of the Mayor….
“CONCERTS UNDER THE STARS”!
Usually the Month of August means the summer is ending but in
Hillside, IT IS JUST BEGINNING! Our “Concerts Under the
Stars” are going to be fantastic. We have a lineup
scheduled that will be the “Talk of the Town”. All Concerts are
held at the Hillside Commons, Hillside and Washington Avenues
from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. Remember to bring your lawn chairs,
coolers and dancing shoes. Food will be available for purchase.
More information is in this issue of the “Happenings”.
Listed below are the dates and bands that are scheduled to
perform...so sit back and enjoy “the beginning of summer”!

GOODBYE TRUSTEE BIBLY
On July 1st, Trustee Carol Bibly resigned from the Village Board to
spend more time with her Children and Grandchildren. Carol has
been a Trustee for 17 years and has served as Chairman on the
Community Affairs Committee and Chairman of the Public Works
Department. Carol was extremely active in the Hillside Historical
Society. She taught at Triton College for over 40 years and her
enthusiasm for our community was outstanding. Carol was involved
in Baseball, was a former board member of Hillside School
District #93 and a board member of the Hillside-Berkeley Chamber
of Commerce. As Carol stated “I have enjoyed my time on the

Board and hope that in a small way, have made an impact on the
lives of people associated with the Village. Working with each of you and the community as
a whole has been an adventure. I will always hold a special place in my heart for the
Hillside Community”. Yes, Carol has made a positive impact on our Community. She
was an outstanding and hardworking Trustee and we were privileged to have her for 17
years. Enjoy retirement Carol, and we wish you well in all of your future endeavors!
Congressman Danny Davis 7th District Berkeley/Hillside Town Hall Meeting
Congressman Danny K. Davis, will be holding a Town Hall Meeting for residents of
Berkeley and Hillside on Tuesday, August 13th starting at 7:00pm at the
Village of Berkeley in their Council Chambers, 5819 Electric Avenue in Berkeley. The
agenda will include...Affordable Care Act, Jobs and the Economy, Middle East/Afghanistan,
Education, NSA Surveillance, Immigration and any other issue residents
are concerned about. Congressman Davis invites all interested residents
to discuss these vital issues.
Town Hall Meetings are “Democracy In Action”.

5K with the 5-0
ANTHONY RAYMOND F.O.P. MEMORIAL RUN
We are happy to announce the 3rd Annual Anthony Raymond FOP Memorial Run “5K with the 5-0”!
On Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 8:30am, we invite everyone to join us for this fun 5K Run/Walk event in
our very own Hillside. Come and support the Anthony Raymond Lodge of the F.O.P. as they raise
money for a scholarship benefiting a Proviso West Senior that will pursue a career in Law Enforcement
after graduation. Registration for the race has started.

registration form. Please also check the CARARUN website. If you have any questions regarding this terrific event,

SKECHERS OUTLET STORE GRAND OPENING
Visit the newest SKECHERS Outlet Store in the Hillside Town Center on Saturday,
August 10th for the official “Ribbon Cutting Ceremony” at 9:30AM. The first
50 customers will receive a FREE SKECHERS water bottle. Giveaways,
entertainment, face painting, promotions, and more will take place all weekend.
Save during the SKECHERS 1/2 off 2nd pair Back-to-School sales. SKECHERS offers
lifestyle and performance footwear for men, women and kids. As their motto goes,
“Caution: SKECHERS NOT LIABLE FOR SLEEPWALKING”! We welcome SKECHERS to our Hillside Business

FROM PUBLIC WORKS AND BUILDING SERVICES
BRANCH REMOVAL FOR AUGUST
Branch removal for August will be the week of August 5th through August 9th . Make sure branches are on the
parkway Sunday, August 4th and leave them there until they are removed. We will not return once a street has
been completed. September pick-up will be the 9th through the 14th. Please place branches out September 8th.
STREET SWEEPING
Street sweeping is scheduled for the weeks of August 5th-August 9th and August 19th-August 23rd . Please refrain
from parking on the streets from 6:00am until 4:30pm during these dates.
50/50 SIDEWALK PROGRAM
The Village offers the public sidewalk program to all residents that want to replace damaged sidewalk squares
under the “50/50” program. If this is something you are interested in, please call Public Works at (708) 202-3434
to schedule an appointment to assess the sidewalk condition. We will leave a contract for the recommended
repairs/replacement with the total cost to you, which you would sign and be required to pay prior to scheduling
with our contractor. This work takes place two (2) times per year, typically in the months of June and November.
Feel free to call with any questions you may have.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT AND PUBLIC WORKS SERVICES INFORMATION
A Home Inspection is required if you are planning to sell your home. Please call to get information or come in to the
Village Hall between the hours of 7:00am and 3:30pm to answer all your questions and be informed about selling your
property. A Sewer Connection Inspection is required for all commercial property selling in the Village. Please call for all
the information. Permits are required for all work performed by a resident and/or contractor. You may obtain applications
at the front counter of the Village Hall. All contractors doing work in Hillside must be licensed and bonded with the Village
of Hillside. Call the Public Works and Building Services Department at (708) 202-3434 if you have any questions.
COMMUNITY CELEBRATION, SATURDAY, AUGUST 24TH
The Hillside Human Relations Commission is hosting a Summer Event celebrating our active,
diverse community. Please join us on Saturday, August 24th from 3:00pm to 8:00pm in the
Courtyard of the Hillside Village Hall, 425 Hillside Avenue. This fun-filled event will have the
great music of Keith Robinson and the BMW Jazz Ensemble. Along with the beautiful music,
there will be vendors providing giveaways, and important information regarding education and
finance. Our Baseball Organization will have food available for purchase or just bring your own. More
information will be on the Village Website www-hillside-il.org and at the August “Concerts Under the Stars”.
We look forward to your participation and celebrating our community!

make our village an outstanding place to raise children and grandchildren. It has always been our goal to provide not only quality
service to our residents, but also quality activities and events for all ages. Once again we are going to make August an
unforgettable month, so get out those “lawn chairs” or just take a seat on our bleachers…because it is CONCERT TIME! Our
FREE “CONCERT UNDER THE STARS” are being held on the 4 Tuesdays this month. The place to be is the Hillside Commons,
located at Hillside and Washington Avenues. All concerts start at 7:30pm and end at approximately 9:00pm. There will be food
available for purchase or you can bring your own. So get ready to sit back, relax and enjoy some great entertainment.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 6TH 7th heaven
This band is an experience you just have to see and hear! 7th heaven has
charted #1 on the Midwest Billboard Charts twice in the past two years and
has been heard on over 7 radio stations in Chicagoland with their hits
“Better This Way” and “Sing”. Also known for the famous “30 songs in 30
Minutes” (a medley of songs from the 70’s and 80’s), 7th heaven has been
an entertainment staple for 28 years. This year 7th heaven welcomes
Anthony Fedorov, who is known for being a Top 4 FINALIST ON SEASON 4
OF “AMERICAN IDOL”. What is a GREAT way to start our Sizzling August!
TUESDAY, AUGUST 13TH SUBURBAN COWBOYS
The Suburban Cowboys are the Ultimate Country Cover Band! This
explosive show is designed for country fans that LOVE to dance! The set
list covers your top 40 country songs as well as some classic country jams
and is full of ENERGY and EXCITEMENT. The band features a talented
lineup including one of the Midwest’s hottest fiddle players, 5 part vocal
harmony, ripping guitars and a killer rhythm section! Suburban Cowboys
has been on the scene since 2010 and have been a part of huge country
fests such as COUNTRY THUNDER! “Git Yer Country Ready” for this night!

HOLD ON TO YOUR HATS, HILLSIDE...THE “GENTS” ARE BACK IN TOWN!
The Gentlemen of Leisure is a 15 piece Show Band and Review
affectionately known as the “Gents”. They offer a musical smorgasbord to
sate even the most discrete of palates. From Top 40 to the Standards, from
Jazz to Hip-Hop, from Polka to Motown, they do it All! The “Gents” have
played for President Obama, Hillary Clinton and Michael Jordan and they
are considered to be Chicago’s Premier band with dynamic quality and
class. Their music is fabulous and their showmanship is spectacular.
Oh what a night this will be!

Award-winning recording and performing artists since 1995, entertaining
across the country and abroad, the Moods are a singing group consisting of
four guys dedicated to the fine art of harmony and choreography. They are
known for their vocal style, but are equally accomplished in theater and on
the big screen. They have performed with The Temptations, The Spinners,
Mary Wells, the late Bernie Mac, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and more!
Imagine the sounds of Lou Rawls, Al Green and the late Barry White and
you get the fabulous sound of The Moods. They will leave you wanting
more and continue to WOW audiences wherever they perform. We are so
happy to have them back in Hillside!
