tai Chi and Fit For Life.

The new 4X bike track. 4X (pronounced
4 cross) is a form of mountain bike racing
that combines elements of BMX racing with
mountain biking. The course for Kentville’s
Burgher Hill was specially designed with riders
of all ages and abilities in mind. The track
includes features like bridges, a rock garden,
rollers, berms and jumps. A raised start ramp
helps riders get off to a fast start!
The track is an awesome addition to Kentville’s
line-up of recreation facilities and has already
generated buzz within the mountain bike
community. Riders are reminded that helmets
are required at all times for this course.
Sledding enthusiasts needn’t worry as the track
only takes up a portion of the east side of the
hill. A large area of the hill was reserved as
a “sledding zone” in the site plan from the
beginning.
