Our Mission Statement
Holy Spirit is a community of believers that aspires to be formed by
the values of the Gospel and finds its strength in coming together
to celebrate Eucharist and to be transformed into the Body of
Christ. As a Eucharistic People, we who are being nourished must
share the bread we have with others, wash the feet of our brothers
and sisters and welcome all who come, as Christ Himself.

September 26/27 bulletin
deadline is Monday,

Brothers and Sisters: The time has come to
revitalize our Adoration Chapel. We would like to
prepare by praying a novena using the prayer of
Consecration to Our Lady of the Blessed
Sacrament. We will say this prayer together
every Sunday for the next nine Sundays. As we
pray, let us reflect and consider our own time
and the value of sacrificing an hour a week to be
with our Lord.
Eucharistic Adoration is praying before the Real Presence of Christ,
the body and blood, soul and divinity of Jesus. Perpetual Adoration is
when parishioners unite in taking hours of prayer before the Most
Blessed Sacrament, exposed in a monstrance, both during the day
and throughout the night, seven days a week.
““Adoration is essentially an embrace with Jesus in which I say to Him:
“I am yours, and I ask you, please stay with me always.””
Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.
CONSECRATION TO OUR LADY OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
Most Holy Mother Mary, New Eve and
Spouse of the Holy Spirit,
I entrust and consecrate my life and vocation
to your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart,
May I be a tiny spark which shoots forth from
the Blazing Furnace of your Beautiful Heart,
to enkindle in this world the fire of love
for Jesus Eucharistic.
May His Innocent Blood continue to
plead for our salvation
in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar,
May His Eucharistic Light pierce the
darkness of our minds,
May His Eucharistic Power heal and
transform the lives broken by sin,
May His Eucharistic Love bring
unity and peace to the Church,
And through your maternal and
queenly intercession may the Lord Jesus Christ
take up His Eucharistic Reign of holiness
and love in every human heart. Amen.
Sing a Joyful Song to the Lord, and while you are at it, share your musical
gifts with our community! We are looking for people who love to sing for the
9 am Ensemble, 10:30 am Choir and 6:30 pm Youthful Spirits groups, as
well as more talented cantors and accompanists. If interested please contact
Denise Slaven at [email protected] or 913-492-7318 #151.
Holy Spirit Parish Needs Ushers! With almost 5,000 people attending
Mass at Holy Spirit each weekend, we could use more Ushers. Our needs are
particularly pressing for the 4:00 pm Saturday and 10:30 am Sunday Masses.
Can't commit to a regular schedule? We can always use volunteers to substitute! Duties include greeting and seating the congregation, taking up the collection, and distributing the weekly Bulletin. Men and women, high school age
and up, who are interested should contact Dan Rohde (913-469-5669 or
[email protected]) for more information.

Box Tops for Education: Clip and save Box Tops from various
products. Each Box Top earns the school 10 cents. For a list visit
www.boxtops4education.com.

DID YOU KNOW THAT WE HAVE
A SISTER PARISH?????
Well, we do and it is Santa Gertrudis, which is located in the city of
Juticalpa in Honduras, Central America. Our good friend, the
retired Bishop Marcus Muldoon was here recently to concelebrate
the first all school Mass of the new year with our Parochial
Administrator Father Tom, much to the delight of the children, who
heard the Bishop talk about the kids and living conditions in the
area.
Accompanying the Bishop was Alberto Valladares the Administrator of the new Catholic Hospital in Catacames, which serves the very poor and indigent of the community.
Shown in the picture to the right, with the Bishop and Alberto is Gary McCoy, one of our parishioners who is
forming a mission team to visit Santa Gertrudis early in the spring of 2016 for 7-10 days. Anyone who is
interested in joining the team to visit Honduras, meet members of our sister parish, see the progress that is
being made through our Safe Water Project and the children’s orphanage should leave their name and
contact information with Rochelle in the church office, 913-492-7318 or [email protected].

August 25, 2015
Dear Fr. Tom and Holy Spirit Parish Community,
Blessing and Abundant Grace to you and to all who are served and are touched by your Parish outreach.
While in Boston assisting an infirmed fellow priest from Honduras, I had the opportunity to meet my former
Bishop, the Most Rev. Marcus Muldoon and he told me about his recent visit to Holy Spirit Parish. He
brought me up to date with our sometimes interrupted relationship with our Sister Parish in Overland Park,
Kansas and the desire of the Pastor and Mission Council to renew the mission interchange.
I too hope that we can continue working together for the good of the Church in general and St. Gertrude’s
Parish in particular. I wish to personally thank you for all the help I received in the past. This past June
Bishop Bonello sent me your gift of $ 2,000.
Over the years your support strongly contributed to both our Parish as well as the social service programs of
our Franciscan Sisters. As Pastor I daily collaborate with the Sisters and support them in their charitable
works. I am also responsible for a large number of small communities (barrios) which surround our Parish
Center in the city of Juticalpa as well as forty distant villages.
In these past two years, with the help of Holy Spirit Parish, I was able to build a small church in the village of
Los Angeles. Presently we are completing an extension to our parish office complex. On a more pastoral
note, your contributions also help to support our monthly catechetical assembles which serve to support
some sixty five Ministers of the Word who are the Church leaders of their mountain communities. These
men and women celebrate the Word of God each Sunday, distribute Holy Communion, prepare their people
for the sacraments and are true community leaders coordinating social action in their villages. They are all
volunteers. Your donation helps with room and board as each month they come to the parish center to
receive permanent formation and coordinate their pastoral activities.
When I return to Honduras next week I plan to send you some electronic photos of some of our parish
activities. And, of course, we will receive with open arms the Parish Group from Holy Spirit who will visit us
early in the year 2016. I look forward to your visit, which will certainly strengthen the ties between our Sister
Parishes.
Fr. Tom, please send our fraternal greetings to Fr. Harry and Fr. Storey and all the good parishioners of Holy
Spirit.
Que Dios les Bendiga Abundantemente,
Padre Celio
