BRAZIL GOES BANANAS FOR MIDAS® HERITAGE™ 1000
Brazil (October 2003): One of Brazil’s most successful bands, Chiclete com
Banana, has recently purchased a Midas Heritage 1000 as part of their
powerful mobile PA set-up. The “Trio Eletrico” in which the console is installed
is a development unique to Brazil and a concept that Chiclete com Banana
helped to formulate. Midas’s Brazilian distributor, Henry Spong of Libor
(honored with a lifetime achievement award from Klark Teknik at the recent
Telex Pro Audio Group distributor conference in Italy), explained:
“Chiclete com Banana are legends in the Brazilian music scene. They’ve
been going since 1980 and, many gold and platinum discs later, are still just
as popular now. The band were keen to find a way to bring their music to
the people and so ended up being key elements in the development of the
modern “Trio Eletrico” which is essentially a large truck with a stage mounted
on the top and walls of loudspeakers built into the sides. Unique to Brazil the
Trio (below) is a complete powerful mobile PA system that was originally
designed for the huge street carnivals that are so popular here, but is now
used for many open air events.”
Henry continued, “The latest Trio constructed by Chiclete com Banana
(which actually means chewing gum and banana!) was christened
Tiranossauro Rex (below), and this is the truck for which sound engineer
Wilson Silva specified the Heritage 1000. He’d seen the desk in action with a
PA rental company and was very impressed with the sound and the
automation system. Its compact frame size was a further bonus, as space
inside the truck is limited. I’m pleased to say that once the desk was
installed, Wilson and the band were even more delighted with the results.
He said it was the first time since 1980 they’d had a console which delivered
the sound quality they’d always dreamed of as well as being clean and free
from interference.”
The introduction of the Midas Heritage 1000 console was a landmark event
for audio professionals everywhere. The Heritage 1000 brings the
unmistakable sound and legendary engineering quality of the Midas brand in
a light and compact modular frame. Its sophisticated automation (like a mini
XL4) makes it suitable for a variety of applications, but especially for theatres
where space is often at a premium. On top of this, Midas' Heritage Theatre
Control software allows sound designers the option of creating hundreds of
scene snapshots in the comfort of their own home before rehearsals have
even started. The standard 8-way matrix, which can be fed from auxiliaries,
groups and masters, can be expanded to suit the largest zoning
requirements.
The Heritage 1000 also enables traditional Midas customers to use their
preferred brand of console for their smaller events, or even link to existing
stocks of Heritage consoles for big, complex shows where large numbers of
inputs are required (matrix outputs can be swapped for inputs). For smaller
rental companies, the Heritage 1000 is the perfect vehicle for introducing
Midas values and performance to a more price-sensitive area of the market.
