The Money Dance
It isn’t that
money can
buy happiness. It’s that
the lack of
moola can
create a boat
load of stress.
By Patricia Boswell,
M.A., NCC
I have often held
my breath due to
lack of funds, as have most of my
friends and family members. Not
having enough bread, whatever
enough means to you, is stomach
achy scary.
After my divorce I decided that I
needed to change my relationship
with money. I knew if I was going to
make it on my own financially I had
to take a look at what was not working, just like I had done with my ailing marriage. Over time, and with a
discerning eye, it was clear: money
and I needed some couples counseling.
So, one night, with a bottle of wine,
steamed shrimp, cocktail sauce and
chocolate for dessert, I sat myself
and money down on the couch. We
spent the evening reacquainting ourselves with one another. We painfully sorted through everything, especially what was coming in and what
was going out.
What made this evening so memorable is that money and I became very
clear we both needed more from
each other. I needed money to help
me have more adventures in my life,
and money needed me to be paying
more attention to it.
So we began, awkwardly at first, like
dancing with a new partner, to develop our rhythm.
This meant learning several new
steps. I had to look at long held family dysfunctions concerning finances.
I had to treat myself and money with
respect…every day. This meant making responsible money choices. At
least once a month I needed to spend

Reflexology
More than a Good Foot Rub!
By Robin Lazor, BA, MT, CR
I love a great foot rub as much as
anyone, but a trained reflexologist uses unique and beneficial
techniques that offer so much
more. Seeing both feet as a map
of the body, reflexologists apply
pressure with thumbs and fingers
to stimulate reflex points on the
foot’s “map,” that correspond to
organs, glands and other parts of
the body. This stimulation helps
to relax and bring balance to your
body systems, improve circulation, and promote better health.
Footwork has been used in the
healing arts for thousands of
years in cultures all over the
world. The term “Reflexology”
was first used in the United States

therapy.
“How can you spend the
entire time working just
on a person’s feet?”
When making an appointment
seek a trained reflexologist
who has studied with a reputable reflexology program. During the session as the reflexologist presses on the reflex points
there may be some tenderness as
stress is worked out of the area.
A good practitioner will adjust
their touch pressure to your comfort.
As I mentioned, a foot massage
feels good but a true reflexology
session incorporates techniques
to stimulate and relax body systems. It’s a great way to improve
health and support your well being.

Genetically Modified Foods
[Part 2 of 2]
Are they Safe?
When an insect bites into a GM corn
or cotton plant, it gets a mouthful of a
built-in toxin, produced by every cell
of the plant. Inserted genes produce
an insect-killing pesticide called Bttoxin in every cell of these GM plants.
The poison splits open the bug's stomach and kills them. The bizarre thing is
that these GM plants are registered as
pesticides with the EPA!
More than 50% of the crops developed by biotechnology companies
have been engineered to be resistant
to herbicides. Use of these herbicideresistant crops will lead to a threefold increase in the use of herbicides,

David Mortell Article ~ Cont. from Pg. 3
If you are as concerned about GM foods as I am,
you will want to know how to protect yourself and
your loved ones from these dangerous products.
As much as is possible, buy organic food. Almost
all organic-labeled foods are GMO-free. ( Yes, organic foods are more expensive, but in the long
run they are cheaper because they are healthier
for you and the planet!). Support local organic
farmers by buying at farmer's markets or joining a
CSA.
Pittsburgh has a lot of organic farms. Take advantage. Make sure you eat 100% grass-fed meats
and pastured poultry and eggs. When you garden,
make sure your seeds and plants are also organic,
or at least non-GMO. There's a great website
www.nongmoshoppingguide.com that gives detailed information about how to buy safely.
To your continued good health!
