Portrait of Davos Klosters
The holiday region Davos Klosters combines a comprehensive range of summer events and activities with an urban quality of
life. Over 700 km of well-tended rambling trails and challenging hiking routes open up the romantic side valleys and highalpine scenery. Amongst bikers, Davos Klosters is regarded as a single-trail paradise.
Davos has around 13,000 residents and is a pulsating cosmos full of contrasts. A sports paradise, health spa, business centre and cultural metropolis in one against the backdrop of breathtaking mountain scenery. Europe‘s highest town is a place
of a thousand possibilities. Over 100 restaurants and bars, cinema and theatre, museums and exhibitions guarantee an urban
ambience.
Klosters is also a holiday resort for gourmets! The Walser town has retained its discrete character and appeals to an international public seeking an exclusive holiday. Davos and Klosters merged in 2008 to become a single holiday resort. Since then,
they have grown to become a strong tourism unit. In summer, you can all take advantage of "Davos Klosters Inclusive", which
allows you to use all six cable cars and public transport free of charge. The "Families welcome" seal of quality applies to the
entire resort.

Waterskilift for wakeboarders - The launch of WakeWeeks on Lake Davos
WakeWeeks will be held for the first time on Lake Davos, ideal for the summer holiday season, from 2 July to 21 August
2016. Watersports enthusiasts can also look forward to a new lift that now makes the sport accessible to beginners as
well. That‘s only one thing left to hope for: let‘s wake the summer!

Kite-surfing is also possible - The latest sporting craze on Lake Davos, blessed with constant
wind
Lake Davos is popular with sailors and surfers because of its constant wind. From 11:00 am in the morning, the Wolfgang
wind from the north blows at two to three on the Beaufort scale, which is why the mountain lake is also recommended for
more advanced kite-surfers. Kite-surfers can now also use the lake, although not during the peak season between 2 July
and 21 August 2016.

Expansion of the Davos Färich Bike Park - Practise slope for free-riders
Free-riders can use a bike park suitable for all mountain bikers free of charge at the Adventure Park Davos Färich. The
recently extended bike park will open at the very latest in July 2016. The park now features a table line for beginners and
a dirt line with gaps for advanced riders, as well as two interconnected pump tracks and a skills course. Riding ability is
irrelevant here with the existing elements, such as tables, pump track and jumps – the routes are set up to ensure that
both beginners and advanced riders are guaranteed to have hours of fun. The different elements make it easier for bikers
to assess their skills and improve them. What do we say again? That‘s right....practice makes perfect!

New family bike route in Klosters
A new bike route will open in Klosters this summer, which is designed for children, parents and even grandparents. All
along a route of approximately 7 kilometres, seven different adventure areas are currently being created, which will
playfully teach prospective bikers how to cope with different ground conditions and various types of obstacles. The Family
Trail starts at Klosters Sports Centre and heads via Monbiel up to the entrance to the Vereina Valley and it is hoped that
it will open in August.

Bike-Shuttle - Individual transport service for mountain bikers
The new bike shuttle will now transport mountain bikers to even more starting points in the countryside around Davos. It
operates from spring through to autumn - from 1 May to the first fall of snow. Bikers agree a meeting point and times with
the shuttle service. This can also be done at short notice. Each journey within the Davos region costs 10 Swiss francs per
person. Other journeys in the region are possible, with prices being given on request. Interested bikers can register at
Kessler‘s Kulm Hotel, Davos Wolfgang Tel. +41 81 417 07 07.

Playground in the Davos Kurpark is extended
The children‘s playground covering some 3‘000 m² in the Davos Kurpark has been extended and refurbished. "Parkwald"
is the theme of the new playground. The area is surrounded by parking areas and dense woodland, hence the link to the
"forest" theme. The new "Squirrel", "Hedgehog" and "Fox‘s Burrow" elements relate to the inhabitants of the forest. The
wooden "Albatros" aeroplane is reminiscent of the era of pioneering aviators. Walter Mittelholzer landed on Lake Davos in
1932. A small airport operated between 1933 and 1950 in the western part of what is the golf course today with regular
flights to Paris and later with Swissair to Zurich.

Madrisa Land is redesigned
The adventure park will be closed during the summer of 2016 due to construction work
During the summer of 2016, the "Madrisa Land" is being given a makeover with a number of different changes. As the planned
projects involve extensive construction work, the "Madrisa Land" will remain closed during the summer of 2016. The Madrisabahn
cable car and the Madrisa-Hof will both remain open. Klosters Madrisa-Bahn AG was acquired in autumn 2014 by a Swiss
investment group. In August 2015, the Madrisa was released from the Association of Davos Klosters Cable Cars AG. A capital
increase of CHF 11 million formed the basis for the necessary investment, including the refurbishment of the Madrisa Land park.

The Küblis bypass will officially open on 30 June 2016
After eight years of construction, the 3.4 km-long Küblis bypass will finally open to traffic on 30 June. The bypass starts
at the Landquart Bridge to the west of Küblis and heads to the main structure of the bypass route, the Küblis Tunnel. The
2,255 metre-long tunnel connects the west portal in Dalvazza to the east portal in Prada. From there, it continues via what
is known as the Saaserstutz to the Saas West junction. The bypass only saves a few minutes of driving time, but in the
busy summer and winter months, traffic tails back through Küblis and the bypass now takes the pressure off the pretty
Prättigau village. This will be celebrated on 2 July 2016 with a huge opening party in Küblis.
This marks the completion of the third large bypass project on the 34 km-long A 28 trunk road between Landquart and
Klosters. The 11.4 km-long Saas bypass opened in the autumn of 2011 and the 14.8 km-long Klosters bypass at the start
of December 2005.

Spenglers Davos: Grand opening in December 16
Spenglers is the new Alexander. The Alexanderhaus has a long tradition in Davos. It was built in 1882 in the centre of
Davos by the founder of the spa Alexander Spengler. The former Alexanderhaus Hospital has been managed in recent
years as the Hotel Alexander Davos. This summer it is being fundamentally redesigned and rebuilt. In December 2016,
it will re-open as the new 4-star "Spenglers Davos" hotel. It will have 80 bedrooms and suites following the renovation.
There will also be 60 - 100 m² holiday apartments with kitchen. The restaurant will feature a large sun-kissed terrace.
The Spenglers Chapel – the former Alexander Church – will be used for events. Two rooms measuring 100 – 180 m² are
available for conferences with space for up to 150 people. The large spa and wellness zone with swimming pool, jacuzzi,
saunas, beauty and fitness areas, extends over two floors and will be open to both hotel and day visitors.

"The Inn" – Re-opening
The traditional "Mon Repos" is now under new management
The former "Mon Repos" will be known as "Das Inn" and managed by Benno Wiederkehr and Sabina Fuchs. "Das Inn" is
aimed primarily at individual travellers. As an "Inn", guests can take advantage of all the benefits and amenities of a hotel
with appropriate services in the rooms, but there will no longer be meals throughout the day. The hotel will only be serving
a hearty breakfast buffet and a small evening buffet. "Das Inn" has over 47 rooms and an impressively spacious and
exciting architectural style no longer common today. In 1908 the hotel was built as the Hotel Continental; between 1919
- 1924 it was known as the Pension Solsana, and then as the Hotel Savoy. In 1942 it was renamed the Consul BurchardHaus and served as a Nazi German Consulate during the Second World War. After the war it was confiscated by the Swiss
Confederation but was then returned to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1952. It opened as a spa in 1957 and was
then operated as a "Mon Repos" for the German Army between 1960 and 2015, where members of the German Federal
Armed Forces could spend an inexpensive holiday. The real estate company Mettler2Invest bought the property in 2015
and it has continued to be operated as "Das Inn" since December 2015.

New gastronomic highlights in the Morosani Hotels
Two restaurants will surprise and inspire their guests
Two new restaurants offer plenty of variety at the Morosani Hotels: firstly the DAMORO, an exceptional Italian restaurant
in the Morosani Schweizerhof. Secondly the Pöstli Grill, which, as its name suggests, is a grill restaurant with an open-air
kitchen and open-end nights in the Morosani Posthotel. The DAMORO - no pizza - is run by an Italian chef and combines
rustic elegance with modern Italian flair. The Pöstli Grill is the go-to destination for meat-eaters in a wonderfully pleasant
and stylish atmosphere. Not forgetting the exciting sauces offered for every type of meat and fish. And of course, the
hotel‘s wine cellar is stocked full of the most scintillating wines for every dish.

Davos Festival – young artists in concert
The festival is a „family zone“ from 6 to 20 August 2016
"Family zone" is the theme of the 2016 festival, as music is an art form that uniquely speaks of belonging, family and kinship.
Mother chord, key relationship and instrument families are all terms from the world of music. Schubert‘s favourite opera was
on the theme of the "Swiss Family". This year‘s composer in residence, Valentin Silvestrov, wrote touching dedications to his
family. Felix Mendelssohn could compose faster at the kitchen table than others could cook. 80 young and extremely talented
musicians from around the world will seek the traces of family in over 50 concerts. The festival programme is enhanced by
many other free events, such as communal singing, children‘s concerts and talks, concert introductions, young reporters etc.

International Sculpture Symposium Davos
For the twelfth time, international artists will come together between 17 and 24 July 2016
During the International Sculpture Symposium, the lawn by Lake Seehofseeli in Davos Village is turned into a huge openair studio. This symposium has become a firm part of the Davos Summer of Culture. Every year, art enthusiasts, artists
and visitors are drawn to this event. It is always fascinating to watch how tree trunks, boulders, metal, glass or plaster are
turned into concrete or abstract works of art and installations. Art becomes an experience when the artists and visitors
start mingling. The topic of the 2016 symposium is: "Man is expected to face the truth. Within these limits, we have directed
our gaze to the perfect, the impossible, the unattainable, whether love, freedom or any pure variable. We expand our
possibilities by contrasting the impossible with the possible." Based on the acceptance speech by Ingeborg Bachmann at the
presentation of the War Blinded Audio Play Prize presented to her in 1959 for the audio play "The Good God of Manhattan."

Everything Kirchner! The Museum as a Cabinet of Wonder
Exhibition from 5 June to 7 November 2016
The exhibition entitled "Everything Kirchner! The Museum as a Cabinet of Wonder" hopes to offer a visually challenging
showcase of the world‘s most comprehensive and unique Kirchner collection. The exhibition deals with the question of the
value of the original and showcases objects, which affected Kirchner and that he created. It bridges the gap between contact relics to the gun that Kirchner used to shoot himself. It deals with the aura of artefacts, finds, objects and documents
that relate to the personality of the artist. The exhibition also analyses "Who was Louis de Marsalle?" and deals with the
question of Kirchner‘s alter-ego, which nevertheless occupied his contemporaries for 13 years and practised very original
marketing of Kirchner‘s work.

From cow bells to chapel bells
Special exhibition at the Davos Local History Museum from 7 June to 16 October 2016
The special exhibition deals with music through the ages in Davos: dulcimer were played here, as were harps. In the early
days in Davos, music ranged from cow bells to chapel bells, from the sounds and chants of the Walser mountain folk to
the concerts in the village chapel. Davos Local History Museum showcases a number of objects primarily relating to folk
music in this exhibition (including the original double bass belonging to the 19th century Swiss folk group Fränzli–Musig
and a viola da gamba belonging to Hanneli Christen).

Guaranteed wind in Davos
Lake Davos is considered to be one of the Swiss lakes with virtually guaranteed wind
Lake Davos (1‘559 m above sea level) is a key leisure and recreational space in the Davos region. The surface of the lake
measures 0.59 km², it is 1.5 km in length (north east to south west), around 0.5 km wide and has a perimeter of 3.8 km.
In summer, the lake is the go-to place for water sports fanatics: make the most of sailing, surfing, pedalos or just lazing
on the beach in the heart of the mountains. The lake is regarded as having guaranteed wind, with the Wolfgang wind from
the north to north-east blowing from almost daily at 11 o‘clock every morning at two to three on the Beaufort scale. The
water temperature rises during the summer months to around 20 degrees Celsius.

Climbing fun for the young and not-so-young
Before you are let loose, you will be given an introduction to key safety techniques by one of the park’s attendants. Then
you‘re off on your own and can move independently around the six courses, swinging from one platform to the next. The
high-wire park is divided into different levels of difficulty. There is a specially secured course for children in which they
can learn how to rope climb from tree to tree. The twelve-metre high pendulum on which visitors float between heaven
and earth is the toughest challenge of all. Children under the age of 12 are only permitted to enter the high-wire park
accompanied by an adult. The park is open from July to October.
Adventure Park Färich now offers an exciting and varied playground for children. It is suitable for children of all ages and
provides an alternative when kids want a change from the climbing harnesses in the high-ropes park.

Schlappin Valley: follow in the footsteps of smugglers
Hundreds of years ago, a lively trade flourished between the valleys of Montafon and Prättigau. When the national

across the border is freely accessible and holds unique nature experiences and exciting stories! You will hike over two
days on historic paths at an altitude of between 1,900 and 2,600 metres. A GPS device guides you through the alpine
landscape and leads you to the secrets of the smugglers. In the evening, you will exchange thrilling stories over a delicious
smugglers’ dinner and sleep in rustic mountain accommodation. The round trip is a great experience for both young
and old. All you need is a minimum level of fitness as well as curiosity and a passion for exploring things! The route
is designed to include approximately four hours of hiking per day and is suitable for children from the age of nine.

Outlook
New Cross-country Ski Centre in Davos
We anticipate that the new centre will open in November 2016
The Davos Cross-country Ski Centre built in 1973 will be dismantled during the summer and replaced by a new two-floor
building. The timber construction on the ground floor will feature a lounge with kitchen/cold room, equipment rooms,
washroom, toilets, cloakrooms, ski school counter and storage space for the piste-basher vehicles. The first floor will
house a gym and fitness room, a massage room, more cloakrooms, meeting room and rooms for the national Swiss Ski
Team Association and for the local ski club youth organisation. The basement will house the plant rooms and stores. The
outside space is sub-divided into a covered seating area and an uncovered entrance area. A separately accessed, singlestorey kindergarten building adjoins the centre. Parking for the Cross-country Ski Centre will be available in the garage
of an adjacent private building. Davos is a national Swiss Ski cross-country training hub and the only place in Switzerland to host World Cup races annually.

Extended snow-farming - The cross-country trail is being extended to around 4 km
Snow-farming – the over-summering of snow – was extended in autumn 2015 with the construction of a new infrastructure. Three times the volume of snow was produced and stored during the winter of 2015/16. This over-summered snow
will be used in late-autumn 2016 to create a 4 km-long cross-country trail in the lower Flüela Valley. A charge will be
made as a contribution to the cost of this additional trail. A charge will only be made for this trail and only during the
month of November. The entire cross-country ski network of 120 km can continue to be used free of charge throughout
the remaining season. It is worth noting that the snow-farmed cross-country trail will be reserved for elite athletes during certain times of the day. The World Cup cross-country trail in the Flüela Valley will also be improved and its artificial
snow-making expanded. This will seriously improve conditions for World Cup racing as part of the Davos Nordic event.

Laser-controlled chairlift
New 6-seater chairlift on the Madrisa
A new "Schaffürggli" 6-seater chairlift will be built for the coming winter season in the Madrisa ski arena. The 1'860 metrelong chairlift will cover an elevation of 510 metres. It will transport 2,600 people per hour thanks to its speed of 5 m/s.
Unique in Switzerland, the seat height of the chair will be controlled. A laser scans passengers and determines whether they
are adults or children. The hydraulic control adjusts the seat height perfectly so that even smaller „ski racers“ can safely get
onto the chairlift. A rising bar ensures that smaller children can no longer slide out. And finally a hood lowers automatically
to protect skiers from the cold and bad weather. The chairlift also has heated seats. Ski sledges (wheelchair users in special
winter sports equipment) can also be transported.
