V. Using Electronic Health Record
for Reimbursement
Course covers the use of electronic health
record (EHR) for clinical functions such as
entering any medical history, recording physical
exam, assessment, creating a plan of treatment,
requesting and receiving lab results, requesting

list of medication, diagnosis list and any other
clinical related information for the patient care
and services.
An example of this would be calculating outof-pocket costs for the patient on a scheduled
service based on the type of insurance carrier
he has. An information management system
provides coverage amounts, covered services
and deductible and copay requirements, so
someone accessing a patient’s record would
automatically know whether a particular test is
covered, how much of the cost is covered and
how much to bill the patient.
