TT2005 - International Society for Transgenic Technologies
TT2005 6th Transgenic Technology Meeting 11-13 September 2005, Barcelona, Spain Auditorium of Sant Joan de Déu / Hotel Abba Garden TT2005 6th Transgenic Technology Meeting TT2005 - Barcelona Barcelona, 11 September 2005 Dear participant, Welcome to Barcelona! On behalf of the TT2005 Organising Committee, I thank you for coming to Barcelona and I wish you a pleasant and fruitful stay in Barcelona during these days. This will be the sixth Transgenic Technology (TT) meeting organised to date, and the first one going to Southern Europe. In the next pages you can find some information regarding the past and current TT meetings. We have carefully prepared a scientific and technical program that we hope will be enjoyable for all of you, scientists and technicians. We have invited a mixture of leading scientists and experienced professionals within the animal transgenesis field, aiming to discuss the latest advances and developments and the current state-of-the-art in the area. The TT2005 meeting in Barcelona has been possible thanks to the commitment of the two organising institutions: the Barcelona Science Park (Parc Científic de Barcelona, PCB, Barcelona) and the National Centre of Biotechnology (Centro Nacional de Biotecnología, CNB, Madrid). In addition, we have obtained the support of 8 public institutions and 23 private companies, all of which have kindly agreed to sponsor the TT2005 meeting. In this participant’s meeting booklet, you will find the latest information, the final TT2005 program, the full list of participants and the collection of additional abstracts that will be presented at this meeting, which could not be included in the distributed August issue of the scientific journal Transgenic Research. Lastly, I would like to recommend you to spare some time, before or after the meeting, to visit the beautiful city of Barcelona. Please, spend some time looking around and enjoying some of the wide tourist offer, including: the “Eixample”, the original square-shape distribution of buildings genuinely devised by I. Cerdà in the XIX century, the modernist architecture buildings and parks designed by Antoni Gaudi, the old (gothic) district, the beach(es) and all the promenades by the Mediterranean sea, museums (Picasso, Miro, Modern Art, History, …), the Olympic areas from Barcelona-92, the fountains of Montjuïc…. We thank you once again for coming to Barcelona and for your interest in the TT2005 meeting. Warmest regards, Lluís Montoliu TT2005 Organising Committee, Chair 2 www.cnb.uam.es/~tt2005/ TT2005 6th Transgenic Technology Meeting (TT2005) 11-13 September 2005, Barcelona, Spain Auditorium of Sant Joan de Déu / Hotel Abba Garden (Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, HSJD, Barcelona) TT2005 Organising Committee: Lluís Montoliu (CNB-CSIC, Madrid) Johannes Wilbertz (Karolinska Institutet, KCTT, Stockholm) Nelson Khoo (Umeå University) Sagrario Ortega (CNIO, Madrid) Belén Pintado (INIA, Madrid) Anna Pujol (CBATEG, UAB, Barcelona) Mariona Arbonés (CRG, Barcelona) MªCarmen Muñoz (PCB, Barcelona) TT2005 Meeting Secretariat: Stella Grimpa (PCB, Barcelona) Susana Ayerdi (CNB-CSIC, Madrid) TT2005 Organising Institutions: Parc Científic de Barcelona (Barcelona Science Park, PCB) [www.pcb.es] Centro Nacional de Biotecnología (CNB-CSIC, Madrid) [www.cnb.uam.es] www.cnb.uam.es/~tt2005/ 3 TT2005 TT2005 Sponsoring Institutions: Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia (MEC) [www.mec.es] Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) [www.csic.es] Fundación Genoma España [www.gen-es.org] Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) [www.uab.es] Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas (CNIO, Madrid) [www.cnio.es] Centre de Regulació Genòmica (CRG, Barcelona) [www.crg.es] Sociedad Española de Bioquímica y Biología Molecular (SEBBM) [sebbm.bq.ub.es] Sociedad Española para las Ciencias del Animal de Laboratorio (SECAL) [www.secal.es] 4 www.cnb.uam.es/~tt2005/ TT2005 TT2005 Sponsoring Companies: Springer / Transgenic Research [www.springeronline.com] Charles River Laboratories España S.A. These Transgenic Technology (TT) meetings originated in 1998, thanks to the pioneering initiative of Johannes Wilbertz (Karolinska Center for Transgene Technologies, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm) who brought together a range of important topics which are not usually addressed in other mouse meetings. That Scandinavian initiative was very well received by the mouse-community, readily becoming first a European and then finally evolving into one of the key International meetings where all professionals interested in the production and the analysis of transgenic animals can meet and openly discuss new methods, their specific problems, offer solutions and propose imaginative and innovative strategies for the future. The uniqueness focus of a balanced combination of excellent scientific presentations and most valuable technical discussions by leading experts in the field are interesting both to scientists responsible for the analysis of newly created animal models and to qualified technicians directly engaged in the generation of transgenic animals.
