ife will be starting all over again
as the graduates of Two Hills
School embark on a new adventure following their last days of school.
The graduation ceremonies held on
Friday, June 24 were filled with beautifully dressed ladies and dapper looking
young men as the Town of Two Hills

celebrated the accomplishments of the
class of twelve graduates.
The theme for this year’s celebrations was “Life starts all over again,”
as told in the story The Great Gatsby
by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and the theme
was carried throughout the afternoon
in each of the messages to the students.
Students Meghan Kereliuk and
Nathen Palsitt served as MCs for the
afternoon ceremonies following the
singing of the national anthem, and
Principal Cindy Kotelko gave her message to the class.

for the students of the graduating class of New Myrnam School on
Saturday, June 25 at the school gymnasium. This year’s theme was ‘Here
For A Good Time’ and it was evident
they have truly enjoyed their time
spent at New Myrnam.

only crowd before the grand march of
graduates.
The students heard from School
Board trustee Ms. Deb Pederson who
asked the students to listen to their
intuition and instructed them that if
it “feels good in your heart” let those
choices guide them.
Mr. Keith Gamblin gave his principal’s address and commended the
class for being a group that could always be counted on and were passionate about getting projects done. He
thanked the graduates for their hard
work in making New Myrnam School
a better place for all students.
“As staff we say goodbye, but this
is not the end of our journey with you
students,” said Principal Gamblin.
“We will always be here to help in
your lives away from New Myrnam
School.”

For Upcoming Film

casting crew was in Vegreville looking for some local talent to fill roles
in an upcoming movie, set to be filmed in Vegreville later this summer
and into the fall. Chris Rurka and his crew had movie star hopefuls
read lines in hopes of filling the roles in the movie. Rurka and his crew were
also the casting company responsible for filling some of the extra positions used
in the movie Cut Bank, which was partially filmed in the Village of Innisfree

Jennifer Doerksen and Wendy
Jackson for sharing their farm animals with the residents. Thank you
to Ainsley Bader for bringing her
pony and cart for an extra treat for
the residents.

the sunshine and enjoyed their
lunch outside.

AGM on Monday June 20 at the
Millennium Building. Some of the highlights of the 2015-16 year are as follows:
Volunteering at the library – sorting,
labeling, cataloging, shelving books,
completing light janitorial duties and
assisting with library programs when
needed.
Fundraising – VIL raised over $4,000
for programming and attained Registered Charity Status.
Promoting – assisting wherever
needed to promote programs and services offered.

RADD Founder Featured
In Documentary PSA
enaye Wade, founder of Renaye Against Distracted Driving (RADD) and
brain injury survivor, will be featured in a short documentary on her recovery from a collision on March 15, 2013 which nearly claimed her life.
The documentary will serve as a public service announcement (PSA) for the City
of Edmonton’s traffic safety department and will be available to view on the City’s
website later this summer.
Innisfree Students Suggest
Mural For Village

ome students of Innisfree Delnorte School made a special presentation to
the members of the Village Council last week before the commencement of
summer break. Students in the 2014-2015 Grade 1/2 class felt they would
like to see the village have a mural so the set to work creating what they thought
would best depict life around the community of Innisfree. Local photographer
Naomi Melnyk offered her services to help take the final product and put the
photo to canvas. The students presented the mural titled “Our Town,” to council
members and asked them to consider installing a mural somewhere within the

(VIL) is proud to announce that
we will be offering our community members free library cards. Join us
at our Fifth Anniversary Celebration
July 6 for cake and refreshments and

We are very excited to welcome our
Summer Student Hailey Lancaster to

hello and meet her. While you’re here,
check out the new books and movies
we’ve gotten in – Fiction such as the
newest Danielle Steel ‘The 5th Wave’
(Young Adult) and ‘The Looking Book’
for preschool readers.
Hailey, along with sisters Leah and
Kristin Bergman will be hard at work
planning our Summer Reading Program. We can’t wait for the program to
begin. This year’s theme is ‘Wild’ and
the girls will have some great games,
crafts, stories and snacks for each of the
six days. July 13 can’t come fast enough
for our eager team or the youngsters
that participate in the program. This
year we will also be welcoming special
guests Sprinkles the Clown and Mr.
Wayne Ashton, Storyteller Extraordinaire!
Our Summer Reading Program runs
for two hours and is free to all children
aged 3 and up. Please note that children 3-5 must be accompanied by someone who is 12 years or older. Please call

The VIL has set up a ‘Little Library’ at the Innisfree Recreation Park for
visitors to swap their books for a new read. The Little Library was a joint
effort by library members and is free to use.

Irma Ag Society Working To Keep Farm Families Safe
he Irma Ag Society is hoping to
make farms a little bit safer for
families as the organization held
its annual Farm Safety day on Thursday, June 23. The Grade 1 to 6 Irma
students, as well as the Holt Colony
children, were in attendance for the educational day but adults were also encouraged to attend.
Seven safety presentations stations
were offered and included everything
from underground utility safety, fire,
animal, firearm and machinery safety.
An interesting presentation was on
“Bee Keeping And Making Honey” by
Kent and Tanya Ford of Lazy Bee Honey. The duo gave information on safety
around bee hives, why bees are so important to the environment and also
the process of making honey.
Sheldon Archibald, a School Board
Trustee and local rancher, talked to
the children about animal safety and
the importance of being cautious when
working around animals.
Kelly Pauls and Breanna McClarty of
Battle River Power Coop talked about
the importance of knowing where the
power lines are and what happens
when machinery comes in contact with
dangerous overhead lines.
The day was sponsored by a number
of organizations as well as the Irma Ag
Society, all with the common goal of
keeping farm families safe by educating
them about the dangers of rural living
and providing information on how to

She said although the graduating
class consisted of only six original classmates, as students joined the class from
year to year, each of them shifted the
dynamics of the group. She referred to
their new beginning as that of a story
and told the students as they move forward, they will meet many new people.
“There are always new beginnings in
life. Enjoy the future and meeting new
characters,” said Principal Kotelko.
“Listen to your inner voice and go forward in being kind and compassionate
people.”
St. Paul Education School Board
Trustee Ruven Rajoo gave his message
and said that as a father of three children himself, he knows firsthand the
work that goes into teaching and guid-
ing students. He also said he knows
what each parent entrusts with each
teacher and all they do for each child to
set their path of direction in life.
“Dare to dream bold and set your
goals high,” said Trustee Rajoo. “You’ve
been given the tools now seize the moment.”
Deputy Mayor for the Town of Two
Hills Sonny Rajoo suggested to the student that they are the centerpiece of a
mosaic for the community. He said the
staff and parents have played a monumental role in the education of the students.
“You are living in exciting times,”
Said Deputy Mayor Rajoo. “Don’t waste
your talents. Surround yourselves with
positive people. Keep your feet on the
ground and shoot for the moon.”
“You have achieved so much knowl-
edge,” said County of Two Hills Reeve
Allen Sayler.
Reeve Sayler told the students they
can proceed with confidence, well-prepared for the future in a wavering and
uncertain economy.
“You can make a difference to your
lives and those around you,” Sayler
said. “You have all made us proud.”
Students Braden Kowbel and Ryan
Semeniuk reflected on their years of
education at Two Hills School and how
each of their teachers had contributed
to their education as their tribute to the
teachers.
A few awards were handed out during
the graduation exercises. Aurora Tupechka was asked to step forward and
accept the Premier Citizenship award
for her conduct as a student of Two
Hills School. She would also accept the
female athletics award as Brandon Bernhardt, Austin Lavallee and Sheldon
Skoropadyk were awarded the male
athletics commendations.
Class Valedictorian Aurora Tupechka addressed her fellow classmates and
said although the teachers and parents have taught them very valuable
lessons, they will make mistakes from
time to time. However, mistakes are
important to learn from and “make us
wiser.”
“We are young and have our whole
lives ahead of us,” said Tupechka. “High
school was the best times of our lives.
Things get a lot harder from here.”
Following the power point presentation, Principal Cindy Kotelko made the
presentation of diplomas to each of the
graduates before heading to the Centennial Hall for the evening banquet.

Classic Cars Showcased At The Garage Grand Opening
The Hayduk family hosted the official grand opening of
The Garage on June 25 at its location along Highway

egreville’s newest car
enthusiast hot spot is
officially open for business as The Garage hosted
its grand opening on June 25.
Owned by Myron Hayduk, the
family-run business invited
the public in for a glimpse of
the numerous unusual vehicles
on display as well as for purchase.
The Garage has been prepping for the grand opening for
over a year, and daughter Amy
Hayduk says the original plan
for the building was not exactly how it turned out.
“My dad needed more space
for his growing car collection so
we decided this building would
work great,” said Amy.
The idea of opening up the
unique retro-style car lot
came from Myron’s extensive
car collection of more than
60 vehicles, which outgrew
its previous storage capacity.

Garage store front and the Red
Cup Distillery offered samples
of its craft-brewed liquor.

here are some major changes underway at New Myrnam School
for the upcoming school year.
The Village of Myrnam, in partnership
with St. Paul Education Regional Division, have started construction on a
Construction Trades Education Centre.
The centre will be used by the school
and community to teach junior and
high school students a variety of trades,
including:
• Construction and Carpentry, including large scale construction projects such as sheds, greenhouses and
houses.
• Metal work/fabrication/welding
with stick and MIG welders, as well as
a plasma cutter.
• Furniture making
• Cabinet making
Phase one of the New Myrnam
School CTEC program is anticipated
to be ready for the start of the 201617 school year. In the first phase, an
addition to our existing shop will be
in place to allow for larger scale construction projects. The new construction area will also include a vented
paint room. Instruction will focus on

carpentry, welding, furniture and cabinet making, and any other trades that
may be in demand.

Lampburg School students
gathered for their annual picnic
on June 21 at the old school just north
of Ranfurly, Alberta.
The school was originally built in
1921 and served as the learning centre for homesteaders’ children, then
was renovated in 1975, and now
serves as a community centre for area
residents.
Lampburg Community Centre president Ron Osinchuk said the picnic is
a great way for area residents to get
together and remember former students and their days spent at Lampburg School.
The evening was a bit cold and
dampened by a few showers sifting
through the area but that did not stop
the hot dog roast. The fire pit was lit
and the roasted hot dogs were passed
through the very same window which
former student Bill Guglick jumped
out of as a student. That daring feat
is remembered with awe and laughter
each year.
Although Bill has passed away, along
with most of the students of Lampburg,
their memories and love for the old
building live on through their families
and community members.
The Lampburg community members also hold a corn roast at the
school each year and it is scheduled
for later this summer.

n June 21 the Happy Days Playgroup had its final get together before
taking a break for the summer. They celebrated by going to the Vegreville
Spray Park and having a picnic lunch. The playgroup is held every Thursday from September to June in the old Ranfurly School. The group will return the
first Thursday in September and organizers say they hope to see some new faces.
