for these seasoned 4-Her’s. Please send their names to
Lori [email protected]. The information
we will need includes:
Name of Older Adult
Address
Nominators Name & Club
Names are needed by
Friday November 21st!
Thank you for your assistance in helping
us identify these individuals!
Hello Hollar Here,
I would like to thank the following clubs for allowing me to join your 4-H club meetings
over the past month: Beaver Center/Jolly Workers
Clover Patch Kids
Loyal Lads & Lassies
Maplewood Badgers
Reseburg Ramblers
Thorp Pine Valley
I have enjoyed being part of the awesome energy all the youth and adults exude! I wanted to check in and make sure your back is no longer sore, you have a belt that fits, and
your bottom is now firmly planted. For the clubs that I have not visited, you will soon
understand. For the clubs I have visited “NO TELLING”.
Thank you for sharing tasks, programs, and events with me that I am supposed to be
“making happen”. That may sound silly, however without your help I would not have
known about the Volleyball and Softball Tournaments, Drama Fest, and some other minor details. Thank you for the many suggestions some I can tackle, some are put on the
“I will get there list”, and others are more challenging and have a few more layers of
muck to wade through. My Thanksgiving blessing is all of you!

Wisconsin Pork Association Offers Scholarships
The Wisconsin Pork Association is offering scholarships to high school
seniors and college students. Students with a sincere interest in the swine
industry are encouraged to apply.
Wisconsin Pork Association Scholarship
The Wisconsin Pork Association scholarship is open to high school seniors pursuing post high school education in agriculture. Preference will be
given to those students possessing leadership abilities and a sincere interest in the swine industry. Five finalists will be selected from the applications received to compete for the $500
scholarship, with each finalist receiving $250 for their participation. An interviewing committee will select finalists. The application for this scholarship is posted on www.wppa.org.

The Whitmore Memorial Scholarship was established as a legacy to the late Rex Whitmore, a master statesman
and communicator who served as the first executive director of the Wisconsin Pork Producers Association.
Applicants must be a registered junior or senior at one of the following University of Wisconsin campuses: Madison, Platteville, or River Falls. This is a $500 scholarship, and priority will be given to applicants pursuing an Animal Science or closely related major, with each finalist receiving $250 for their participation.
The criteria considerations include grade point average (applicant should be in top one-third of class), extracurricular activities involvement and leadership positions, career interest and orientation, and financial need.
Gunderson Memorial Scholarship
The Wisconsin Pork Association, in cooperation with the family of Buell Gunderson, has established a scholarship program to recognize the many contributions that Gunderson made to the Wisconsin pork industry.
Gunderson, together with his wife, Bernice, served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Wisconsin Pork Association
for 20 plus years and assisted in growing the organization from its initial roots to the successful organization that
it is today--sponsoring scholarships, developing youth programs and helping to support the pork producers of
the state.
The Wisconsin Pork Association will accept recommendations or applications from county pork producer
organizations, industry members, pork producers, and colleges or technical schools for recipients of the Gunderson Memorial Scholarship on an annual basis. Individuals who have shown considerable dedication and involvement in the pork industry will be considered for the $500 scholarship.

Individuals wishing to receive a copy of the scholarship applications can contact Wisconsin Pork Association at
608-723-7551 or via e-mail at [email protected]. Applications can also be downloaded at www.wppa.org.The

Tractor and Farm Safety Camp
Does your son or daughter work on a farm during the summer? Do you hire youth to work for you during the year? Do
these young people have adequate safety training? Accidents cause more deaths to individuals between the ages of 15 and
24 than all other causes combined. To help reduce accidents, a Tractor & Farm Safety Camp is being coordinated by UWExtension Manitowoc County.
The camp will focus on the safety aspects of operating farm equipment and daily farm tasks.
To complete the course, youth must attend all sessions and pass a written and a driving exam. Certificates will be issued by the Manitowoc County UW-Extension office following successful completion of course. For more information and/or to obtain a registration brochure
please visit www.manitowoc.uwex.edu.
The camp will be held at Camp TaPaWingo and will begin on Friday evening, November 14 and end on Sunday afternoon, November 16. Camp TaPaWingo is located at 915 West TaPaWingo Road, Mishicot, Wisconsin. Cost for the
camp is $195 and includes lodging, meals, training materials, and 24 hours of instruction.

Tip for November:
Using backlighting can help create a "separation
light" on your subject, helping it stand out.
Balance it with some soft front-lighting to highlight the face or front of your subject.
Learn more about this on November 18th!

Old Business:
 Food stand Recap: Presented by Peggy Erickson and Alan Buchholz. Getting supplies was a challenge as we had a
new meat supplier. The hot water heater will need to be replaced and we will be looking to recoup 1/3 of the cost
from the HCE. There was a problem with the walk-in cooler on the last day but was fixed. Two of the chest freezers
died these were used to store pizza and ice pops. They would also like to add a new counter top. The inspector did
have some questions regarding sinks etc. Overall there was good participation from clubs. It was asked that leaders
stress the importance of participation to their clubs and remind the kids who gets the money. A new tent for out front
is needed and would run approximately $1,500. For the upcoming year a new food supplier is being looked for and
prices may need to be raised. Peggy will be stepping down and Joanne Buchholz and Terri Schultz will be filling her
position. The Leaders Federation thanked her for her many years of service and presented her with a gift.
