The
Lord is risen! As Christ's disciples,
we are called to go forth and spread the
good news of His Resurrection. Our
parish's
many ministries are examples of
how
many of you answer that call. Our
ministries
require not only gifts of time
and
talent,
but also of financial help.
Please prayerfully consider supporting
St. Laurence Catholic Church by using
safe
and efficient electronic donations
through
Faith Direct. You may sign up
online
at www.faithdirect.net using
our
church code TX 460 or mail in an
enrollment form from the parish office.

O Lord, the news speaks ever louder
of exclusion, of competition for
limited resources and jobs, of people
allowed in or kept outside borders and
communities. Our human minds focus
on limits and what we think is possible.
But you ask us to be open to mercy and
faith. You ask us to trust your promise
that if we seek to do your will, you will
give us the means to accomplish it.

Answerstoyourquestionsfromthe
CatechismoftheCatholicChurch.
Q. Is globalization exclusively a
matterofpoliticsandeconomics?
A. There used to be the idea of a
division of labor: economics should be
concerned about increasing wealth, and
politics should be concerned about
distributing it justly. In the age of
globalization, however, profits are
obtainedglobally,whilepoliticstoagreat
extent is still limited within national
boundaries. Therefore, what is needed
today is not just the strengthening of
transnationalpoliticalinstitutions,butalso
the initiatives of individuals and social
groupsthatareactiveeconomicallyinthe
poorerregionsoftheworld,notprimarily
for the sake of profit, but rather out of a
spirit of solidarity and love. The market
and the State are necessary, but so is a
strongcivilsociety.Inamarket,products
and services are exchanged for goods
havingthesamevalue.Inmanyregionsof
this world, however, the people are so
poor that they cannot offer anything in
exchangeandthereforecontinuetobeleft
behind. So there is a need for economic
initiativesthataredefined,notbythelogic
ofexchange,butratherbythelogicofthe
unconditionalgift(PopeBenedictXVI,CiV).
