Is God Knocking on the Door to Your Heart?
Pray & Reflect – July 24, 17th Sunday of Ordinary Time: The Lord in His wisdom invites us out of our
complacency. Come! He will lead us more deeply into the mystery of discipleship so that we may follow Him
with steadfast faithfulness. Our days are meant to be united to God in prayer – persevere and choose to
nurture the presence of God within you. Ask…Seek…Find. Ask yourself: Does my prayer life reflect
perseverance? Am I ready to ask Jesus to teach me to pray? The LPMI offers contemporary educa on and
ongoing faith forma on. Our skilled instructors include a variety of priests, deacons and laity who are ac ve
in ministerial roles in our diocese. The ini al segment of the program, the LPMI Year of Discernment,
consists of eight Saturday sessions from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. The classes meet at Christ the King Parish,

KEEP PRAYING
St. Monica, whose feast we celebrate in August, is o en known as "the persistent mother." She
watched her oldest son, Augus ne, turn his back on his Chris an faith.
Monica was exasperated. For years she gave up talking directly to her son on the advice of a local
bishop, who told her that it was be er to talk to God about Augus ne then to Augus ne about God.
The mother never gave up praying for her son. Eventually Augus ne gave up his wild ways, was
bap zed, and later ordained and named bishop of Hippo. St. Augus ne went on to become one of
the Church's greatest scholars.
Today's readings address the importance of persistent prayer. Abraham, in spite of trepida on that
he is bothering the Lord, con nues to ask about the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah. Jesus, in Luke's
Gospel, tells his disciples to "ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will
be opened to you" (Luke 11:9). This is our charge: keep praying.
