SUMMER OUTDOOR CONCERT SERIES
The 405 Blues Band
Come out for an evening of “the blues”-a purely American art form and the basis of all American music.
Four veteran, professional musicians make up the band: Earl
Shelton (sax, keyboards and vocals) was a member of The
Fatback Band in the „70s and played with Joe Tex, Ben E. King, Patti Labelle
and The Coasters; Bruce Kirshner (guitar & vocals) was a founding member of
The Buzz Dakota Band and has backed up Bo Didley, Freddy Fender, and
Kinky Friedman; Mark Ambrosino (drums) has worked with Ray Charles, Michael McDonald and Koko Taylor; and Lenny Nelson (bass and vocals) has
performed with Ronnie Spector, Roberta Flack, Chuck Berry and many more.
The band will be playing the music of Elmore James, Sonny Boy Williamson,
Earl King, Buster Brown, Howlin‟ Wolf, Little Richard, Jimmy Reed, Wilson
Pickett and many others.

Two Guys & a Gal
The multi-talented trio of Mike, Les and Sara Celina will
perform your favorite Broadway tunes and “standards” to
soothe the soul. Mike has performed in and produced over
50 musical productions; Les is a standup comedian with
many leading roles to his credit; and Sara is a lyric soprano
who has starred in many theatrical productions.
Their revue will include the works of the greatest composers: Rogers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Lowe and Andrew Lloyd Weber.
In addition, you‟re sure to enjoy the songs of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Bobby Darren, Tony Bennett, Celine
Dion and many more.

August Bus Trip: Sag Harbor/ Shelter Island
Travel to picturesque Sag Harbor, the 300-year-old whaling village with the
distinction of having the first Custom House in the U.S., the first volunteer fire
company in N.Y. state and the first newspaper printed on Long Island. A delicious luncheon awaits you at Sag Harbor‟s popular Blue Sky Restaurant, where
you‟ll choose from their seasonal menu.
A short ferry ride will take you over to Shelter Island, where a guide will narrate a one hour tour of this lovely island. Situated snugly between the rural North
and South Forks, the island blends the balanced mix of both areas.
Lulled by the tides of its Peconic, Gardiners and Shelter Island bays, this 8,000
acre paradise offers pristine beaches, historic homes, hideaway inns and gourmet
eateries in a truly unique setting. Another ferry ride will take you back to Sag Harbor, where you may enjoy strolling down the quaint Main Street. Registration begins: Friday, July 15th. A check for $75.00, payable to McCarney Tours is due at

September Bus Trip: Secret Gardens of New York
New York City has some of the most unique and unusual gardens, from the
manicured lesser known French, English and Italian to the individual community
oasis‟ that are hidden behind the cities secret spaces.
Your guided tour will include the Night Before Christmas Garden and continue on throughout the city from its northern most area to the southern elevated
park of Wall Street. You‟ll marvel at the ingenuity of the East Village secret
spaces as well as many others throughout the city., including the newest section of
the Highline just opened to the public! Join us on this most unique journey to
the most hidden gardens of New York.
A delicious luncheon awaits you at Café Espagñol, with a choice of appetizer,
entrée, dessert coffee/tea and a glass of beer, wine, sangria or soda.
What better way to spend a quiet September day before fall sets in! Registration

University will provide free hearing screenings at the library-a simple five minute task! Testing consists of wearing headphones and listening
to multiple tones or beeps. If necessary, a full audiological evaluation will be

Lori Campbell takes you on a trip of a lifetime-from equatorial jungles to the Sahel-remote places in Africa holding
many surprises including colonial history, endangered animals
and strange cultures. Visit equatorial Guinea, now made
wealthy from oil, Gabon with its national parks and variety of wildlife and
the Republic of Congo (our jumping off point for a river tour, sighting elephants and lowland gorillas.) Visit Pygmy villages as well as decorated mud

and John Leguizamo. Mick Haller (McConaughey) is a defense
lawyer who works out of his Lincoln. When a wealthy realtor is
accused of raping a prostitute, Haller is asked to defend him,
and in the process learns that this case might be linked to an
old case of his.

when Carole from R.S. Jones sets up hers on our back lawn!
It‟s about this time of the summer when we all begin to run
out of ideas for outdoor grilling-too much of the same ol‟ same
ol‟.
You‟ll be amazed at the huge grill Carole will set up right on the back lawn!
She‟ll demonstrate as well as explain how you too can create this new grill
menu. Featured will be roasted corn salsa; smoked trout in endive; filled, grilled
Portobello mushrooms; citrus grilled chicken with spicy tomato chutney and
grilled honey-lime fruit with a kick. Bring your lawn chair and your appetite for
tastings. Recipes will be distributed.

Friday, July 15th: Tom Rachman’s novel, The Imperfectionists, a
tongue-in-cheek description of the lives of a group of English language
based newspaper people, is set in Rome and has received critical raves.
Each chapter focuses on a different person, yet the book is not a
series of short stories. It is tied together over a period of fifty years,
covering diversified events from the Virginian Tech massacre to unrest in the
middle East. Although fiction, Rachman manages to date each story and give it
a sense of reality. Alyce Barnett will moderate.
Friday, August 19th: The Glass Room by Simon Mawer is a novel
of architecture, art and love that was long listed for this year‟s Man
Booker Prize for Fiction. The home at the heart of the novel is the opposite of primitive. The architect wishes to “take Man out of the cave
and float him in the air.” His ambition, he announces, is to build a
house of glass. Set in Czechoslovakia, the novel explores peoples‟
hopes and aspirations in a moving read. Mira Sennett will moderate.
