Industrial Revolution Invention
Students pretend to be an inventor during the Industrial Revolution.
(They must take on the persona of a real inventor from the time
period and use a real invention.) Their task is to market their new
invention using either a poster or a brochure.

I use the Research Record Sheets because it clearly shows the
students what is required of them for their research. It’s also a
great way to check on their progress, review note-taking skills, and
ensure that the students will not “copy & paste” from the internet.

Industrial Revolution Invention
You are an inventor during the Industrial Revolution and you have just
invented a fabulous new product. Your job is to market your invention
and let people know how wonderful it is and how helpful it will be to
their lives. Develop a brochure or poster to market your product.
(Project will be based on a real inventor and real invention)
Your project MUST include the following information:

Inventor Biography
 Who are you? Where and when were you born?
 What do you look like? Include a picture.
 Are there any interesting facts about yourself?
 Have you invented anything else?
 Why are you a great inventor of the Industrial Revolution?

Invention Description
 What did you invent?
 What is it used for?
 What advantages does it have over previous technologies?
 Who will benefit from your invention?
 What does it look like? Include a picture.

Invention Sales Information (be creative with this section)
 What is your company name? (Ex. Happy Hargreaves Spinning Jenny Co.)
 What is your company logo? Slogan?
 Where can people purchase the invention? Where is your company
located?
 Who should buy this invention?
 How much does this product cost? Are there different models?

Customer Testimonials
 Include at least two testimonials from two happy customers.
 Example— “I don’t know what I’d do without the Spinning Jenny, my factory
is able to produce three times more wool than we could without it! - Mr.
Roger Smith, Woolly Mammoth Wools, London.”

Research Record
 Please include your Research Record with your project.
 Use the Research Record to write down notes (point form) as you research
the inventor and invention
 Add more paper / research notes if necessary
 Remember—all work must be in your own words
