ST. URSULA’S E-ACT
ACADEMY
From The Principal
!
We have had a great start to 2015 this term what with our OFSTED report, some
wonderful class assemblies and some fantastic topic work from all classes.
!
Well done to class 1SB who performed a wonderful assembly to parents on Thursday
all about different jobs and what they would like to be when they grow up.
!
Well done to everyone who collected coins for the Polio Mile Challenge, we had a super
response from the pupils with this. The coins are being laid out at The Mall, Cribbs
Causeway on Saturday 21st February so you may like to pop up and see if they
reached their mile target!
!
The Year 2 cake sale was an enormous success this afternoon, there were so many
excited children and parents keen to buy the amazing assortment of cakes. Thank you
to Caroline and the parents who helped.
!
Next term will see a few small changes in Year 2 with LSA cover. This is for a number
of reasons including professional development, experience and a range of different
needs.

Bristol Polio Mile Challenge
!
A huge thank you to everyone that brought in
their strips of coins for the Bristol Rotary Polio
Challenge.
!
Because of your generosity 2,700 children can be
vaccinated against this terrible disease.
!
On the 21st February between 11-3pm all of the
strips collected in Bristol will be laid out at Cribbs
Causeway to see if it reaches a mile!
!
Well done to you all.
!
Class 1SB Assembly
!
On Thursday Class 1SB put on an assembly
to family and friends. The children described
Florence Nightingales’ job as a nurse and
some children re-enacted the story of her life,
which was turned into a green screen
production and shown on the big projector.
Some children showed their skills as weather
reporters and everyone told us what job they
would like to do when they grew up.
!
We have some budding rock stars, vets, lego
sellers, builders, firemen and gymnasts to
name but a few in the class, so watch this
space!
!
Well done 1SB, you did a fantastic job at
learning your lines and saying them clearly
and confidently.

Bonjour! News about French learning at
St Ursula's E-ACT
!
The Reception children have made a great
start to learning French at school. They
have enjoyed greeting our French mascot,
Gaston, with a friendly 'Bonjour' song and
learning how to introduce themselves in
French -'Je m'appelle...'. I am very proud
of how well they have mastered numbers,
counting up to ten in French. A highlight of
this term has been singing 'La tête, les
épaules...' song ('Head, shoulders, knees
and toes') and learning French words for
different parts of the body.
!
In Years 2 to 6 our French topic for term 3
was 'food'. We all began the term by
learning about the French tradition of the
'galette des rois'. Year 2 then focused on
learning French words for different food
items. We especially enjoyed singing 'Cinq
tartelettes dans la pâtisserie' and playing
the 'what's in the bag?' food game. In Year
3 we have been thinking about food likes
and dislikes, while in Years 4 and 5 we
have been designing our own French cafe
menus. The Year 6 children have been
learning about food shopping. They
enjoyed role playing a visit to different
French food shops, setting up 'shops' in
the classroom with play food, asking for
the food items in French and paying in
Euros!
!

Bon travail - good work everyone!

Year 1 Visitors
!
On Thursday afternoon, year one had some visitors from the world of work to talk about their jobs.
!
We had some plumbers who showed us the tools they use everyday, what they do and the children
then had to have a go at being plumbers themselves by getting water out of a pipe maze in the
playground. Only a few got their feet wet!
!
We had a nurse who explained to us how nurses helped people get better. She showed us how to
wrap wounds in bandages, take our blood pressure and take our temperature.
!
We also had a radio producer who brought in his furry microphone! He explained how he records his
voice and sends it to the radio to be heard by millions of people across the UK. He showed us how
to change the speed of voices recorded and the children then practised recording weather reports.
!
The children listened carefully, asked some thoughtful questions and had a fun and informative
afternoon.
!
Thank you to all our visitors for giving up their time to come an talk to us.
