OMAHA LANCERS WEEKLY RELEASE #2
DES MOINES BUCCANEERS @
OMAHA LANCERS - FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3RD
RECAP
Jimmy Schuldt scored twice for the Lancers but that was all the scoring Omaha would get as the Des Moines Buccaneers had two separate players with two
goal night’s en route to a 6-2 win over the Lancers in front of 2,518 fans inside Ralston Arena on Friday night. The Buccaneers took only 1:47 to take the lead
and it came while up a skater. As Bradley Johnson sat in the box a pass came out to Patrik Koch and he let a wrist shot go that sailed from a few feet inside the
blueline. The show went high over the shoulder of goaltender Hayden Hawkey for a quick 1-0 lead. Assists on the Koch goal came from Nikita Pavlychev and
Ryan Dmowski. The Lancers responded at 14:01 of the first period on a great shot by defenseman Jimmy Schuldt. Louie Rowe chipped the puck to Schuldt
who went down the right wing side of the offensive zone. Schuldt played the defender screening his own goalie and rifled a shot by the blocker of Des Moines
goaltender Ryan Ruck to even the score 1-1. Rowe was credited with the first assists while Bradley Johnson received the secondary assist. After one period,
the Lancers outshot Des Moines 19-6. It was all Des Moines in the second frame and it started with a goal at the 5:01 mark. After a Lancers defender fell behind the net, the Buccaneers picked up the loose puck sending it to the front of the crease. Players jammed at the loose change before getting the last touch on
it was Joe Widmar for his first of the season and a 2-1 lead for the Buccaneers. After the Lancers took a penalty, Des Moines picked up their second power-play
goal in as many opportunities. Tanner Karty busted down the right wing circle and fired the puck on the short side going over the shoulder of Hayden Hawkey
with just 5:52 remaining in the period. Patrick Grasso and Ara Nazarian were given the assists on the goal that put the Buccaneers ahead 3-1. Patrik Koch got
on the board again, with his second tally of the night 6:56 into the final period of regulation. From the right point, Koch took a pass from Mark Petaccio and floated a shot above the waist to the net. The shot changed direction and went just under the crossbar giving Des Moines a 4-1 lead. Three skaters had two goal
nights including Jimmy Schuldt who scored both goals for the Lancers in the loss. Schuldt’s second came as he took a drop pass off the stick of Josh French
and snapped the puck quickly by Ryan Ruck in net for Des Moines to split their lead in half at 4-2 with 7:32 left in regulation. That was as close as the Lancers
would get. Tanner Karty scored his second of the evening at 13:33 of the third period and Miha Zajc deflected in a shot from Patrik Koch for a 6-2 lead late in
regulation. The Lancers put 37 shots on net in the loss.
OMAHA LANCERS @
DUBUQUE FIGHTING SAINTS - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4TH
RECAP
Steven Spinner scored the only goal for the Omaha Lancers on Saturday night and Brett Boeing picked up a hat trick for Dubuque as the Fighting Saints took
their home opener 7-1 over the Lancers in front of 2,302 fans inside Mystique Ice Center. It took only 45 seconds for the game to see its first goal. Zack
Zulkanycz moved down the left wing side of the ice looking over to see Shane Kavanagh joining the rush. Kavanagh was hauled down as Zulkanycz sent a pass
across. The puck got deflected and went right back to Zulkanycz who fired it by Hayden Hawkey for a 1-0 lead for Dubuque. Exactly midway through the first
period, the Fighting Saints took a 2-0 lead. With 10 minutes left on the clock, Gordie Green scored his first of the season with the only assist coming from Trey
Dodd. Brett Boeing scored his first of three goals while the Lancers were down a skater nearing the end of the first period. William Lagesson sent a pass on the
blue line over to Boeing who kept his shot on the ice and found a way through traffic and by Hayden Hawkey to move the home team out to a 3-0 lead with only
2:29 left in the period. The second assist was credited to Willie Knierim. Omaha’s only conversion of the night came courtesy of Steven Spinner while on the
power-play with under a minute to go in the first period. Brendan Smith sent a pass from the point down to Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson who looked for options. Forsbacka-Karlsson found Spinner in the left wing circle who fired the shot by goaltender Jacob Nehama to pull the Lancers within a pair of goals from
tying the game. After the first period, Kris Oldham replaced starting goaltender Hayden Hawkey. Dubuque scored the next four goals with two of them coming
in the second period, and two more in the final frame. After Brett Boeing picked up his second goal of the night at 8:03 of the period, and Shane Kavanagh
scored an unassisted goal at 8:18 of the second, the Fighting Saints maintained a 5-1 lead through 40 minutes of action. In the final period, Mitchell Smith made
it a 6-1 game with eight minutes left in regulation and Brett Boeing finished off his hat trick at 15:42 of the final period to seal the 7-1 victory over the Lancers.
