GETTING STARTED AT UMUC
ALLIANCE PROGRAM
TIPS FOR SUCCESS
GET IMPORTANT TRANSFER INFORMATION
APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID
You should meet with a UMUC transfer advisor as early as possible
to prepare for the transfer process and take advantage of transfer
scholarship opportunities. You can also attend a UMUC open house
at any regional location and meet with an advisor on the spot!
You can apply for financial aid online at www.fafsa.gov. Be sure to
include the UMUC code—011644—on the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA) form. You must meet the following priority deadlines to make sure your aid will be processed in time for registration:
fall–June 1; spring–November 1; summer–April 1.
TIP
A UMUC representative visits your community college
on a regular basis. To schedule an appointment,
e-mail [email protected].
TIP
Nearly all students qualify for some form of financial
aid, so everyone is encouraged to apply.
APPLY FOR ADMISSION
APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
Applying to UMUC is quick and easy. Just visit www.umuc.edu/admissions
to complete and submit the online application for admission. If you apply
before earning your associate’s degree at an Alliance community college, UMUC’s $50 admission application fee will be waived.
UMUC offers a variety of scholarships, including the Community College
Transfer Scholarship, which is available for Alliance community college
graduates who have earned at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Recipients
may be awarded $3,300 per year for full-time study or $1,650 per year
for part-time study. To learn more, visit www.umuc.edu/ccsp.
TIP
If you have a problem, new student advisors are
available to walk you through the application. Call
800-888-UMUC (8682) or e-mail [email protected].
TIP
You are also encouraged to visit
www.umuc.edu/scholarships, www.fastweb.com,
and www.collegeboard.com for additional scholarship opportunities.
SUBMIT OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS
Be sure to send official, sealed copies of all transcripts to the
Registrar’s Office once you apply. This includes transcripts from your
community college and any other colleges and universities you may
have attended, military transcripts or training records, and AP test
scores. Once all official transcripts have been received by UMUC,
they will be reviewed to determine your transfer credit.
TIP
An official evaluation of transfer credits for your
selected degree program will be available for you to
see on the MyUMUC student portal.
