Greetings to the participants, organizers and guests of the Congress.
This is the first time that our country hosts such a prestigious Congress. We appreciate the
implicit acknowledgement of the valuable contributions of Russian scientists, obstetricians,
neonatologists, specialists, and health professionals in perinatal medicine, maternal, and
child health care.
Today, large-scale regional programs creating high-tech perinatal centers and developing
effective methods for the care of mothers and children from the first hours of life onwards is
becoming a reality in Russia. A major priority is education, training, and skill acquisition
with the goal of improving medical care and implementing an effective preventive strategy
in our healthcare system. Our country is interested in establishing a healthcare system with
the highest standards of excellence worldwide.
I am confident that the World Congress of Perinatal Medicine will be an important milestone
event in the life of the professional community, promote the exchange of medical and
scientific advances, improve practice, and assist in the implementation and improvement of
the quality of perinatal care in Russia and abroad.

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
Perinatal Medicine will be a key discipline of the 21st century. It is now clear that optimal
development during the fetal and neonatal period determines health and propensity to disease –
not only during pregnancy and the first 28 days of life, but also during adult life.
Therefore, our 11th World Congress of Perinatal Medicine (WCPM), here in Moscow, is a great
opportunity to become acquainted with the cutting-edge developments in our discipline.
Our World Congresses have broad scope and depth, and are attended by Obstetricians,
Pediatricians, Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialists, Neonatologists, Scientists in Perinatal
Medicine, Nurses, Midwives, Genetic Counselors, Nutritionists, Geneticists and many others. I
am confide t that members of each sub-discipline will find interesting and novel presentations in
our upcoming Congress.
The WCPM has been a focal point for discussion of the most recent advances that affect the care
of pregnant women and their newborns. We have worked to generate a program that will focus
on the most challenging problems of perinatal medicine, and have invited faculty who are not only
experts in their fields but have the talent to deliver clear and informative lectures. Moreover, the
Congress is a means to stimulate the exchange of information across specialties required for our
discipline to progress.
Perinatal Medicine in developing countries is very much on our minds; hence, we will have specific
sessions devoted to the specific challenges to our discipline in di ferent parts of the world.
We are delighted to have selected Moscow, Russia as the venue for this World Congress. The
city and country have captured the fascination of the world, and I am confident that you will enjoy
not only the medicine and science at the Congress, but also, the cultural experience provided by
Russian music, ballet, literature, architecture, and humanities in general.

Ladies and gentlemen, colleagues!
It’s a great pleasure to receive all participants of the 11th World Congress of Perinatal Medicine
on the hospitable Russian land!
This long-awaited forum unites the best representatives of science and practice in maternal and
child health care of our country and of all the five continents of the world. The 11th World
Congress of Perinatal Medicine is a podium where the results achieved and the issues still
unresolved will be discussed as well as the ways of their joint and broad implementation.
The importance of this congress is confirmed by the support of the President and Government
of the Russian Federation, because this large-scale forum promotes the solving of demographic
problems in our country.
We are confident that all congress presentations on diagnosis and treatment in obstetrics and
neonatology will contain specific recommendations referring to improvement of the demographic
situation, implementation of new methods of treatment, aimed to increase the quality and
accessibility of family medicine, from the very origin of human life.
The congress will contribute to further development of perinatal medicine, modernization
and science in healthcare system, will improve the quality of maternal and child health care,
preservation and recovery of reproductive health in our modern world.
