MUMBAI: Videocon d2h has announced a Golden Goal offer during the Fifa World Cup currently underway in South Africa.
Under this Golden Pack Offer, on the purchase of every Videocon d2h Satellite Box & Satellite DVD during the offer period, customers would get 4
months Gold Sports Pack free. The Gold Sports Pack offers the maximum number of sports channels including ESPN and Star Sports and will make
the football viewing experience special for customers during the World Cup.
Prior to the start of the Fifa World Cup, various DTH companies have launched offers around the mega event. Dish TV has tied up with ESPN Star
Sports to give the sports channels of ESS free on the new HD set top boxes, to drive sales of its HD platform and expand its old DTH subscriber base
as well as push its new technology platform as much as possible, for it is a known fact that the higher the resolution the better it is for watching
sporting events.
Dish TV will show the matches in HD, a service it started on 27 May, and will continue telecasts in that format for the Commonwealth Games and the

cricket World Cup, according to reports.
Taking a cue from Dish, TataSky also came out with an offer of providing free ESPN Star Sports during the duration of the Cup.
Sun Direct is also offering ESPN and Star Sports free to new subscribers in Kerala and West Bengal, but its existing subscribers will have to pay a
special price of Rs 40 (plus taxes) from 5 June to 12 July, the company said. The month-long tournament’s final is on 11 July.
The Reliance-Anil Dhirubhai Ambani’s Group’s DTH arm Reliance Big TV Ltd, with 7.3 million subscribers, is negotiating with ESPN-Star Sports for
high-definition (HD) content and drawing up similar promotional plans, market reports suggest.
Bharti Airtel Ltd is offering DTH connections at an initial Rs 1,590 that includes 75 days of free viewing of ESS channels.
There are 21-23 million DTH subscribers in India while the sector’s revenue is in the region of Rs 30 billion. According to research and consultancy

firm Media Partners Asia Ltd, DTH subscribers stood at a net installed base of 17 million in 2009 and will reach 45 million by 2014 and 58 million by
2020.
