SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
A Faithful Witness
Tomorrow, when we rise, we will
still mourn, but not as a people
who have no hope. We have
hope in the Resurrection. We
have hope in Eternal Life. We
also have hope for this world. In
spite of all the signs to the
contrary, ultimately, love wins
the day. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. Morgan
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ
his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose
from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father
Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the
Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
A Morning Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer
Dr. Morgan
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Building Trivia: How Many Bricks?
So how many bricks does it take
to build the new building?
112,500 individual bricks create
the façade of the new building.
What they hold is priceless. They
hold the future youth space for
our children, and they hold
classrooms for our seniors. They
hold accessibility for people with
physical needs, and they hold a
gathering area where we will
fellowship together. Thank you
for your support of the building
program. We are on schedule,
under budget, and your giving

has been ahead of schedule. As
we look toward Phase 2 of the building program, we are beginning to imagine if the
church can be debt free in 2020. Of course it depends on your willingness to give at the
same level as you did in the first three years. Thanks be to God for provision through your
great generosity.
Coming this Fall:
Disciple Bible Study!
Oak Grove recently recognized 43 graduates of Disciple Bible Study and Christian Believer
– 2 long-term small group studies. If you are looking for an in-depth Bible study and small
group experience, you may be one of the next graduates of Disciple! In Disciple 1, you will
study 70% of the Bible. In Disciple 2, 3, and 4, you will study a particular section of the
Bible. Classes run from mid-August through May. For more information, please contact
Rev. Susan Allen Grady ([email protected], 404-636-7558 ext. 212).
Make a Meal This Summer!
Do you enjoy the feeling of a warm home-cooked
meal? Would you like to share that feeling with
others? This summer, the Nurture Committee is
looking for volunteers to cook meals for church
members in times of illness or grief. Sign up to take
a meal this summer based on your schedule. For
more information, please contact Hollie Meglio
(404-557-8673 or [email protected]) or sign up

On Tuesday, July 12, Amy and Dan
Morgan invite you to join them at
Salem Camp Meeting in Covington,
Georgia. We will meet at the church
at 9:30 a.m. and travel to the
campground to enjoy worship and
lunch at the Salem Hotel. Camp
Meeting worship is a relaxed, revival
style worship with plenty of singing
and great preaching. The preacher
for the day will be one of Glenn’s
best friends, Dr. Bill Burch, who is
the Senior Pastor at First United
Methodist Church of Lawrenceville.
The only cost is $10 for a delicious,
southern cooked meal served
family style. To make a reservation
call Sandee in the church office
(404-636-7558).
If you cannot make the July 12
event, we invite you to one of the
other worship services. Worship is
held each day, July 9 – 15, at 10:45
a.m. and 7:45 p.m. For more

like to donate. Please bring your extra fresh
vegetables to the Oak Grove kitchen and place

Building Consecration
October 16, 2016
On October 16, 2016, Oak Grove will celebrate 180 years of ministry, 55 years of barbecue,
and will consecrate our new building. We will have one service that day at 10:30 a.m. in the
sanctuary. Please mark your calendars and make plans to be a part of the celebration.
Plan now to participate in the January
mission trip to Honduras. Participants will
do light construction and a day of VBS
activities. Dates for the trip are January 21
– 28, 2017. The cost will be approximately
$1600 per person. Begin now by saving the
dates, saving for the cost, and praying about
your involvement with this great mission!
An organizational meeting will be held in
mid-August. For more information contact
Amy Morgan ([email protected] or
404-636-7558, ext. 210).
Panera Surplus Bread
Each Wednesday night our Oak Grove
Refugee Ministry picks up all the unsold
breads (usually valuing over $300) from
Briarcliff Panera Breads. On Thursday
morning this bread is delivered to New
American Pathways, for their refugee
clients. Great bread, great food, and a
welcomed addition to their food sources.
We are blessed to have Panera Breads
partnering with us in this ministry. Next
time you are eating/buying there, tell
them how much Oak Grove appreciates
their support.

classrooms and Fellowship Hall. This wi-fi
network is available throughout the
building, except the sanctuary. For
electronic security, there is a separate,
secure network for church computers.
Once completed, the new building will
also have wi-fi coverage.

OAK GROVE NEWS

Volunteer
This year’s summer mission emphasis
focuses on partnering with our
newest United Methodist Church,
The Nett. Taken from the second half
of the word “Gwinnett,” The Nett
Church seeks to cast a wide “nett” in
the Lilburn area to form a multi-ethnic, mission-centered congregation.
Oak Grove has already assisted with
two Sunday morning worship days,
and now we want to dig deeper in
our support by helping The Nett
Church as they reach out to their
community. Check out the opportunities below to get involved.
Carnival Event (in a local trailer park)
• Goal: Build relationships and give children a memorable summer experience
• Sunday, July 31
• 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. (Meet at Oak Grove at 8:30 a.m.)
• 20 adult volunteers, plus their families who are welcome to join in the fun!)
Register to volunteer on the Oak Grove website (www.ogumc.org).
EXTRA
Kids Experienced
Ancient Egypt at VBS!
Oak Grove was transformed into ancient
Egypt during VBS week thanks to our crafty
decorations crew! Our 3oo campers learned
the stories of Joseph each day…from his
prison cell to the palace. Kids made fun
crafts in the Egyptian bazaar, wrapped each
other mummy style, laughed, played, sang,
and danced Egyptian style. What a week of
fun it was!
Give:
Oak Grove will assist this new church by funding these two outreach events. The goal
for our summer fundraising is $5000. You may give by check with “Nett” in the
memo line, online (www.ogumc.org) or by text-to-give using key word “Nett”.
Pray:
Pray for these mission events and for the Nett Church in their mission to the community.
Smart Lunch, Smart Kid, through the dedication of thousands of volunteers and donors,
ensures that children are fed in the summer and
on school breaks. We are still looking for
volunteers to sign up for July.
You can make sandwiches
to feed hungry kids
this summer!
On the 6 days in July listed below, we will meet
in Fellowship Hall at 10:30 a.m. to enjoy
fellowship, coffee, and pastries, then we will
assemble 600 sack lunches.
Assembly Dates in July
• July 12-13 • July 19-20
• July 27-28 (Wed. and Thurs. this week only.)
To sign up to assemble lunches, choose from
the dates above, and sign up via the church
website (www.ogumc.org). You may also sign up by calling Sandee Edmondson in the
church office (404-636-7558) M-F between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Smart Lunch, Smart Kid is a great service opportunity for individuals, families with
children, and other groups.
If you would like to make a monetary contribution toward food supplies, please make
your check payable to Oak Grove with Smart Lunch in the “memo” line, give online
(www.ogumc.org), or through text-to-give.
We had an overwhelming response to our
mission projects, collecting items for Villa
International, United Methodist Children’s
Home, Montclair Elementary School,
Toco Hills Community Alliance, and
Caring for Clarkston. The 5th graders
made 500 lunches for the Smart Lunch
Smart Kid project and we collected $575
that will also go to our VBS missions...Just
AMAZING!
More than 150 youth and adults volunteered their time to coordinate, guide,
teach, play, sing, and love our kids each day.
We received so much support through
supplies, snacks, and monetary donations;
you are an amazing church family and we
are grateful! Very special thanks go to our
VBS Directors: Claire Metzloff and Karen
Dillard for Morning Session and Michelle
Hardy for the Afternoon Session – well
done! I’m also grateful to the Children’s
Ministry staff (Tricia and Stephanie) for
their hard work and support.
Thank you! –Kim Cody
