Child's Name_____________________Birthdate______
Participate in our classes and special events and
have some fun with other families this winter! Our
staff is looking forward to greeting your family at
School Readiness, ECFE classes and BLT classes. Look
for more information on Building Language Together,
abbreviated as BLT and EBLT, later in the newsletter.
Preschool registration 2016-17, on April 18, is
important to attend if you want to apply for a
scholarship. Usually, one or more of our classes fill up
that night.
Register for the Spring Field Trip to the metro area
early because our busses have a limited number of
seats. We are traveling to The Works Museum and
Chutes and Ladders Playground. At the Museum,
“curious kids can touch, try, and explore on the exhibit
floor, and take on engineering design challenges in the
Design Lab. Activities engage kids in S.T.E.M (Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Math)”
Sincerely,
Peggy Starz, Early Childhood Ed. Coordinator

Using a Problem-Solving
Approach With Your Child
Children can learn social skills by using a problemsolving approach. Instead of telling children what and
what not to do, and why, children as early as age four
and learn to tell us what and what not to do, and why—
if they have the skills.

FEES WAIVED
ECFE Classes are offered to all parents and preschool
children free of charge if finances are a problem.
When you register, check waive fee. No one will be
turned away for inability to pay.
The problem-solving approach turns statements into
questions. For example, instead of telling your child to:
“Ask nicely for the toy,” ask, “What can you do or say
so your brother will let you play with his truck?”
Sometimes that’s all a parent needs to ask.
Another approach to telling a child, “I feel angry when.
. .,” would be to ask your child, “How do you think I feel
when.?” These examples of statements involve your
child in a genuine two-way conversation.
With this two-way conversation, in order
to respond to the question asked, the
child must also learn to listen. This is a
problem-solving approach because it
requires the child to participate.

CENSUS
Are you new to our district and have a 0-4 year old?
Have you recently had a new baby?
Is there a new addition to your family?
ACGC Community Education keeps current records on the
number of 0-4 year old children in our school district.
These numbers are used:
To determine how much state aid we get for our Early
Childhood Programs.
To create a mailing list to send this brochure twice a
year to all of the parents of the children identified in
the 0-4 year old age group.
To determine an estimated number of children who will
be entering kindergarten each fall.
Call the District Office at 857-2271 to let us know of new children
to add to our census. We appreciate all your help in keeping our
list of children and families up to date!

Matter of balance is an evidenced based program to help
older adults stay independent.
Many older adults experience a
fear of falling and then often
limit their activities. This may
result in muscle weakness and a
greater risk of falling. Matter of
Balance is designed to help reduce the fear of falling
and increase activity levels among older adults. This
is a free class but you must call and register.

Youth Activities
1. Scoring Three games to 25 points (must win by two) with a cap
of 30 points.
2. Each hit must be definite meaning the ball cannot roll off
or remain in contact with your hand for a discernable
moment (carry). You may play the ball with any part of
your body including kicking it.
3. Play with six - minimum 4. In Co-Rec, if the ball is hit
more than once on a side, one hit must be made by a
woman. The number of men on the court may never be
more than one above the number of women.
4. Substitutions must be made at the same location for the
entire match (ex. after serving) on a rotational basis.
You may not switch positions after the serve
in the recreational leagues.
5. A serve which contacts the net but goes over is a legal
serve. A ball which strikes the ceiling or basketball backboard may be played on the same side from which it was
hit but is dead if it crosses the net. A ball striking net
antenna is dead immediately. You may serve anywhere
behind the back line of the court. A serve may be set
without being bumped. No serve may be blocked or
attacked.
6. In Co-Rec only, a back row player may help block but
they may not make an offensive play above the net. They
may pass to a teammate.
7. A player who touches the net will not result in either a
point or side out unless it interferes with the
play. Interfering includes touching the top band of the
net or the antenna while attempting to play the ball
(blocking or hitting).
8. Players may only reach over the net during a block
attempt or follow through on a spike. Players cannot
interfere with the opponent's attempt to set up a play
until ball breaks the plane above the net. Your foot may
not completely cross the centerline. For safety reasons
always attempt to keep your feet on your side of the
centerline.
9. A player can only play on team of the co-rec
league. Their name can appear on only one
roster for the league.
10. Teams arriving after start time forfeit the first game of
the match. Teams arriving more than fifteen minutes late
forfeit the entire match. Please make every attempt to
start on time!
11. Rule interpretations for volleyball shall be based on the
State High School rule book. A copy of the rules are
available but this copy may not be removed from the
building.

Band Lessons
for
5th - 12th Graders
Holly Dybsetter is a notable prior music teacher of ten
years in Montana. She has many accomplishments
including but not limiting to receiving a "Mr. Holland's
Opus" grant of $10,000 for instruments in 2009, her
band has received a superior rating at festival, has
brought her band of ten to over forty students in her
ten years of teaching. She taught at a very small
school in Montana where there was only 120 students
K-12. Holly was raised in New Ulm, went to college at
South Dakota State University where she received a
Bachelor of Music Education Degree. Holly then
moved out to Montana, because she loves the mountains. Just the past summer she decided she wanted
to be closer to family so she moved back to Minnesota,
and chose Litchfield. She wants to still have music in
her life, so she has decided to put her love of music into
giving lessons to students. You can contact Holly
